I don't understand how People think that Tyson was overrated. Tyson had absolutely no advantages (on paper) in this fight. In his prime, Tyson fought everybody. Tony Tucker was no slouch; 6'5'' ,220, 10" reach advantage, undefeated title holder,etc. You can't ask for a more formidible opponent during that time period. The fights that Tyson did lose were because he was not focused, past his prime, and he didn't have the right people in his corner.

Agreed that the Douglas fight Tyson corner was horrible not having even the right equipment for the swollen eye. Also Tyson weight more than 220 pounds his fighting weight was in that time 216 218. I still believe nobody is invisible but the Douglas of that night could have given a death or alive battle to anyone.

After that uppercut Tucker connected on Tyson in the first round , he could have moved in immediately because Tyson was vulnerable, for 2 seconds.
@Illtechnica
@Illtechnica 8 ай бұрын
That uppercut re-injured Tony’s hand. And he favored it the rest of the fight. Mike was not “Mike” in this fight. The Tyson that fought Jose Ribalta would’ve ended this fight and the James Bonecrusher Smith fight inside 7 rounds. Notice Mike was doing his head twitching? That’s because he was coming off cocaine. That’s a withdrawal symptom. Go to the 1986 Ribalta fight, or even the Berbick fight… no head twitch. He wasn’t doing drugs then.

@@humbledude3784 you fight the guys in front of you. That’s all Tyson could control. Anyone with a name at that time, he fought. He was the real deal, but he unfortunately he was also very young and very unpolished. He had just turned 21 in this fight and he still needed guidance. The death of his father figure/mentor/trainer, Cus D’Amato, in 1985 was the beginning of his dissent. The death of his manager, Jim Jacobs, in early 1988 effectively ended his career. It just took the public another 2+ years to figure it out.

Clinching and stand up wrestling was a weakness of Tyson's. He excelled at close, in the pocket range but had difficulty as soon as his opponent's tied him up. You can see Tyson look visibly frustrated during these exchanges and look to the ref in many fights. Holyfield exploited this perfectly and was able to big brother him around the ring.

Mike actually listened to him, they had a bond, a respect for each other. Mike Tyson NEVER had a trainer that would stand up to him, they didn't wanna lose that big paycheck!! Mike fired Rooney for saying that "Robin Givens is about as pregnant as I am!!". So Don King wanted Rooney out of the picture as HE was the last bond that Mike had with Cus D'amato. Don King was/is an arsehole, FACT 💯 But lastly, d'you honestly think that Kevin Rooney would have let Mike step in the ring Vs James Douglas in the condition he was? Hell no. Mike's head & lateral movement were virtually non existent at that point. He looked flabby against Frank Bruno in February 25th "1989. So what I'm saying is that once Rooney was gone, so we're the attributes that made Mike Tyson into the fighter he was, period. Also, NO, Rooney didn't produce another World 🌍 Champion but he trained ex amount of fighters over the years, yeah. Rooney Vs Alexis Arguello is a naughty Knockout. THAT'S when Rooney became a trainer & then became Mike's head trainer. To this day I've NEVER heard Rooney publicly disrespect Mike, even after ALL these years. After the loss to Douglas, Kevin Rooney actually wanted to train Mike again. Oh yeah, Rooney helped train Vinny Pazienza, so there's ONE fighter for you. He became head coach & helped Vinny win back his World 🌍 Title. IF you don't know who Vinny Pazienza IS, then you have NO business commenting on Boxing forums & websites in the first place. I'm done folks. Free Gaza & Palestine NOW 💯✌️🇯🇴🇸🇾🇵🇰🇵🇼🇲🇷🇦🇪🇪🇬🇮🇪🇯🇲☪️☪️☪️💯✌️🌍❤️👑

You’d be way off. First of all, he won all his titles from mediocre boxers. He destroyed those with little talent. And then was knocked out by buster, Douglas. He fought too great boxes, and was totally beat, twice by Evander Hollyfield and totally destroyed by Lennox Lewis. He was a brawler and you enjoy watching him destroy those with less talent.

Even though Mike was known as the Best Heavyweight Champ, he was always undersized against majority of his opponents. This fight simply displays the advantages of true heavyweight opponents that knew how to use their reach and size. Respect to Mike for fighting bigger opponents and knocking them out…unfortunately this mismatch of size got the best of Mike not being able to dismantle and knockout Tucker like he does to most. Hats off to Tucker for being one of the very few Men that stood toe to toe for 12 rounds with Iron Mike.🥊

Tyson's Career, was ruined by some young woman, who invited him to her Hotel Room at 3am in the morning. (for a Cup of Coffee ?) then accused him of Rape, he spent 2 years 6 months, in Prison, and he was NOT the same Boxer, when he came out. (just like Ali) Ali said, IF ? a Black American, is not considered the equal of a White American, then I not going to fight, and probably get killed, in Vietnam. Correct !!! Ali was sent tp Prison for 3 years. The way Black Americans are treated has still not changed, and probably, NEVER will, particularly by the POLICE.

Tony Tucker was a very underrated fighter and gave a prime Mike Tyson maybe his biggest challenge until the fateful Buster Douglas fight in 1990. In the early 90’s, Donovan Ruddock also gave Tyson all he could handle at times. Tony Tucker also claimed he broke his right hand early in the fight against Tyson, which appears to be true in the fight. He relies almost exclusively on his left jab, and movement. Tucker later went the distance against Lennox Lewis also, losing by UD.
