Thank you SO SO much for this information, I have suffered with vestibular migraines for a long time and not so much awareness out there. Only recently figured out its causes by hormones. Could you possibly link us with the video with Katie? Thanks a mil

I feel strongly that we should be able to access more treatments like Botox and antibodies without jumping through hoops. Suffering with just half of the 15 days of migraine required a month to access these has a major impact on our quality of life. The government should review this and though I understand it s more about cost than anything else, millions of days off sick could be prevented which in turn would help the economy.

I watched this video based on its title. And was very disappointed. As so often, the word “hormones” is used pretty much purely to discuss “sex” hormones. Totally ignoring the many other hormones and, in particular, thyroid hormones. I am absolutely certain that the main cause of migraines for me nowadays is when my thyroid hormones are wrong. That is, when my dose (or make) of levothyroxine has changed or needs to be adjusted, I can get a series of migraines. Up to every day. I have previously had migraines that I could put down to alcohol or the other constituents of some alcoholic drinks, foods and indeterminate causes. But the thyroid association is strong. I never get migraines except when I am already questioning my levothyroxine dose or make. Months, even years apart. (Mind, I am lucky. Nowadays, as an ancient person, I get painless visual migraines after a bit of prodrome, the visual effects and feeling rather delicate, followed by being washed out. Usually half a day or so of feeling bad.) From personal experience, amitriptyline is intolerable. (Used it for pain relief due to shingles and couldn’t keep taking it.) Propranolol affects thyroid hormones by reducing T4 to T3 conversion. Of course, thyroid will only be an issue in some of us. But it seems very reasonable to request a thyroid function test (hopefully not just TSH but Free T4 and, ideally, Free T3 as well). Unlike almost all the other options, an appropriate dose of thyroid hormones, can be free of side effects and improve health in many ways.

Prodromes are the symptoms one experiences before a migraine attack, not after. Moreover, migraine is a neurovascular condition, not just vascular
