Will's eyes lite up when you talk about any of the working dogs. I cannot thank all our armed service men, Seals and working dogs for what you have done or do now. I can only surmise is the fact you come across as genuine, you literally care about your guests, you care about the issues, you care about your teams, you care about your girls, your dogs, and your brothers and that authenticity comes across the table, across the Mic, and hits me right in the feels. As for your guest, I could hear his pain. As brave, as strong, as healthy as he is right now, his pain is still right beneath the surface. He's just as vital, heroic, amazing, and important as his dog. I will be sure to pick up this book as soon as I dry my eyes and wipe my nose.

I hope he gets the peace of mind that he needs, too. I liked the interview but I've said this before,I don't think that everyone who served needs to be doing interviews. It is possible to write a book and just let the work speak for itself. There are lots of famous people and public figures who rarely or never give interviews. It doesn't have to be any different for SOME service members. There's a great quote from the painter Drew Struzan(who doesn't do a lot of interviews) that he paints so he doesn't have to talk. I've seen some interviews that Mike and others have done with some veterans and I just think(and I could be alone in this)that some of the guests(who may not be that comfortable in front of a camera and talking in long-form interviews and going back over details of their lives and careers) probably don't need to be doing interviews.

"We got him. No one was killed. We all made it back." That's the holy trinity right there! I've been known to say that "life is so much about: chemistry, relationships and dog psychology". Several of Mike's excellent podcasts have exemplified that, but this one better than any that I remember. With any animal, it IS all predicated on the relationship. A spastic owner = a spastic animal (not only dogs). It's even true with cats ... being able to read their actions and reactions is a huge bonus to situational awareness when I'm gardening with earbuds in. When I tune out, they're my eyes and ears 100%. Mike, I've a question if you've time ... In my work, I was taught tactical breathing over a decade ago by a SEAL I worked with, so it's puzzling to me to hear guys on the teams since then NOT seem to know about it. I assumed that it was taught systematically. Since emotion and thought are inversely related, taking the extra second to see beyond your target requires slowing down the ANS in order to think clearly. The quickest way to slow down the ANS is to slow down the heart rate, and the quickest way to do that is to slow down your breathing. Is this just something that only one guy knew and taught to me? That seems highly unlikely! I validated it with science back then, and have since taught it to hundreds of people to great success over the years. If you've time, I'd really appreciate your take on this; thanks! God bless Will and all that he loves. It was painful to see his struggle; I hope that he knows that his willingness to illustrate that, alone, will help folks with TBI to recognize it. You're still serving Will by sharing your story. Thanks for that, and blessings to your parents for their sacrifices as well ... it's gotta be tough to live your struggle as you live it. No good deed goes unpunished (the definition of sacrifice). Another terrific job, Mike! I really look forward to your podcasts; your humanity, curiosity and honor always shine through.

I think I've been the most impacted by Will and DJ Shipley on Shawn Ryan Show. Insane careers and deployments aside- the balls to consent to and participate in these interviews and lay it all out is an incredible gift to us. How much more can we ask of these men and yet they continue to give and give. These recorded living histories and their honesty about the hard shit too will help and impact generations to come.

For anyone complaining about how hard it was for Will to speak about his experiences, keep in mind that he suffered a TBI and severe PTSD. He flat out admitted that he has struggled recently with depression and hasn’t been well mentally and physically. So instead of criticizing him perhaps take a moment and thank god for men like him. Young men who risked everything to defend this country and our way of life. We owe them all a debt of gratitude.

I absolutely love listening to these interviews. I am a public high school math teacher who has zero clue of what military deployment/life looks like. Our lives couldn’t be more dissimilar. Thank you for sharing a glimpse of your experience, thank you for serving, and thank you for allowing me to sleep at night without a worry in mind.

He is a very quiet person and it shows. It’s a good thing. I don’t pity him, he has been through a lot but he survived it. And he survived getting out of the teams. That’s the hardest thing to survive. God bless you Will

Awesome story... so thankful for committed heroes like Will who made a difference defending America and making a difference in another way afterwards. Every time I hear a vet’s story on one these interviews I am more thankful to be an American than before. I never served and had no idea of what these heroes go through but am learning from these stories. Thank you Mike and thank you Will!

Mike really did an outstanding job keeping this interview going, I know Will has a TBI but he was also very conservative and short on his answers. Still mad respect for the guy for what he’s done for our country, thanks to both of you!

It was actually really beautiful to see how he opened up to you Mike as time went on, in the beginning he was very cautious and his brain obviously was sort of defensive. You did a wonderful job and i really hope the best for him too, honestly tragic thinking about how much he is struggling. Thanks alot Mike you're doing a great job and you're an awesome interviewer!

Will, you are an excellent person. You kept your humanity through this horror of war, and you and Cairo are true heroes. You, son, are the best of us. The best of America, and the best of humanity. Never forget. Ne Oublie, my friend. Thank you for my freedom. I am proud of you.

Struggles to remember a chaotic time plus some brain trauma, also very respectful to not just tell war stories and go past the confidentiality and creed of secrecy. Two professionals sharing stuff with civilians and also protecting team, mission, country. All makes sense. Nice work guys. Thanks Mike.

I have so much respect for these guys, this was an amazing interview!! You can hear the pain in his voice everytime he has to talk about certain things and the fact that he still holds things back and respects the seals so much just shows he is an amazing human.. Thank yall so much for ur service, I push everyday to be a good person simply because i know there are men like this that fought for us and how much they still have to go through.. amazing story!! Thank you guys so much!!!

I am from NYC and watched the towers go down live. I lost several friends and that moment will forever be burned in my mind. I know I speak for most if not all New Yorkers when I say that the day you guys got Bin Laden meant a lot to all of us. It was closure for America and NYC. Thank you!!!
