I got a PASGT Kevlar Helmet back in 2019 for $40 from a small local military surplus store in Houston, TX & since the webbing suspension system was broken as it was in used condition, I got a $39 & free shipping Skydex PASGT helmet upgrade kit this year about a month ago. Then I fixed it by installing the Skydex PASGT Helmet Upgrade Kit so it now has Ballistic Pads in UCP gray via Velcro & a 4 Point Chinstrap in black.

Dig mine with upgraded system. Have 120 bucks in it including upgraded interior and modern cover with counter weights. Holds my nods well. And is comfortable enuffff. Good video Mike.

I've had many decades to think on this and I think I like the old two piece chin strap better than the new shit. I for one used to loop my chin strap through the helmet cover straps in the back to keep it out of my way. First Sergeant noticed and at first was dumbfounded why my helmet didn't have a chin strap. I explained what I did and was quickly informed to "wear it correctly".
@Nathan-jh1ho3 жыл бұрын
Not with me. It tends to bounce front to back and side to side too much. I like the Marine Corps X chin strap. The Army Headlock H chinstrap's chincup doesn't fit me, keeps getting over my lips. The older ACH H chinstrap keeps getting loose.
@louiesouthgate8347 Жыл бұрын
I use these when I ride my Harley davidson. Upgraded the padding and to a 4 point chinstrap. My buddies tell me this is way cooler than rocking a steel helmet.

Mike, I have been subscribed for a few years now. This is the best video you have ever made. It galvanizes everything militaria and surplus collecting is about. This was my first piece of surplus militaria and holds a special place in my heart. I thought your reasoning for durability and effectiveness and use should have resulted in usefulness and effectiveness receiving a 7 instead of an 8 and durability should have received a 9. It's not really fair to include something the helmet wasn't designed for in evaluating it that way, in either category, but I see the merits at the same time. Awesome video. Thank you for making it. From one military surplus collector to another.

Those bushy covers you were talking about in Grenada and Panama were called cabbage patch covers. They fell out of favor for a long time but I've seen photos from Iraq where I've seen more of these covers popping up. My dad wore one for Just Cause, he went in with the 7th Infantry Division, Light Fighters. He used cut up sections of cammies or burlap sacks and inch wide 6 inch or 12 inch strips that you tied around a netting that went over the helmet. Apparently it worked pretty well as long as it wasn't raining. The material would soak up water and gain a lot of weight in heavy rains.

I started with the steel helmet and was issued the kevlar helmet in the early 80,s thought it was heavy and less comfortable also generally larger which was an issue inside a track.

Great Video mike! I love that DCU camouflage pattern, it's one of my favourite camouflages ever, it looks very effective to me. On that topic, I've always been a huge fan, and more lenient towards organic camos like that. I love that DCU camo, multicam etc. Us british made use of a DPM woodland that was quite good too. I personally dont really like the digital camos, especially the 'universal' one america used. I suppose the marpat isn't too bad, but what do you think of digital camos as opposed to organic camos? What is your personal preference? When you served, what camos did you use?
