@notshaurmal7 ай бұрын

@Burns4k Жыл бұрын
Thank you especially for measuring the amount of water added during steaming. It's a bit too high for my liking at ~20%. Machines with a steam boiler or a more potent thermoblock will only add 11 to 12%. That, together with the missing OPV, the wrongly implemented preinfusion (pressure release leeches the puck) and the after tax+shipping price (in germany) with questionable warranty make it less interesting for me than I initially thought. But I would surely love to see it improved upon.
@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
I agree with you on that one. The Sage Dual Boiler adds just 20ml per 200ml, in 45 seconds of steaming, so just 10%. That's the best I've seen so far. To be fair though, I steamed for a larger cup here, probably more like 250-275ml, so 40ml would be more like 16%.

Long story short: I ordered a machine. One day laster I realised I live in Europe and the power net is 230V where the machin is currently build for 110V. The Miicoffee support was fast enough to cancel my order before shipment. Here comes the news: Miicoffee didn't left me in this sad situation or forced me to buy a power converter. Actually they said they are working on a 230V EU version which might be ready end of Q1'24 and might be available on Amazon (in the EU).

Im planning on upgrading my setup in april. I was pretty sure about the GCP. But now when i read about the problems with flaking boiler coating, lack of pid and other stuff, i started thinking about the Bambino plus. And now this thing comes out and i really dont know which machine i should buy 🤔 The miicoffee is currently not available in my country but that might change in the future.
@tulenik719 ай бұрын
Bambino is even less controllable than GCP. If you want to use larger variety of beans/roasts, especially light roasts, you really need temperature control (PID) - surprisingly, pressure control can be done by playing with grinding (finer grind = higher flow resistance = higher pressure given the same flow) or with flow control (higher flow with the same grind = higher pressure). This one, any Lelit with PID or Profitec Go. Actually, for steaming this one is the best.

Great video Tom. Hey one thing, it appeared to me that during the pre-infusion test, it looks like the 3-way solenoid and released the pressure during the preinfusion wait time. Is that the case? That would be an odd way to pre-infuse. Seems in order for that tiny bit of preinfuse water to actually penetrate into the puck, you would not want the pressure to be released. Can you clarify if this pressure release is happening during pre-infusion? Thanks!

@VRGalaxy_7628 ай бұрын
Interesting IPD heat test at the end. So, whatever you set it to, it's actually pulling at 6 degrees less than that. So, even if you set it to 100C, it's only really pulling at 94C. Might as well set it to max. Also, just curious, how long does the group head take to heat up each day?

Thanks for the video, very interesting. I want to ask you about the espresso extraction in general. I had understood by baristas that a perfect espresso is normally between 25-30ml in 20-25 seconds, but that’s considering that is only one cup. As you are using a bottomless filter, that does change? The review was good, impressive, and thorough, although I still have reservations on this machine. My concern is the serviceability of the machine. Nice review. Imagine if this machine had bluetooth flow and pressure output that you could log to a phone app (even temp hitting the puck as a plus). Imagine if you could set a maximum pressure as well as maximum flow. Love the SS boiler/thermoblock combo. At the price I prefer this over everything else I have used. My Flair 58x is more expensive when you add the cost of the SEP, frother, and kettle. Anyways, I have that bottomless portafilter and it is fine, but the Flair equivalent looks great with the ability to easily use a dual or single spout at any angle you want. Also, if you want a cup like the cappuccino cup you used, only clear, you can find on Amazon ones made out of dual wall borosilicate glass.

I like the looks of the Grace better. Quality is similar in my estimation. Grace also has machine parts that don't line up, and some sharp edges even. This machine has the benefit of two heating systems, so it's easier and faster to use than the Grace. The Apex is much easier to take apart than the Grace. But I really like that the Grace is made in Italy, because I'm an Italy fan. Espresso seems to be similar for me. Milk steaming is probably better on the Apex, since the Grace has the annoying slow steam cut off when shutting the valve.

I would not rule out the GCP, I bought a new one just the other day for about €260 and I plan to make a Gagguino out of it. In my country the price of the MiiCoffee Apex machine is €600+. So comparing the investment in GCP, both money and time to complete the Gagguino project, to the price of the MiiCoffee, it is still no-brainer for me personally, why I would prefer the Apex machine. However for the mass consumer and/or someone who is not that into DIY projects maybe it would be worth considering the MiiCoffee machine.
@WTFA54 Жыл бұрын
I agree with this still, but the irony to me is that the GCP kinda feels more appropriate as a fun project for someone who either enjoys DIY is already invested in the hobby, rather than as a starter machine for a beginner

The manufacturers commercial name is one of the names you've mentioned ) That one is not a brand but a manufacturer. They make the most luxurious espresso machines in China and it is a huge company. You have a Toyota car and a Ford car; both have cruise control. The Ford has a nice stereo system and is cheaper than the Toyota. Both cars will take you from point A to point B. However, who will survive in the long run? The MiiCoffee looks cheap outside and inside and will not hold up for decades like the Gaggia Classic

I disagree that it’s cheap inside and outside. But I do agree that it won’t be as easy to find replacement parts when you need them, compared to the established Legend that the GCP is.

I had a gaggia classic for about 12 years, now it's unusable, no waterflow at all. It had two big flaws: aluminum boiler that reacts with the water creating a lot of deposits, and a solenoid valve that is used to redirect the water from the boiler to the wand or the brewing group that has tiny almost microscopical water conducts that get clogged pretty quickly with all the debris coming from ... the aluminum boiler. Descaling only make things worse. I've just got the apex, and it has a steel boiler. So far so good.

well, the role of pressure is overstated, from 6 to 12 bars you are OK (and all that can be adjusted by other parameters; there are even peer reviewed articles about this) you can control the pressure by grinding ( = flow resistance) and flow control

Turin (for Espresso Outlet) probably buys them for around $150, rebrands them, and sells them here in the US for the “bargain” price of $500. Nice little profit margin and since they don’t actually make them, zero R&D or manufacturing costs. That being said, if they were $350 I’d probably jump on one, but not for $500 and especially with no track record for long-term reliability.

My important summary: Cons: No adjustable pressure, normal pressure is 15bar is too high, should really be 9bar for most current coffee machines, 2. The finishing quality is not up to standard. 3. Reliability is unproven hence I'll be waiting for more feedback. Pros: well-priced, some considered it cheap, 2. semi-automatic, 3. PID as std, built-in timer, 4. pre-infusion adjusts. I am waiting for the MKII version (next 12mths? This is designed and made in China I strongly suspect the next model would be available within 12mths) and don't mind paying more for adjustable pressure and higher quality finish.
@matz4k Жыл бұрын
The most common way to adjust pressure is by changing the puck. Grind size, volume of grinds or lately even moisture content before tamping. This is how coffee machines work. Changing flow is already a feature.

@TomsCoffeeCorner Жыл бұрын
Yes, that's true. But when I ground coarser to aim for 9 bar, the shot didn't make it to 25 seconds, it was less than 20. I think it has to do with how the water flow saturates the puck, as I have mine set for a gentle flow (5ml/sec). But who knows, that's just a guess.

Impressive specsheet indeed. My problem is, it is chinese. Having experience with HiBrew at this point I wouldn't touch any chinese machine just pay the proper price for a European make (Lelit, Profitec). Vague support, no parts, shady, witholding refund policy comes with these great features. If it works you are good, but if it don't you just have to write the whole machine off. Same with most of the chinese electronics, bikes and bike parts. SOund good, but one better stay away. Maybe in some years, and then still I would opt for an established option.

These machine is really well made quality except the stainless steel is not the same grade comparing to those high end polish italian machine, for the price it is good enough for daily home user most importanly it makes good coffee comparing much higher price of the same small form machine. These machine are made in chinese reputation factory whose are OEM maker for some of the big brand coffee machine. I had use some other cheap and higher price coffee machine $300~$1800 with E61 group head machine. They all perform well even the cheap machine I still using after more than 2years and it still working as from day 1. Of cos these machine will break down one day as electrical components will just like the italian machine as well. The only difference is the high end italian machine uses high quality copper block boiler and stainless steel casing, these are really good thermal block. I had seen many of these high end italian commercial machines lying in warehouse waiting to be repair or rebuild, it will fail if machines are not properly care and maintain.
