A couple things about the coolant: - Always use distilled or deionized water and never tap water. The minerals will develop deposits in the water jackets and potentially clog flow. Tap water can also accelerate electrolysis. - Use extended life coolant whenever possible. Lesser coolants may have silicates in them which are abrasive to ceramic water pump seals and cause premature failure. - Any more than a 70/30 mix will begin to have a reverse effect on the cooling abilities of the coolant, and can cause sludge or even jelly to form.

couple extra tips, make sure the old ring off the old oil filter is off the block of the engine before fitting the new filter and also dip your finger in some new oil and smear it over the o-ring around the new filter before installment, it stops the rare chance of the o-ring sticking slightly and failing to ensure a complete seal, resulting in leaks.

A fellow Integra owner... I have a LS as a daily, and a LS/V as a toy :) An engine that's running too cold has a negative effect over a period of time - one of which is potential wear and corrosion from excess combustion acids on your engine... as well as possible excess fuel/water into your oil. Your car can also be adding excessive fuel (which also reduces your fuel economy) which will not be spent until hitting your catalytic converter - damaging the catalyst inside it.
@TheNerdJD11 жыл бұрын
Agreed. The only time chem-flushes are risk free is when they're used on a moderately maintained engine that have been regularly serviced. Even then, with age... I'd still recommend doing synthetic oil "flush" cycles every third oil change :D

Great Video! To make a more complete Power steering fluid change, perhaps remove the return line as it enters the reservoir, run a clear plastic hose from this return line to an open pan. Seal off the reservoir return entry port. Lift up car, place on jackstands. Have someone start car, fill & keep filling the reservoir. Run car till return fluid into pan is clean.
@samurphy11 жыл бұрын
If you can get access to the return line on the PS fluid reservoir, you can detach it and put it into a waste jug, then have someone else turn on the car and turn the wheels back and forth. It will pump the fluid into the waste jug, and you can refill the reservoir with clean as it empties. Be careful not to let the pump run dry.

Little tip about the spark plugs, don't tighten them unless they're completely square in the hole they're going into, the body of spark plugs are made of porcelain(usually white and have a hard plastic-y look and feel to 'em) it can crack very easily and if it does you can't use it anymore. Very cool video, it's good for people to learn about this basic stuff. I saw a youtube video of a service on a car and the engine had all sludgy purple oil, the owner didn't service it for so long, sick.
@paky6613 жыл бұрын
@mightycarmods You forgot to draw attention to the copper washers from the oil plug and gearbox plug. After a few services they thin to much and need to be replaced (yes, i've seen the fact that your washers are not made out of copper, but they should be) Another thing you forgot to mention is removing the water-plug from the block if you want to drain all the coolant inside the engine. It is there and most of the time is hard to access (even harder to open)
@Mr_Potts13 жыл бұрын
@mightycarmods hey guy just one thing when bleeding the radiator you need to made sure you turn the heater on full hot and max fan so that way your coolant can get into your heater core just thought id give ya a heads up only cos you didnt mention it keep up the good work guys
@vwchuch9112 жыл бұрын
If you're talking about the hole on top, don't do it. That's the bell housing, used to check your engine timing. That's also where your clutch is at, pour trans fluid in there and you might ruin the clutch. Your best bet is to fill it from the side plug. All drain and fill holes should be exactly the same (in appearance and size) so nobody gets the wrong bolt out.
@92pathse13 жыл бұрын
Not sure if was mentioned somewhere in the comments... Many cars will not bleed out the air in the cooling system through the radiator cap. Find the highest point in the system and look for a bleed screw. Sometimes it's labeled, sometimes not. Some engines also require priming the water pump by adding coolant to a bleed screw near the pump. The important thing is, do some research before you start.

Only if you live in an area that is known for hard water. Excessive mineral content in tap water is what creates corrosion inside your cooling system. If you can drink tap water straight from the facet, then it's ok for your cooling system. Also if you live in a hot environment (like here in Houston) it's better to have a higher water concentration than coolant. Coolant has a lower boiling point than water.

Handy little tip: The heater hoses run from the block, and behind the thermostat. If you want to flush your cooling system without taking your thermostat out just take one off, put a hose into it, run some water and start your engine. Done.

When you go to put the new oil filter on just dab your finger in the old oil and rub it on the gasket on the top of the oil filter, this will prevent the gasket snapping or breaking when you screw it on.

One thing I like to do when I change my engine oil is to put some new oil into the new filter before screwing the filter back on. This is so that the engine isn't starved of oil when you turn it on for the first time after the oil change (oil goes from the oil pan --> oil filter --> engine). I know you guys couldn't do that with this car because of the orientation of the filter, but if anyone can I recommend it just as an extra measure of car care and protection!
@emir89511 жыл бұрын
no essentially it gets burnt black by heat pressure time and cooling and lubricating parts. so it will always get burnt between oil changes. But if you change it regularly it will let it run more of its life successfully.
@Firebert79TA13 жыл бұрын
Straight water, or even better, straight water with water wetter, is actually better at transferring heat and will help the car run cooler. Anti-freeze or "coolant" lowers the freezing temperature and raises the boiling temperature to help prevent freezing and boiling. It also, as said in the video, can help prevent corrosion a bit.
@juliena480811 жыл бұрын
Even pulling your wheels off and cleaning/re-greasing your brakes can go a long way like keeping braking performance at max, or even prevent pre-mature brake fading and wear. Every 2 months should be fine. One thing i hate about living in Canada is not being able to work on my car in the winter, because of all the snow and the sheer freezing cold temperatures. So when it's summer, I Go Nuts!

For the tranny fluid, what I like to do is take the speedo sensor out because it's on the top of the transmission (instead of on the side where the filler hole is) where I can get to it easily. Then just stick a funnel in and fill 'er up! Might not be the same for every car, but I know with the older Honda manual transmissions (ones mated with like B and D series) are like this.

If you have a turbo fill the filter with oil before installing it, Lube the gasket on the Oil filter and clean the plate where the gasket contacts the engine. Overtightening a filter is a bad idea because the gasket will swell up anyway and makes it difficult to remove later especially in tight areas. Changing the fuel filter if needed/possible is a good Idea while youre at it

@d4rkice12 also when bleeding the system, after you have filled up the radiator, run the the car (heater on depending) til it gets to operating temperature (no higher than half way on the temp gauge in the car usually) or until the radiator fan turns on cus at that point the thermostat has opened and any air bubbles in the engine block can escape via the radiator and then top the coolant up. Duno if this applies to all makes and models but yeh lol. Keep up the good work. You guys are awesome

Not to mention brands but lower priced level fluids tend to become thick and begin to have a sluge consistency which when turned in to a thicker "Paste" it does affect its Performance. Not viscosity but its consistency. using a synthetic full or blend is ok and interchangeable now with conventional and synthetic does not become or make a sluge consistency. Personally I do not use synthetic but f you tow or do hd work I would recommend it for any engine but conventional is just fine.

@Snoopazz1 Side mounted oil filters are a pain, because if you do this, it will spill the oil down the block. the ST162 Celica is notorius for this, if you are not really quick with it. its on a sort of a downwards angle... meaning you cover your block in oil if you dont have the reflexes of a ninja. :P

A battery change is pretty much standard procedure here in Canada. I still find it hard to believe that manufacturers are still sticking in batteries that'll only provide 300CCA, that's barely enough to turn over a V6 in an Accord.

Use a good quality filter, lots of well known brands have crappy valves in them so that if your filter is installed sideways or upside-down the oil can drain out and starve your bearings on starting. I know all this I work in a lube shop. Also Follow the directions on the flushing fluid and don't flush a leaky engine it can make it much worse.

BOV's don't just go off when shifting but yeah they sound cool. Although there are some extremely stupid bov's that make a horse noise when releasing air. I like the ones that release a clean sound like what you get when disconnecting something from a hose from an air compressor
@TheNerdJD11 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Flush is definitely a gamble... and the deciding factor will always be the amount of abuse and lack of service done to a vehicle. Sometimes the muck and grime will have patched up a potentially weak spot... and flush can be overly abrasive on those pseudo "bandages". It is more recommended on older engines to have synthetic oil "flushes" more so than chemical flushes because of that... since engine oils do contain detergents to keep everything clean =P
@mtktm13 жыл бұрын
You guys forgot to lube up the o-ring on the oil filter and checking if the o-ring from the old oil filter isn't still stuck on the engine. either could cause it to loose oil and take a dump while driving. lubing the o-ring is so it doesn't bind up and fold on itself as you are tightening it on. and should of mentioned that the filter should only be tightened as tight as you can only by hand.

@dan110024 not really. just so it wont turn anymore, you dont use alot of force. the amount of turning req.d varies between it being a crush washer type or a taper type. taper type dosent need much turning at all.a quick nip is all it needs. washer type, you go until you feel the washer crush.
