At least 30 migrants are missing following two shipwrecks over the weekend off the Italian island of Lampedusa - the latest tragedy involving migrant boats crossing to Europe.
In Italy, rescuers helped dozens of people to safety following the disaster, but the bodies of a woman and young child were recovered from the water. The number of migrants trying to make it to Europe has surged over the last year, with many coming from sub-Saharan Africa, making the journey to Libya or Tunisia to try to cross the Mediterranean in extremely dangerous conditions, often in overcrowded boats.
According to the UN, more than one hundred thousand migrants have made the dangerous journey across the Mediterranean this year. More than 2,000 have died or gone missing. The vast majority of migrants who enter the European Union do so having first paid human smugglers. Traffickers are using ever more sophisticated methods to convince people to make the trip.

Illegal immigration is a very complicated issue with no satisfactory solutions really. And some people will always use others for quick financial gains. With climate change already affecting certain areas on top of the existing civil unrest, immigration and human traficking is only going to get worse . I am not worred about NGO's which are concerned with human rights violations. I am more worried about corrupt politicians all over the world who brainwash people instead of focusing on ways to address the issues at hand. While reading or listening to those tear-jerking stories I always keep wondering about one major thing: in central or eastern Europe 2500-7000 euros is not little to pay for one person, not to mention the whole family (where 2+2 gives you 10 000 - 28 000 euros). Many people (if not the majority) here working hard day by day to make ends meet do not have such savings after several years of honest work. I am not against refuguees and legal migration, Canada has taken in 100,000s of thousands of refuguees in the last several years without proper planning and coordinations with cities and local authorities. While there are some refuguees success stories most of them failed to assimilate to the society end up becoming homeless and and gets involve with street crimes which in the end creates conflicts with the local residents. I've personally witnessed it in my neighbourhood alone. It has been messy and without proper planning it will only become strain to social services, health care, and local residents public safety.

Yes its sad but we do not have the capacity to take in more, the ones we have taken are already starting to create problems around Europe. If everyone coming would be high educated and fluently speak the country's language then it would be possible to take more but the reality is that the systems we have to deal with em can't handle the amount coming in so it creates problems. Small towns over here that took in only a few has had pretty good success but the larger cities just get groups that create their own culture within our culture even looking down at our culture demanding that we should adapt to their culture. Since I was a child I thought it was supposed to be "you take the culture according to where you go" so before there's a better system to handle it we really need to reduce the amounts we take so that those that are here already get a better chance to integrate. I know its nice to be kind to everyone but you that think that we can take more, will you be the one paying for the damage it causes and for all that never gets out of the system that should only be there to integrate. It only creates negativity and violence when you try to give more than you can give.

Seem small but then take transport, processing, transport, distribution and selling(all those want some profit on the way to the customer). So if everyone takes 1 euro then the price for the customer would be 7-10 euros depending on how many stages). Then add the costs and we are probably talking about 20 Euros. In my town they take 30 Euros per kg and that's already almost 10% of my monthly food budget just for some damn nuts so I don't buy em.

I admit that I do not include Russia in what I said about climate in northern Europe, as indeed winter in Russia can be too cold at times. But where would you prefer to spend your winter? In Germany with snow and nice cold outside? Or in Greece where I live, with daily maximum temperatures of 7-15oC, snow twice a year for two days a time, and a lot of rain. I believe that what you propose is illegal due to the Geneva Convention, so to do it, you first need to repeal the GC. But the GC is an international treaty, so I am not sure how you can do that. I suppose you would need a new international treaty. But I do not see any parties, in any wealthy country of the global north offering to negotiate an amendment of the GC with the rest of the signatories. Why is that? Could it be because not a single country in the global north has a democracy? I personally believe so.

Accessing to legal immigration procedures requires you to comply to certain "standards" like having regular documents, having health check for potential diseases that could be spread, not having criminal records or charges. Illegal migration got rid of all this, because as soon as you get in, there is no legal procedure that can have you deported back. Being able to pay thousand of € makes you rich in Africa, and all these money are stolen from the local economy and given away to traffickers. Illegal migration is actually hurting the countries they travel from and makes impossible to open a legal procedure for immigration in Europe as the mass o human being already entering is to high to leave space for anybody else, at least in Italy Greece, and Spain. It's up to Germany and Northern Europe countries to open these legal routes to deprive these human traffickers of their ill gained profits

The money is not stolen from African countries as all the diaspora send remittances back to their home countries. India's GDP is up 4 or 5% by remittances from Indians abroad. The same is true of Africa and Eritrea changes their citizens in European countries using fear and repression.

Just because I can’t afford something or am hesitant about applying for it, doesn’t mean I don’t have a legal option. It’s actually the opposite for me - I do have a legal option, which I don’t use because of my own personal reasons. In terms of human rights its a shame that civilians cannot flee the war zone and legally find and get accepted in other safe countries. But sometimes when the “big players” want make it happen really fast, example the case with Ukraine (which of course is good). There is even a dedicate page on EU official website on how to flee Ukraine and seek shelter in EU. Even if they became wealthier than Germany, they would still have to live under horrible climatic conditions of 35oC for 5 months a year in a row, whereas northern Europe will still have awesome cool 18-22oC during the summer. If they see no hope or career in their home country but are willing to work during harvest season then why not open for a 3 month visa application? (If i need to apply for visa & work permit before heading to certain countries then so should they).
