I'm 76 and know my limitations and dwindling capabilities, which are of course significant now, although I can still outwork many 20-year-olds who can barely lift an 80-pound sack of concrete, or who would have no ability to take down a 3 ft diameter tree and turn it into firewood as I did recently. And when I was 58 I also knew what I could and could not do. I can guarantee you that at 58 I would have been a tough challenge for many who would have been less than half my age. With the skills and temperament that Mike Tyson has ingrained in him, even at 58 he is going to be a fierce competitor. Do not underestimate him because you yourself are young and think all older guys are way over the hill.

Would you get in the ring with a 27 year old at your age now?
@larrywhited30708 ай бұрын
@@ryanr20091 Not without a compelling reason, and not if it was obvious that I would get my head handed to me on a platter. I definitely shy away from confrontations if at all possible. Last potential one was in a Subway sandwich shop about 6 years ago with a flabby, unfit loudmouth itching for trouble, and who was probably 40 years my junior. To make this brief, this is exactly what I told him: "I am going to save us both a lot of trouble; I'm leaving." Incidentally, I was carrying an Sig P229 with one in the chamber, and I do have a concealed carry permit. However, if he had followed me out and instigated a fight I doubt seriously if I would have needed any help beyond my fists, although I did have a clear and legitimate option. Times are different now than they were several decades ago. A "fighting ring" scenario would be very hard for me to imagine ever being likely or possible, and with my lungs I would have trouble going more than 2 rounds. However, I am absolutely certain that I would have no hesitation at all to intervene in a situation where an innocent party was being assaulted, regardless of the consequences that I might have to suffer. My considerable history proves this. Since your question seemed serious and genuinely inquisitive, I will add this: For the last 4-5 months for every other day (meaning every second day), I have been doing a minimum of 2 sets of 20-repetition curls using 20 pound weights for each arm. I also have a heavy bag set up in my basement, and I can still deliver some solid punches. Then there is this: a good friend the same age as I am still teaches martial arts. I would not be able to last 5 seconds with him. Again, I know my limitations.
@larrywhited30708 ай бұрын
@@ryanr20091 My carefully worded, albeit long-winded reply was deleted. I don't like providing short, unqualified answers, so I'll simply say there are too many wrong conclusions that could be made with a straight Yes or No answer. However, if you are simply asking if I think that at my age I could step into a ring and take on an even a marginally qualified and halfway professional 27-year-old fighter and do okay, then the answer is, "Of course not." I might surprise him a bit if I was able to get in a couple of hard shots, but that would be the best I could hope for before getting obliterated. (I do work out a bit with weights and a heavy bag.)

I think it is disrespectful of Jake Paul to attempt to weasel his way ahead of others that have trained and worked their asses off in professional boxing. Just because Jake Paul has a big KZbin following he shouldn't be able to get to the top any quicker than anyone else. The reason why he has so many haters is because he hasn't paid his dues like so many others have, instead he has just used his followers to make a spectacle out of boxing people who aren't even boxers or boxers that aren't very talented and the one time he does fight a talented boxer he loses. If he truly wants to have a serious boxing career then he needs to quit using his followers to try getting a short cut to the top and pay his dues just like Mike Tyson and all of the other great boxers that have come before him. That's the only way to not disrespect every other professional boxer that has ever stepped in the ring, at least in my opinion it is.

I’m not making any judgements on it these are just facts. I also wonder if it would even be POSSIBLE for Mike Tyson to get a fair trial, guilty or not. The whole world knew him and all they knew about him was he absolutely brutalized people on TV. Best heavyweight ever? Nope, drugs, partying, his manager and wife all brought him down and overcoming adversity is a big part of being an all-time great. However true boxing aficionados understand that early Tyson was unlike anyone they had seen, with blinding speed and savage ko power in both hands from crazy angles. Slipping and head movement that made for an extremely elusive style that made him one of the best if not the best technical heavyweight ever. Until everything brought him down, that is. That early version of Tyson that threw the wicked deadly accurate combinations I would match against anyone, of any time. The one-shot headhunter always looking for the knockout punch that came after he fired Rooney(and all the aforementioned) was still a good fighter, but definitely not an all-time great and fighters are judged by their entire career. So yeah, he will never be known as the greatest but he will be talked about for as long as boxing is around, and that’s worth something by itself. He’s a polarizing figure…every time someone has something positive or negative about him, someone else has to speak up to make the counterpoint. While people may not have a good opinion of him, they always have an opinion. When you consider that boxing is about entertainment and engagement, that means a lot.

Tyson is not undefeated so this fight really doesn’t matter. He still has the heart of a warrior. I’m rooting for Tyson but I’m not going to boo Jake Paul. They’re both adults, nobody is twisting anyone’s arm to do this.

Teddy now giving youtuber Jake “B.S.” Paul more credit than pro MMA Champion/boxer Francis N’Gannou. Only because Francis picked Mike Tyson over him in training/promotion for the big fight against Tyson Fury…. Francis let Teddy come out for one day, said ok thanks, then decided to go with Mike Tyson, or his team decided it. Watch Teddy’s complaints about Francis in his podcast from that time.

It's not just about fitness or even sporting ability, it's about an awareness of your surroundings and also you've got to remember who Mike Tyson is, where he grew up and the life he's had, there is still a hell of a beast in there and I'm not so sure it's a good idea waking it back up.

A 15 year old Tyson was knocking out older more experienced heavyweights and even at that age would have been dangerous against the top heavyweights of the time. I believe Tyson ceases to be dangerous to average fighters or semi-pros when he's about 70, not 58, this Paul character should be allowed nowhere near him. I hope it's just a celebrity work out for Paul's sake.

Teddy Atlas is class just like Cus D'Amato was. If Mike never signed with Don King he would have never gone to prison and he would have hands down been the greatest fighter of all time. As a teenager he was taking out grown men. Contenders were ducking him because they feared his punch. Everyone went to a sports bar with a cover charge to watch his fight because it would normally be over in 1 round and you just lost $50.

I’m not a Tyson fanboy but if Tyson can muster ten percent of his old self, which he can based on recent sparring videos, he will kill a much smaller amateur journeyman in early rounds. However, it will be a playfight like Jones, so this is a useless debate. - Congrats to these kids for hustling and making insane money.

Basically Teddy doesn't want to say out loud that this is a money grab, but he said it. And then he said a bunch of nonsense after that. All he could say about Tyson was "Mike Tyson has earned the right to make more money" and then compared this fight to George Foreman grills 😂 cause it's a sparring match that won't get sanctioned and will have no knockouts or hard hits whatsoever. There will be "no beating Tyson" as it won't be a pro fight

This fight is going to be a joke. The clause in Tysons contract will be. He will not be allowed to knock Jake out. He will not be allowed to win. And that's the price for the millions mike will be earning. But I'm hoping Mike rips all the rule books up. And knocks Jake Paul out clean. If Tyson comes out like the animal of old. It's lights out for Jake Paul. Because he lost against Mayweather. Mayweather was holding him up from the second round. Mayweather undefeated in his whole career. Then gets a fight against a you tuber. But did not beat him😂. He is making a joke out of the boxing world.

I am seeing people commenting on various YT vids that this is an exhibition bout, I myself have not seen that in the press anywhere. Jake Paul has faced other older fighters at full speed what makes this fight any different. Tyson has a lot to lose and not much to gain. I see Tyson taking him out because Jake Paul comes hard at him and that will set Mike off and it will be over.

There is NO WAY this "fight" isn't going to have some sort of "No Knockout" clause in it (in other words, it is an exhibition where no real punches are thrown). Jake Paul needs to get real and get some real matches with active boxers so he can see where is really stands, but make no mistake. If this is an actual FIGHT, Tyson will take his head off within 90 seconds. I am not a boxing person, but I know stupid when I see it and that is what this is. If they both go in, guns blazing, this is over very quickly.
@ericmathis37468 ай бұрын
I'm not a Jake Paul fan by any means.. but I find it funny when people say things like "yeah he's beating MMA guys and crappy boxers, why doesn't he fight a real boxer". I laugh because they aren't realizing what they're saying.. this kid ISN'T A REAL BOXER EITHER!! He is just a dude that one day began picking up boxing.. and started knocking out real fighters that have been fighting their whole lives! I'm amazed that this kid is winning these fights convincingly.. he's not a guy that's been boxing his whole life.. he literally just got started... It's crazy to see a dude that woke up one day and began fighting real fighters, ex champions.. and winning them by KOs in most cases. Look, I think his character is very tool-like.. he's not a likeable guy.. but what he's doing is impressive.
