When he buys the rifle from the black market gun seller, he references sadly his experience in Vietnam, that and other clues to his personality seems to strongly suggest that Mike carries EVERYTHING with him, even years and decades later, especially his son, who he was fully prepared to die for avenging.

I still think he's being a hypocrite here, but in a different way: I think that Mike didn't let the wounds heal over time naturally, but instead he forced himself to feel nothing. That's the only way he knew how to deal with the tragedies in his life. That's why being a hitman comes easy to him. He has nothing to loose in regards to his mental state, since he already turned off his emotions.

I have found what speeds up the process is if you do something so out of character that your mind has to focus on 110 percent. It could be anything like going skydiving even though you are afraid of flying or getting a bikini wax when you are shy or prone to pain or get a colonic. When you finish the task you will notice your mind has kind of skipped the needle on the record and you are no longer as in a groove mentally. I call it shock therapy.

Such a brilliant scene. On one hand this could be viewed as probably Jimmy's last chance to change the path he was on. He was clearly disillusioned, & questioning a lot of his decisions, after that traumatic trip to the desert. But Mike's speech made it clear that Jimmy was already on the "road." He couldn't just walk away from Lalo. And it all goes back to the very first episodes of BCS when Jimmy hooked up with those two skaters to try & con the Kettlemans. Had Jimmy not done that, he never would have met Tuco & Nacho, & Lalo never would have heard about Jimmy. What do we see in the background of this scene? Skaters.

I beLIEVE (someone correct me if I'm wrong), the context is largely Jimmy's PTSD from his prior traumatic experiences in the desert, as well as his anger over the death of Fred. This all put him in a state of personal/moral crisis. Because his involvement with the very forces that created these circumstances has left a stain on his soul (to get rather poetic about it), he is now carrying a pretty unbearable burden.

Except this time, instead of Mike's "our actions have consequences and we live with what we get from them", Jimmy turns it into "there are only good or bad actions, and Kim's actions are bad and will have bad consequences"

After watching the series finale, you can compare this dialogue with the theme of the last chapter: remorse and redemption. Mike says you can never walk out that path, and Chuck in a flashback shows his love telling Jimmy he can change if he wants to. Eventually Jimmy does change; chooses 86 years taking all the guilt he deserves and trying to do the right thing for once. It’s beautiful in fact. Mike never understood he could change, and that is his greatest flaw.

When I watched Breaking Bad I thought Saul was a snake, but I could see a twinge of compassion underneath. This show really humanized him for me. He dug a lot of his holes himself, but he had a conscience. In the end, I guess he had to abandon that conscience in order to survive, and that's the man we saw in Breaking Bad.

Such a good scene! The “here’s what’s gonna happen” is clearly a favourite line of the writers. Jimmy uses it to Chuck whilst waiting to be arrested. Im actually glad that Fred's death is treated like it mattered, if that makes sense. So many other tv shows and movies just gloss over the fact that a villain killed an innocent person or that innocent people died as collateral damage, but this show humanizes him, shows characters in pain over the death of an innocent person, reminds the viewer that this happened and has repercussions.

At 4:05 I love the call back to the Lindholm twins. The whole scene Mike is telling Jimmy about the choices you make and how they lead you to places in life. Jimmy made the choice to use the Lindholm twins with their skateboard/hit by car scam to help him with Kettleman's. However, they instead accidentally scam Tuco's abuelita which then allows Jimmy to get involved with the Salamanca's. Which then slowly allowed Jimmy to get more and more involved with the Cartel which brought him to where he is now. Like Mike said about making small choices which make you go down the road you're on. That "small" choice that Jimmy made in season 1 has led him to the road he's on now. Not sure if anyone already commented on this but I thought that was really cool.

When I lost my two boys, they were the first thing i would think of when waking up, the last thing I would think of when I tried to sleep, and the middle was just a long reply session of their lives. I would still say goodnight to them like they were still here. After having them in my life for so long, just all of a sudden for them to be gone, it's impossible to adjust in any timeframe. I do remember the first morning when I realized I didn't say goodnight to them the night before and I felt so horrible. It's not moving on, it's being able to deal with the pain. I refuse to move on and I make it a point to say their name once a day to remind me what I lost, to remember the pain. To me, forgetting and moving on is like having them die again.

Mike reminds me of my dad. In appearance, voice, demeanor, and stoicism. His first deployment was a few weeks before the fall of Saigon. Only talked about the details during the holidays after a boatload of bourbon. War is inherently hell, but he was thrown on to the losing team near the end of the war, with virtually no experience or understanding of the situation. His only "trigger" was crying, oddly enough. When my mom passed, it confused and enraged me that he never even shed a tear. But now ten years later, I know he was just calm and tough and accepting of the situation. I'd cut off a toe to have one more conversation with the man. And to let him meet his grandchildren . . . I would cut off a whole leg.

This was a throwback to the start of season one when Jimmy was running a scam with the two skateboarders that led him to Tuco and eventually led him to becoming a "friend of the cartel".

Interesting point regarding Fred - Mike here says Fred wasn't in the game, which is largely true. But, it's his interpretation of what "the game" means. Lalo has a different interpretation. Had Fred not broken the rules of his place of work for Mike, Lalo wouldn't have had any reason to talk with him. Had he given the same information to Lalo, he'd be alive. But by deciding to suddenly have a qualm with breaking the rules, to Lalo, that meant he was playing the game. Mike likes to think his rules make him a better person, but, they're not so different than Lalo's. If they were, he wouldn't be in the game.
