What the (hard-)core audience likes is often of little concern since die hard fans are often hard to please and easy to anger. Since Discovery is trying to get a program on TV making sure that it appeals to a large audience is more important. I for sure also preferred the workshop segments. Having said that, after Ed left the show still seems to be going strong whereas things have been quite quiet on the Ed front, apart from a KZbin show that apparently ended after one episode and he's now seemingly trying to give it another go but tbh I'm not sure that'll go anywhere either.

It's just a tv show where actors/presenters get hired to do whatever it takes to make the show, so it's just busines and not a marriage. Ed and Mike don't own the WD series, they are just hired and have contracts with producers, studio owners, tv stations, writers, etc etc, so it's just a company where people have a job, and as in every job people work with other people, and new people will come and old people will go and that's life, and that's no difference with tv celebs. And what happend is that they needed to cut the cost, because the show was already running for 15 years so the view rates went down and what they wanted is to cut corners on the detailed procedures of the restoration, because it takes a large crew to record the show, and time is money because a crew get payed by the hour, so to save Ed's salary, they needed to cut back on the details so he should have been happy because less work and get payed the same, but no, his ego got hurt, so it was his way or the highway, and the producers just choose for the highway and hired a new Ed and since then the show went on and new episodes are made, so it still works without Ed, and that proves that everyone can be replaced. We had about 6 actors who played james bond, so when anyone can become the new bond, then sure any mechanic can fix cars on WD. When i would be Ed, i would swallow my pride and begg to get back on WD, because shows like that can pay up to 50.000 dollars and even more per episode, so he could retire in notime.

I watched it for educational purposes, and Brewer and his cameos were a tiny part of any knowledge on offer, and the part I could happily have lived without. I'd have rather seen Edd do the buying and selling too, but that's why his channel is a success. Whereas they've already had two new grafters since Edd left, and WD isn't doing so well for itself. The majority by far of the people that watched WD, watched it for the cars and the fixes. Now Edd gets to do it properly and make money for himself with a wider remit and less prohibitions. Was Mike Edd's salesman and go getter? I might be overreacting a bit, but Id thought this before Edd left the series. I think that Mike Brewer is being honest to a point here. I don't think Edd is lazy or wanted specifically to do less work. I think the extended work schedule combined with a desire from the network / producers to have less and less technical in the show, more and more "product placement" visits to companies that make and sell parts, and so on. Remember, season 13 was the first season with Disocvery networks at the helm and not Attaboy Productions. So it left Edd with as much work time to do, less actually to do on the shows, and much more a show about bolting on the parts that Mike sourced. So much in the last couple of years that Edd was there changed, from production company to the flow of the show. Gone was the searching the weekly inkies for a car, the purchases were pre-made, the sales at the end were pre-made, and a lot more time spent on companies willing to either pay for space or make their products available for free / reduced rate to the production. The choices of cars got higher end, they needed a lot less TLC and much more detailing and bolting on of shiny bits. I am sure for Edd it was turning into a waste of time, he is at heart a mechanic and a worker, he wants to be doing stuff. Having to work the same amount if not more on the production but actually to be accomplishing less was probably not where he wanted to go. The change of management, direction, and likely a certain loss of power make it not something Edd needed to be part of anymore. Mike's made himself a good life off it and good on him, but I have more respect for Edd getting out before it got silly.
@mikeyb46103 жыл бұрын
I agree 100% with your assessment of the show & it’s change of direction which ultimately led to Ed leaving .... I’d also add that Mike’s ‘interference’ segments where he would fix the interiors of the vehicles made the show look cheap ....this guy had presented himself as the ‘Wheeler Dealer’ who chased down bargain purchases all over the world for over 12 years suddenly became an expert in Upholstery, Cockpit Fitting & Dashboard Instillation overnight rendering Ed both redundant AND effectively surplus to requirement .... I believe Mike had a lot more to do with Ed’s departure than he would care to admit ...unintentionally perhaps but nonetheless he knew the Ed WAS the show .... n yes perhaps even bigger than the show ....

I don't even dislike Ant really. He's a good mechanic and likeable guy too imo. It's more my continuing dislike of Mike that keeps me from watching.

Some big claims from Brewer, claiming Edd didn't want to work hard and that he thought he was bigger than the show. For those who follow Edd they know that it's nonsense.
@PS563 жыл бұрын
It saddens how Mike always puts down Edd, with comments like “he thought he was bigger than the show and he could leave and the show would die”, but Edd has always said that the show was changing and was moving away from the mechanical side (which is the only reason I watched) to being about the hunt for a vehicle and the production team wanted to cut corners, which he thought would be unsafe, it shows the true character of Mike, that rather than say “Edd wanted the show to go in a different direction” and leave it at that, he says “Edd thought if he left the show would die”, Mike really should be disgusted in himself for treating as he puts it “my best friend” like that, as for the show, I liked the old format, doing up the cars was the show for me, I have nothing against Ant the new mechanic, but I will never watch Wheeler Dealers again and I wish Edd China the great of luck in everything he does in the future.

The show was about the work shop, the other segments were interesting but the meat & potatoes were always in the mechanics. I’m sure Ant is good but the show suffered a blow when Ed was replaced, as fans of the show know, Ed’s moaning & Mike’s cajoling were an essential part of the dynamic. I hope they make peace, it would be a shame not to see the guys become mates again, life’s too short to waste on falling out.

at last,common sense,amongst all these hysterical comments.

I totally agree, i think most watched for the transformation of the vehicle by Edd..

That hokey messing when Edd pretended to moan all the time was just part of the act. It would be interesting to see what members of the crew have to say about the issue.
@dannycampbell62233 жыл бұрын
@@casinodelonge Exactly, I always felt for Mike as he cajoled his mate into taking on a major piece of work, knowing Edd couldn’t wait to get it taken apart. I wish Mike would have kept schtum about any personal issues and had the good grace to acknowledge that Edd (apart from being brilliant) is a grown man and makes his own decisions, leaving the door open for a renewed friendship. I’ve seen another video where Mike is less than polite about Edd and yet Edd has been civil throughout this sad affair, even asking trolls to leave Mike & family alone. Oh well, we have 12 seasons to remind us of what a car show can be.

I'm sure ed loved being stuck in the workshop for 12 hours a day while Mike took care of all the hard work...

The reason Edd left was because they wanted him to cut corners on his amazing mechanical skills and knowledge and experience, and he refused which is amazing as THAT in it's self is a dangerous situation to be in. That's like a mechanic only putting half your brake's back together on you racing car!!!!!
@georgestyer21532 жыл бұрын
Well said Ivan....There were two people...One Edd to do it and Mike to sell it but you cant derate the brains behind this....Edd would fit in anywhere, Mike on a forecourt with the spiel

Right Ed , you knock your pan in for 17 hours a day putting together the cars and I’ll piss about talking to the camera
@seancaulfield99783 жыл бұрын
Mike didn't even sell the cars, most of the "customers" were crew members..... Imagine 17 hours a day for 6 days a week and they try and give you less screen time to give Mike more..... "OLD ARRT YER HAND"

MYEVILTWIIN So true,Mike says "Looks like you've not done anything" Ed works his butt off while mike sits in an air con room,aircon car traveling and have fun.Let Mike work on cars and see what it's like.No wonder Mike put on the kilos lol Typical salesman. Mike wants all the glory.

Edd WAS the show. Work shy Mike "finks" he is the star. No, he is simply an irritation.

Edd was the engine behind WD and made the show work. I always saw Brewer as the part of the show the producers could have improved upon. Nice to see Edd now has a weekly show and I wish all the success for him in his new en devour

I expect Mike could open his own wine business with this amount of sour grapes. WD was Edd. Period. But we're now lucky enough to be able to watch Edd doing what we want on his own channel. Bring on the Range Rover!

Ed’s channel is boring and dull. He hardly puts any content out. I’d rather watch Matt Armstrong

This is called a "Character assassination" Mike Brewer is an unaware midrange Narcissist... Other people are just "Objects" to them. The reality is Mike Brewer is a fat used car salesman and needed Edd China FAR more than Edd China needed Mike Brewer.

I used to watch every show, mostly because of Edd. I thought Mike was a joke, just there for laughs. When Edd was forced out I stopped watching. Never mess with what makes you a success.

Mike was just there for laughs. Another case of the side kick thinking he is the star.

The American producers wanted to shorten the scenes, from when Ed was putting things right from sourcing, removal, replacing/servicing & fitting the parts. Ed’s personality & magic is the main attraction, you can get any old used car salesman to do the other bits. Ed is King 👑

WD's new format send the engine, the interior and everything else out to be restored. While we show you how to refurbish the ashtray. It's all about money, nothing more nothing less.
