I just love how well the pitch of Jons voice and Mikes guitar matches. Wish they had made more tracks together. But grateful for those we got.

As an artist, Mike Oldfield's output is more varied than anyone I can think of. You could play 10 or more different pieces by him and they would sound like they were all from different artists. Truly a musical chamaeleon. His appearance has also changed so many times over the years.
@AlgernonLecuyer Жыл бұрын
You're right, but in the same time there's always an "oldfieldian touch" that identifies Mike without explaining why!

The usual peerless writing and production from Mike Oldfield with superb vocals from Jon Anderson. Mike Oldfield's musical talent never ceases to amaze. I know critically his material in the 80's was never given the recognition it deserved, I think it has taken until now to look back and realize just how outstanding his material was during this time. A few people have commented on the video, it might look a little silly now, but I remember when this came out, hardly anyone used CGI in music videos at this time, and Mike Oldfield released this with a video which was produced, I think, in house. He was one of the very few artists who had a Quantel Video Paintbox. A cripplingly expensive and complex device at the time which was capable of these kinds of effects back then. Now, of course, this can be done on a laptop, but back in the 80's this was truly groundbreaking stuff.

Mike complained that his records were not well marketed, so I suppose that's why I only heard about this song in 2013. And I was such a big fan of his, always scouring the record shops for new releases. You'd think that a single by two big stars like this would have got more publicity.

A compact artistic musical demonstration of both Mike's and Jon's talents. Massively underrated at the time of release. The chess section of the video and Mike's guitar solo are wonderful.
@kavyman106611 жыл бұрын
Such a ridiculously happy song, yes the lyrics are silly but all the same it is very catchy and it is so well performed particularly the guitar solo, it just makes me happy to hear it! Cracking!
@IvanaFidersek10 жыл бұрын
oh man, I couldn't agree with you more, really makes you...just silly cheerful and jolly jolly happy happy modeish :P. Video clip itself is RIDICOLOUS, Jon and Mike in their 80's outfits and hair styles... gross :P

Shit hot guitar solo. That Gibson had a built in Midi/Synth as far as I know. Mike use to use patches to enhance the sound. That gnarly sound on the low strings is superb. Mike is the most underrated guitar god ever. There are guitarists who people vote as 'the best' and then there is Mike Oldfield the genius.
@ilovemydog68478 жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree with you more. The fact that he is not even on any of these list is just a travesty against good taste.

This is probably my second favorite Mike Oldfield guitar solo (after "Magic Touch"). I remember that it was mentioned to Mike, a few years later, that Jon had said he loved everything about the song, except the "silly lyrics". This struck Mike as particularly odd, since Jon wrote the lyrics. ^_^
