Thankyou Mike. Really interesting presentation. Great memories as well. I agree with your view on the Maestro.

The Austin 1800 actually came out much earlier, 1964 I think, the doors carried over to the 1968 Maxi compromising the looks of that car .

The first great British car, the Austin 7, was a license built BMW Dixie.

Looks a superb museum and facility and on the visit list. The Allegro was designed by a clever chap call Harris Mann. His original renderings were great but the design was ruined by bean counters insisting on fitment of certain engines and HV units that dedicated the proportions of the car were ruined. The Morris 1800 was launched in 64 when Ford was still making the Anglia and note the Escort. It was however not the best looking car as you say. The doors turn up all over the place however. There were restyled versions made for the Aussie market that never made it over here. Kimberley and Tasman. Worth a look, still not a good looking car as such but less ungainly that their UK parents. MKIII Capri was never made in the UK was it? Great to see such a place open and imaginative use of an old building. The driving experience is a brilliant idea

The Harris Mann Allegro was quite rakish, looked much sharper than what turned out. Main problem was the height of the engine, gave that bulbous shape. Harris also did the Princess and TR7, all wedge shapes.
