Mike absolutely went nuts on this one! He showed an absolute Mastery of the control of all the switches and sounds of the Organ as well as his masterful left foot and left and right hands. I mean this guy was on his A-game The Day He recorded this and it stands for all time as one of the true greats as does Mike.

It's my favorite too! I used to get up at 7 a.m. every morning just to hear Mike post his new video for the day. Of all the ones he posted this one is my favorite.

@@heathjamessr.771 Mike played an awesome version of "The House Of The Rising Sun" then replaced it with a newer version which wasn't as good. I've dug and dug and tried to find the first version with no luck. That was also an incredible piece!

I recently retired as an organist. Lenny was my first inspiration. I met him on my 14th birthday at his club. He was very kind and sat with us at every break. I was so thrilled!

Other keyboards replicate orchestra music but Hammond has its own distinct heavenly sound. From Camiling, Tarlac, PHILIPPINES.

hi Gene: thanks for your kind words of encouragement. Lenny loved playing that song, and I recorded it on my album "I believe in Music" in 1973, on my B-3. The Hammond Grandee has a great solovox sound, and I hope you enjoyed it all. Keep listening!

I play these all day in our Hammond organ store in Houston, TX over the PA while I'm working on the organs. Vintageorgans.com -Lone Star Hammond. Your videos sound fabulous. You're great. Everything doesn't have to be a B3 but most people don't seem to know that.

Now that was a really good recording of " Plantation Boogie " by Lenny Dee,you even got a good Solovox sound that Lenny used on his AV white Hammond ! Lenny's White Hammond was SOOO customized,there will never be another Hammond like it....that delay echo he had going through it also !
@mikereed34449 жыл бұрын
Bob Tyo in Columbus designed that white model A for Lenny.....he even put a vibraharp in the organ bench! I had a Solovox on my B-3, for years, and my Hammond Grandee has the same frequencies in the percussion section, so I can get that Solovox sound again!!! What fun, and thanks!
@flyingfingersmark9 жыл бұрын
That white model A of Lenny's was the greatest...I have spoken with Ed Goreman a few times ! What model Solovox did you have on your B-3 ? Did you have to have it cut down so it would fit ? Mark in Galena , Il
@mikereed34449 жыл бұрын
Mark Rockwell Mark, I think I had a model J or K Solovox.....Lenny's was mounted at the bottom of the two keyboards on the "A"; my dad and I raised my B-3 up, like Lenny's "A" case, and we put the Solovox up there, as a third keyboard.....it would then fit through a doorway, and it was easy to see the stop tablets on the front of the case. We called Hammond, and they told me how to wire the whole thing in through a Drawbar! It was a glorious thing, and my 1974 Grandee, which is the organ that I record with here at home, has a percussion section that has "second voice" and lets those voices be heard as organ tones......nothing more than a Solovox in pitches and design. By the way, Ed Gorman is an old and dear friend of mine, as he was Lenny's technician and mine, too! AND he lived around the corner from me! Thanks for the come-back- I appreciate the interest.....

I would like to put my Solovox to the right under the lower keyboard just like Lenny Dee did ! Mine is a model L Solovox ! My personal e-mail address is flyingfingersmark1@yahoo.com...Mark Rockwell in Galena, Illinois.

Fantastic! I love all your posts! Great playing style, great organ (Hammond Grandee, isn't it?) Do you use a separate leslie box? You make smart use of the multiplex synthesis voices also, I heard. Can't get enough of this stuff! Please keep playing and uploading! cheers, Caherine

I use a Hammond Grandee [1974] and a Leslie 700 speaker. I used a B-3 for over 30 years on the road. Can't beat that big sound! :0)

Hi Mike love your videos. Could you tell me how you create the Solovox sound? Regards
@mikereed34449 жыл бұрын
Hi.....On the Hammond Grandee there are "percussion sounds", and I use the first 4 of these tabs together to give me the exact sounds of the old Solovox that I used to have...use them with the first 4 drawbars and there it is, big and fat!!!!! Give it a try.....and thanks for listening.
@MediaCentury9 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike that's a help for me. I have the XE200B and been delving into the menus so coming up with a few ideas to get the Solovox bite.
