I have a friend who used to play with his brother. My friend played the Patriarch. He made all decisions on building, recruiting, diplomacy, finance... everything. And his brother played the General. He fought every skirmish, battle, and siege. The loved it! Their favorite campaign was as the Carthaginians... within two generations they were overrun by Rome, Numidia, and the Spanish. All they had was the Balearic Islands and Carthage... With stacks of Scipiones closing in, the Patriarch decided to load up his remaining troops and escape by sea. The Carthaginian refugees made it to Britannia where the General conquered Londinium. Guiding their newly exiled Carthaginian Republic (far from Roman power), they defeated the northern and western barbarians. Ultimately, they conquered Rome without having any African or Mediterranean island possessions.

hey, great idea, even thiugh obvious still never occurred to me in years :) anyway, i wanted to ask what's your oppinion on scorched earth tactics in our original settlements and/or on leacing some troops behind to hold our labd a bit longer? maybe even one family member to govern the capital and then bring the rest of the troops to newly established colony? i know it sounds a bit cheesy but still worth considering. planning to migrate to constantinople as england in ss type mod for m2. greek britain or united kingdom of greek states, you know.
@BlueMatona4 жыл бұрын
Ok so for scorched earth, I don't really find it to be worth it. If you're playing a migration campaign and moving far away, the faction that takes your original settlements likely won't be an enemy until late game anyways. Also, cities start with such low building levels that it's just not a significant hinderance to demolish them. As for leaving an army behind, it's not the worst call by any means. I would definitely recommend bringing all generals with you on the migration though, since sending ships back to pick up a general that you left behind can take a ton of turns and just isnt worth it. In a situation like in this video with the Britons, leaving an army behind is not necessary since no other factions will be able to take the provinces quickly before you reestablish yourself somewhere else. If you're playing as a faction with nearby enemies at the start, leaving a few troops back to at least defend one city is probably a smart call to buy your migration a few extra turns.
@EasyGameEh4 жыл бұрын
@@BlueMatona i mean demolishing to get some money back. in stainless steel in late campaign cities are quite developed so it is worth it money wise. anyway i failed at it already. at turn 11 i was in the middle of the sea still, already lost all my settlements but 1 and got sieged by scotts (i'm playing with the most aggressive ai) so i had to jump ship and settle to benghasi.

If you have M2TW then the first crusade, which is mostly to Cairo can give a paid for fast movement point opportunity for a faction migration, to escape the Pope's pacifist tendencies against fellow catholics and then get a head start on other's in later crusades. In that game, a migration strategy doesn't have the same penalties and you're very likely to hang on to the original base for a good while.

i'm sorta doing this migration thing with the carthaginians, but it's not extremely out of the way, and it's a high payoff...but i didn't leave the original place, i just expanded further out. to take on an entirely new theater. after i overtook greece on sicily, i sent a fleet with a small army over and started conquering greece starting with rhodes and crete, meanwhile i had the scipii kicking me in the face so now everything i do is just barely enough to keep a comfortable lead on both the italian and greek fronts - i've taken out the scipii and the spqr, greece is probably limited to turkey, macedon has been wiped out, the brutii have lost their capital and been pushed out of the greek peninsula by me. but i barely cover it and am almost always broke, even with these awesome trade cities. this is much more challenging than the macedonian campaign imo, and more fun with the war elephants. nice that both have good cav and good phalanxes, but i like that carthage gets you high law when you build the temples for sacred band and even more with the police stations, that'll be helpful late game. plus if you can manage for awhile without a barracks in most cities (the long shield cav is pretty solid imo, and the lighter one has an upkeep of only 110 and way better and more useful than town watch), just by building the 25% law temple you get to make the sacred band - those are the two best benefits of any of the carthaginian temples imo. so you can skip barracks at most cities and just bring soldiers in via ship (i have 3 half stack or more fleets floating around, one in greece, one in the western mediterranean that links with ships from the spanish colony [which has made 2 sacred band that are defending it from its first attack from spain] and greece, and one in italy). the julii are currently sending easily 5+ full stacks down to rome, and i think the brutii are still recoiling from me beating them out of greece and their own capital (i used lots of spies so that i could attack on the same turn and overwhelm the garrison without giving them time to reinforce, then i'd use spearmen or ideally phalanxes to plug the entry points into the city square). i have like 6 sacred band and 4 more phalanx units in rome and a full house of other troops i think including war elephants so i feel pretty fine about it lol. i don't remember which city it was that i took but it was epic, the generals used over a thousand men to wear down my phalanxes, and they used their bodyguards as a final push...and right as the last sacred band gave way, i sent the war elephants rushing in...they killed i forget if it was 4 or 5 roman generals in that exchange lol

I took Germania's lads to the British isles and it was super fun. Basically I developed all those cities (and Tara) and raised an army of Berserkers. My goal was to live like a Viking (because of their appearance), so I sieged the coastal cities and then exterminated the population to get money. I used to raise the taxes and then let the city rebel or be captured, then I repeated the trick. Those raids were really funny because my army was freaking unbeatable.

Arguably, Egypt is the best place to migrate [Poor army quality, extremely rich and populous province so exterminating pop make lots of cash and the Pyramids which remove culture penalty from Egyptian culture].I had one of my best campaign migrating in Egypt as Greece. One other place is Rome. BUT, it is extremely dangerous because of the giant senate army stating next to Rome. If you can leave one peasant unit blocking the giant senate army, siege Rome than try and take it (most likely auto resolve, with your giant stack you’ll win surely.) Then the senate faction will cease to exist and the big senate army will become rebel (I tried it with Greece [Yes an other time] and it was really fun to conquer Italy.)

I've conquered Italy at the start as Carthage by collecting a lot of light troops, that've already been fought in Sicilia and North Africa (Iberians, Libians, Light and Skirmisher Cavalry, 2 Elephatns battalions, and Slingers with Skirmishers and all of them with 3-5 points of experience). I won one of the most interesting and hardest battles in my opinion - I destroyed 1 full stack of senate's army + their medium reinforcements including 4 bodyguard units, I lost 3/5 of my army but I won, btw samnite spearmen mercernaries aint that bad when flanking hastatis/triarii or meeting cavalry charge!

I disagree with not building anything in your beginning settlements. The first and probably only things you should be building are trade buildings: ports, traders, temples of trade, roads, and farms. Don't build anything else. This way, aside from the roads and farms, you can destroy the ports, temples, and traders (arguably the best structures to have anyway), not bleed cash, and arrive at your new country with more money. Then you can sell your or trade old settlements to your former neighbors (or other interested parties who would like a foothold in that area) for even more money or more settlements in or around your intended new home.

I think the point is to change things up from the usual campaign where you usually face the same enemies over and over and over again due to their proximity to your starting location. The point of this strategy is to change things up a little. Though, I'll admit that I really don't see the appeal. After all, you can always test armies in quick battles against each other. And while the AI may be willing to ignore boats. The human player isn't under an obligation to do so. It's why I managed to beat the Scipii to Africa while playing as the Brutii.
