“Trying to get to the safety of Europe” Last time I checked. Croatia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Cyprus, Greece, and Hungary *are* not only European, but in the EU. What you are disingenuously omitting is “….in the richer nations of Europe.” These are economic migrants and adventure seekers, and are legal ways to attempt to enter EU nations. Use them, or get deported. It’s very simple. Sweden and Germany and the Netherlands and France and the UK etc. don’t owe you a job or an opportunity.

Migrants avoid Bulgaria. At the start of the crisis, some took that route only to be set up in old barracks with cots, a barebones bathroom, a wood stove for heat and meals delivered three times a day. They described it as "worse than Syria". Word got out, and now virtually nobody takes that route.

@Future Caucasian politician Immigration is _necessary_ for most European countries. Life is good, so there are low birthrates and long, healthy lives. That means there are less and less people in the workforce who can provide for the increasing amount of retired elderly. Raising the age of retirement only does so much, you _need_ young people from elsewhere to increase the workforce. And those people won't come from other European countries. Also, nation states are a very recent thing, and cultures have been changing for literal thousands of years, both by themselves and through immigration. There _is_ no "DNA", just shifting flux. @@paulallen579 Most of them aren't refugees by the time they are on EU border. Morocco, Algeria and particularly Turkey aren't some third-world countries, but normal states with modern administration, roads, healthcare and internet. They provide safety, though not prosperity. The truth is that no matter how many people we accept we don't "solve world poverty" or however you wanna put it. For ever 1M people we accept another 10M are born into poverty. The money spent to help a single migrant in Sweden or Austria could help 4 migrants in Syria or the Sahel. Contrary to popular belief, they are more productive at home, where they have connections and understand the culture and language. Help them build their homes where they live instead of patronising them into dropping everything and coming here. Those that survive the journey are often the fittest and most needed back home.
@paulallen579

@@ten_tego_teges They're investigated to make sure they are refugees when they get to the EU. Turkey, Morocoo, Lebanon, and the other countries might not be anywhere near as poor as the countries the refugees are fleeing from but they're much poorer than the EU. That was my point, simply because of geography these countries have to pitch in more to help than the richest economic bloc in the world. I'm not suggesting we solve world poverty through accepting refugees either. And nobody is arguing that they have more connections and resources outside of their home countries, because of war and/or persecution they can't remain there anymore. And I agree that the most physically fit and resource rich refugees are generally the ones that manage to make the journey. I wish the EU didn't make it impossible for refugees to fly into it because by and large it's a system that favors young men and leaves women and children in horrible conditions.

Greek person here. Correct me if I am wrong but I am fairly certain that you are using the terms "migrants" and "assylum seekers" interchangeably. By definition assylum seekers are those who have no option, migrants do have an option (though admitedly not a good one). In any case legaly countries are only supposed to accept assylum seekers, not migrants. I think you should have made that distinction in your intro as one of the primary problems is separating the real assylum seekers from the migrants posing as such.
@olbiomoiros
@olbiomoiros 3 жыл бұрын
No. asylum seekers are the migrants that seek for asylum but haven’t been granted one. Otherwise they’d have asylum status and legally recognised as a refugee (this depends on a number of criteria, most importantly country of origin and the conditions under which the migrant seeks asylum, and any active conflicts in the country- they vary by country) . Migrants, as you said it, are those willingly leaving their country to go to another one.

they're running away because the conflicts destroyed the ones that were there already there, so to do what you propose, you would need to end the conflict, and as an outsider, Europe can only achieve that by colonizing them, but if that were to ever happen (again), then it would not be for the noble reasons you listed, so Europe's best soltion is to either close their borders, or allow asylum to a manageable amount of refugees, so that they can be safely assimilated into the larger society without having to trash the streets.

After Arab Revolt they wanted full democracy in their country without bloodshed and so on. Regime bombed them and killed their children. Backslash happened and created these Islamic Groups which have members that come from EU who are far right. So moderate people with infused others lets say 1/100 ratio started leaving country on mass food/warzone/electricity. So only moderate country they saw was EU. Arabs didnt take them at all but their brothers. Its like Denmark not accepting refugees from Sweden. EU is scared of %1 and these %1 gain media attention. But EU could solve Syrian Issue with DIplomacy. Still people are whinning about refugees. Why dont governments take this matter on hand and pressure Syrian Government to accept their people back and give human rights and equal rights? There is no such international rule. UN human rights says that you are allowed to claim asylum in any country you are able to reach. The first EU Dublin regulation was written in 1990 and technically puts the burden on the first country of entry to deal with asylum seekers. The EU was much smaller and "refugees" came from eastern Europe, the Balkans as well as from Africa so the burden was more equally distributed. Nowdays it is basically suspended, because it would put unfairly the burden only on Spain, Italy, Malta and Greace to deal with the issue.

I don't think this is the rule, although I see it on the internet all the time. But I never really understood this rule especially in the context of Europe, it just puts a massive burden on less developed southern countries for no reason other than geographical location which is pretty arbitrary. The EU as a whole would be much better served with an allocation of refugees according to the development or economic capability of a nation to respond. The unfair allocation of refugees has led to, in my opinion more xenophobic political leaders gaining traction and very questionable responses from certain nations, e.g Hungary. Although on Hungary, I think Hungary has a lot of problems with an authoritarian like obran in power The best response in my opinion, is a unified, equitable one. Rather than picking any legislation that points responsibility as far away from your nation as possible in a free for all that only leads to injustice to poorer European nations and towards refugees.

If no one will solve the issues in the countries these migrants are coming from, many many more migrants will come to Europe. Many countries simply have no space for them or the capacity to assure their safety while being on-route to Europe. The best thing for people from these countries is that they won't have to flee, since that itself is quite dangerous. Furthermore, cultures from both the Middle East and Africa are very different from many European countries' cultures. Especially in regards to the role of women and lGBTQ+ rights, Africans and Arabs are not seen as those who are in favour of rights for these people. Many more migrants approaching Europe is seen as a threat to Europe's liberal identity, which thus needs protection.

There's no reason a person fearing for their life needs to travel from, say, Syria, through Turkey, through the Balkan into countries like Germany, Switzerland, France or the UK. There's plenty safe countries in-between. As such, were only "helping" those who can afford the exorbitant prices for smugglers in the first place, often completely bankrupting the rest of their family to do so. And what can we offer them here? A bit of monthly money for food and necessities, barely enough to live on, while some grow increasingly disgruntled at the "preferential" treatment for migrants while the are local people in need who could use help but "receive none because we're too busy throwing our money at Africa".

Are those invaded territories you are saying Ceuta and Melilla?! Well, they were African... a few hundred years ago. Most people living there now are 100% Europeans and they don't want to live in a country which is 6 times poorer than Ceuta or Melilla (or 10 times poorer than Spain). Ah, and Ceuta was conquered by the Portuguese, so Spain actually didn't invade this city on the first place. Talking about the Portuguese, I'm not sure you know that but did you know that most cities in Morocco were developed and created by the Portuguese, such as Mazagon, Casablanca or Tangier? In fact, the Portuguese lost in the battle of Alcacer-Quibir, trying to invade a major part of today's Northern Morocco, but a few years later the Iberian Union military did the same and conquered that territory, in a very unexpected way for the Moroccans. In those years, Portugal and Spain were essencialy the same kingdom because King Sebastian died in the same battle that Portugal lost. Interesting, isn't it?

@LINA EL OUADAA It’s not bad to love and be proud of one’s country. But distorting facts, history or lacking critical thinking is something else. You cannot compare chic quarters of Casablanca, Rabat and Rabat are a small exception, but the exception in your country with the Canary Island or Andalucia, which are the the among the poorest regions of Spain. Even these like any country, including 3rd world, have their chic quarters, but that is not the default. That is why comparisons are base don averages. As Diogo Rodrigues pointed out: the economic diferences even between Ceuta and its hinterland Fneq; Marina Smir … is of an order of magnitude. In fact it has the sad title of the most imbalanced economic frontier in the world, followed by the US-MX border. The Iberian península was conquered on behalf of the syrian Umayyad dinasty, who after being overthrown in the Caliphate by the Abbasids, made of Al Aldalus their strongpoint, first as Independent Emirate and later Caliphate, after the fall of Bagdad. Succeeded by the Taifa (=Petty) Kingdoms, quarelling in changing alliances between and against cristians and muslims and viceversa. King Mutamid Abbad of Seville had the same bad idea that had brought Tarik and his boss Muza to Spain in support one of the visigoth factions. In this case he asked Yusuf of the Almoravids (AlMurabitun) to help him, despite being advised against it by his son to which he +/- responded: “I have no desire to be branded by my descendants as the man who delivered al-Andalus to the infidels and have my name cursed in every Muslim pulpit.” set foot on Al Andalus. In a self-fulfilling prophecy, the poet/king was deposed of his kingdom and with his wife and youngest daughter sent to a bitter exile in Aghmat, near Marrakesh; where all three are buried. The Almoravids (Almurabitun) and their successors Almohads (AlMuwahidun) would remain little more than a century (of the aprox 8 centuries of islamic presence) in which Yusuf and and son would govern the large joint kingdom alternatively from Seville and Marrakech in a dual capital system which reminds of the Rome/Constantinople Tetrarchy scheme. The minarets of Seville and Marrakech are practically twins, erected during the same timeframe and by the same architects. Their puritanism and religious zeal clashed with the metropolitan sophistication of the local elites, who saw them as desert barbarians … as depicted in the beginning of El Cid film when Yusuf reproaches the Taifa petty kings their pleasure loving, scientific and artistic lifestyle instead of devoting these resources to the war effort. I know your country well and enjoy it; but claiming that: THE MEDINA OF TANGIER THAT IS FULL OF MOROCCAN ARCHITECTURE IS WAY MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN THE SPANISH AND PORTUGESE MONUMENTS! is a claim too far fetched!! Even in islamic art: Cordoba (Mosque and palatine city of Madinat al-Zahra), Granada (Alhambra), Seville and Toledo just to mention the better known, can boast world class art and monuments reckoned internationally. By the way Yusuf and his successors took art spoilage from Madinat; specially columns and chapitels, which were expensive. Many are embedded in Marrakech monuments. Besides a cost issue, the intrinsec artistic value of the same, the other reason was to seek a legitimacy with the Umayyads … the same reasons used in Europe by the barbarian Kingdoms in incorporating Roman art and customs in a seek of legitimacy (eg Charlemagne, Holy “Roman Emperor”)

I love how you mentioned the French beaches being under surveillance, and that people probably shouldn’t go there sunbathing 😂 But the situation itself is never going to be the solution - Why should countries just allow people from other countries reside in a country, without even knowing who they are, and integration into the society being CRAP - Not learning to speak the language, or try to integrate into the community they live in, instead making the citizens of said countries seem like animals, labeling us as ‘evil’. If you do get to live in the country legally, be freaking appreciative that the country has accepted you, instead of trying to push your beliefs and your way of living on the society, saying that our traditions and way of life is wrong. That’s not how it works - If you come and live in another country, you ADAPT, you don’t try to change said country. I’m not being ‘evil’, harsh, or cruel, I’m just stating facts, and saying it like it is - Many people think it, just no one wants to point it out.

Same thing with normal ferries, they’re also off limits to refugees.
