I like to put all the troops on the plaza for the infinite morale. I usually leave an archer unit positioned slightly further away from the main fighting but still on the wall. The moment the attacking troops come down from the wall I quickly rush to retake the gatehouse, so instantly the gatehouse starts shooting at the troops inside along with your archer's. Often by the time they actually get to the plaza well over half their army is destroyed, demolished and absolutely exhausted.

Hey I'm glad you're back! I've just been watching your videos as I've been preparing to cover RTW on my channel and your channel has been a great source of information to help me get caught up 👍 And seeing you come back and start making videos again has been a real treat! Now regarding this topic, this is something that is really interesting to me because unit size greatly effects the gameplay in both STW and MTW (both games that I've covered extensively on my channel). Even without having a population mechanic it's far more preferable to play these games on the default unit size because the unit cost increases and the economy doesn't scale to match and on the largest unit size even basic units will take two turns to train! Almost as important to me as is the playability from the players perspective is also the playability from the A.I.'s perspective. Playing on the default unit size made the A.I. more capable at building armies and teching up because it usually wasn't capable of establishing a formidable economy that's capable of keeping up on the larger units sizes. And now you have me wondering, have you experienced the A.I. as being more capable of providing a challenge or even to recover from a devastating loss on the smaller units sizes in Rome? Have you noticed the A.I. better being able to tech up and reach higher settlement levels on lower unit sizes? I prefer to play slower campaigns that allow the A.I. (to some degree) to build up and have access to more troop variety. I've only played Rome so far on the Huge unit size, I really like being able to manage population easier but if playing on normal unit size provides the A.I. with a bit on an edge then I might consider switching it up. On that note, imma jump into a campaign right now and test this out but I'd still be curious to hear your thoughts on this! Cheers! 🙏

@BlueMatonaАй бұрын
There are 2 ways. First, if you beat a faction (take the last settlement) you unlock that faction in the menu and can play as them in a campaign. Second, you can go into the game code. Please just be careful in the code so you don't accidentally mess up anything else in the game. Here's a good reddit post on how to do that: www.reddit.com/r/totalwar/comments/151cjc/how_do_you_unlock_all_factions_in_rome_total_war/

I spent like 20 minutes trying to plan around elephants in an Egypt campaign during a siege as the seleucids trained two minor elephant units. I figured they would plow through phalanxes like every other heavy cavalry does on very hard, but they just dropped like flies. It was interesting to see.

Yep. In Rome 1 spears absolutely mow down elephant units

Hi, can I ask you something? How do you get more generals? I don't understand how to do it since I have cities without generals/governors
@BlueMatonaАй бұрын
This would be a good video to do, but off the top of my head there are 3 main ways. 1) male children come of age, 2) female children marry, and 3) man of the hour, meaning an army without a general has a great victory in battle. The captain then has a change to be promoted to general

I wonder if there's a relation to spamming peasants in a settlement to the population effect (population lowers). How would it impact taxes for the settlement?
@BlueMatonaАй бұрын
It would definitely lower taxes. Less city population means less taxes in that settlement. Peasants are a large unit size too, so training them specifically vs other military units will decrease population faster

Keeping governors in cities with trade, farming or weaponsmith temples will slowly make them develop traits & gain retinue that increase income too Eg if you have a Hephaestus or Vulcan temple, any governor there for long enough can get the "Expert Miner" trait, a relevant priest, & a Mining engineer, for a maximum of +75% mining income

Why is it Scipii when the plural of Scipio is Scipiones?
@BlueMatonaАй бұрын
I just think the historical accuracy in Rome 1 just wasn't priority. Rather, the devs went for recognizable names
@idontlikerome2744Ай бұрын
"Scipii" being more latin perhaps?
@BlueMatonaАй бұрын
Could be. Honestly, I have no idea lol
@khosrowshahanshahАй бұрын
@@idontlikerome2744 hard to be more Latin than Latin itself. It might've just been a naive developer who thought Latin plurals are formed by adding -i.

I just had a tough battle today to take Carthage as well as the Julia. Knocked out two Carthaginian armies that had elephants and that was very tuff. Then the city siege was pretty easy as there was only a small garrison left. Had a full army and lost a little more than half of it.
@BlueMatonaАй бұрын
Must've been a huge series of battles! I always struggled taking out the elephants as roman factions pre-archers. Once you have archers it's pretty easy with the flaming arrows. I know flaming pigs early game are a good fix for this, but I rarely, if ever, use them

Do the ranged upgrades on archers/velites allow them to kill more models per volley? If so, how much?

Barbarian Invasion changed this by reducing the garrison bonus from peasants. Better to use cheap soldiers in BI than peasants.
