I did this right after college when I couldn't find a job. I just charged a flat $29 for people in my neighborhood. I made my hangtags off a template on the internet. A lot of people took me up on that offer because they were too busy. I lived in an area of large, expensive houses with the owners working and commuting for long hours to pay for those houses. Come the weekend, they just wanted to laze about.

I definitely recommend knocking on doors to get work! I built my business Solely from knocking on doors no other marketing… And in two years I was making $200,000. I would still be doing it if I could find good help I know I can grow my business beyond the millions by just knocking on doors.

When I do mowing fliers I use 4 different color papers. Each color is a different price. That way when they call I just ask what color is the flier.

We use pine needles instead of mulch in the Carolinas. It's cheaper and lasts longer. Our hot sun just bleaches the mulch and it looks horrible.

What if the town you are canvasing has a no solicit law? Some towns require you to register with the city hall and want to know all of the details on your soliciting efforts, who what when where and how time etc. It can be quite complicated.

That makes sense. You could possibly have a second person behind you that has a chest mount go pro. And after each door interaction you could mention that you are filming for public training purposes. Or maybe to add to the raw effect you could just blurr the people out completely. Just a thought! I would love you see you put on the spot by a stranger at their door! I think you would provide incredible value to us guys that use door to door our primary marketing source. -Blake Bryck

The only thing that sucks about my neighborhood is you can’t do door hangers because it is classified as soliciting and people complain I’m trying to start in my neighborhood I have about 5 customers right now but it’s super hard to get customers even through facebook neighborhood page and I’m not old enough to drive yet

Door hangers aren’t considered soliciting. Also you only have to worry about soliciting if they have a sign that says “no soliciting”

Not quite in this case but with some companies they just hire cheap labor to work around all day spamming with door hangers and cards. Cool idea, but landscapers must know your local laws, here soliciting reaps a $2000 fine per complaint. I know a contractor who lost $20,000 in donations to government ponzy scheme. From what I have been told, I can knock on any door that I have made previous contact with and although a bit of a grey zone even contact with a previous owner has passed the test. Record all your contacts! Also I have had the threat of legal action because of placement of a door hanger. While the homeowner was traveling (their home did get broken into by some low life), my lawyer said without no flyers sign readible from the road that I was in the clear. With all that said I will consider proceeding with specific service door hangers, hung with a no knock system! Thank You!

That’s what I do because every neighborhood I’m in has a no soliciting policy. So door hangers all day. Nice thing is when they call they have really accepted the estimate already. So it goes really quick for set up
