I love this, im big on sometimes less is more, and just because its not crazy technical doesnt mean it isnt good. I write drums for a buddy thats pretty green on guitar, I do a lot of simple stuff to get the songs finished, when Im writing drums for my band I get to do a little more, all about time and place.

Do you know Palm Olive? RAINCOATS first drummer, she's my favourite, she's brilliant on every song on their first album.. But I suggest you listen to "no looking" if you haven't got a lot of spare time.. It's got a deliciously simple clompy cyclic pattern which she really slows down and speeds up like nobody thought they dare get away with!! So it's playful and challenging and cheeky too!! It's well worth a listen if you're not familiar.. Philosophically you're already on the same page as her... You're most welcome!

Thanks for the helpful vids, are you able to do one on fills in 6/8?! I am struggling with them... I can put the occasional snare in but struggle to be creative with them... Thanks again 🙏

In nearly 40yrs of drumming I've never heard the term "Unisons" before, but it works. So thanks for giving me a name for something I didn't know had a name. :) My two favourites are at the end of the opening of G n' R's "You Could Be Mine" after the riding the tom section. And the opening of Santana's "Smooth", which is again repeated in the break at about 3/4s of the way through the song. The break begins with some really crisp hat/snare "unison" stabs, and then comes back in with some snare/floor tom triplet feel unisons. b, ba, baa, b, b, b, ba, ba, baa...
