Not that simple. 18650 cells must be treated very carefully as they can't stand high temperature.

It's actually much much cheaper and easier buying pre-made 36V 4.4Ah battery packs with a BMS already attached from this eBay seller for less than if you were to make it yourself and half the cost if you were to buy a battery pack from a diy skateboard site. www.ebay.com/p/Samsung-36v-4-4ah-Battery-18650-Ebike-Vape-Powerwall-Batteries-20/1621923126?iid=201895735309&_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D41376%26meid%3D5f1a3769f6f34e1d96645db8d02ea0e1%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D201916138726&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

I'm sorry but you said you were going to discuss all of the options but you didn't. When it comes to remote you didn't talk about low/high speed options, why you should invest in a vesc instead of esc, how you built your battery pack, what's the advantage of your solution instead of lipo etc. I'm looking forward to the series but this video left me kind of puzzled about choice of parts for my project. Just my 2 cents, you are doing great work :)

TropicalOnion go for the 7” pnumatics for sure! If you do, go for a dual motor set up with (2) 6455 motors. Also, because of the amperage demands use LiPos. It’s a very common set up for pnumatics.

What did this end up costing you? Idk if MBoards was selling the stuff they do now back when you built this but they have a lot of simple kits that you can put together and I chose a couple of them then has a 15-18 mile range, 25 mph and at ~$650. This is much better than boosted so thank you!

I actually like the Tupperware enclosure. I've seen something like that with Oren's videos. I like the idea of just popping two flaps open to swap out batteries to extend range. It looks to me like your new 18650-based battery has a longer length than the Hobby King ones you originally used. True?

Can you also go over calculations of motor type and battery (18650), specifically on how you arranged the batteries depending on the specs and how do you know what speed, range or torque you're going to get with these calculations. Both on hub and belt motors if they are diff..please

He also explained it is a 10s2P battery back with Samsung 25rs meaning the pack is 42 volts fully charged 4.2*10 =42... As for capacity we know they are 25r so 2,500 mah = 2.5 Ah. In parallel this is a 5AH pack...

You could do all for 350 I made mine for about that cost. But I bought small batteries and instead of buying wheels for boosted boards I opted to but drill regular wheels. It's all give or take, if you want less stress and work buy the more expensive stuff, if you can deal the stress of using less expensive parts then you build for cheap

Greetings. To say that I'm a noob in this whole world of electric skateboards would be a vast understatement. HOWEVER I have been watching a great many videos. And the one I seem to be gravitating towards is the enertion raptor 2. I like that they use hub motors in place of belts. So having just watched this vid I was wondering if it was possible to get something close to that and come in under the price they are asking for theirs. Also I am more interested in range than massive speed and I am a +plus 200 lb guy. So please factor those in when you answer and enlighten my stupidity. lol TIA Mike

Hey, I'm in the process of collecting the things you need to build an electric skateboard, but don't want to spend that much money, and don't see myself using it for any practice purposes. I have found most things reasonably priced but I struggle with the amount the ESC cost. What is important in buying an ESC? the voltage, wattage, how many Amps it outputs? I am planning on building a battery that is about 36V. Any suggestions for where to find one (preferably less than 85$) and used is fine.
@MikeBeard
@MikeBeard 6 жыл бұрын
+Sarah Crawford You’ll need one that can handle the voltage and amperage your battery outputs. I would try searching for a high amperage esc and got from there. I would get one that can handle around 100-120amps The Vescs can handle around 150amps

Mike! Thanks for this. Let me give you a bit of background. I've been using Boosted V2 and love it in most every way EXCEPT for battery life. I recently bought the evolve GTX and loved the battery life but it had some major drawbacks. 1. It's huge 2. The controller sucks! The unweighted trigger is extremely sensitive and I was almost thrown off the board every time I used the throttle. 3. The software on the ESC was really jenky. I returned it. Now I'm looking to build something myself which led me to you. Some questions if you will: Do you know of a shorter drop deck? 2. What controller is most similar to Boosted? I need something that will not lose connection in NYC (where I live) and have smooth with a weighted control so I can zoom around with good control. 3. Is it possible to program the throttle control? I come form the world of FPV racing drones... if you can control all your variables on a drone why cant I do that with my board? 4. what are good options for mounting the motors so they aren't hanging off the back like the GTX? Thanks and I plan on getting my batts and other stuff from you.
@MikeBeard
@MikeBeard 6 жыл бұрын
I'll try to answer to the best of my ability haha 1. The shortest drop through deck i've seen is 39", I haven't done a ton of looking for shorter ones though, I'm sure there are shorter ones out there. 2. The Enertion Nano-X seems to look the most like boosted. I haven't used it though 3. Yes it is possible to customize a ton of the settings on the VESC. 4. Best motor mount I've used so far: diyelectricskateboard.com/collections/electric-skateboard-motor-mounts/products/single-bolt-on-motor-mount-set-only-black?aff=2

Hello my friend. First of all i would like to say very informative video i really liked it, and i am going to use it really in building my own Eskateboard. Second, i really want my board to have a speed of 28mph i know it is a little bit scary but that's what i want. Plus that i want it to be able to go for about 24miles. I really don't know how to build that and what exactly or even from where i can get these requirements from so I am hopping u can help me. Third, what about 20700 batteries, aren't't those better and much durable ? And i seem to have a problem with the website it dose not open at all. That's it for now i hope u can help me please

+mohamed sherin A 10s Battery would get your pretty close to 28mph. You’d need like 15000mah capacity to get you to 24miles. I’m sure 20700 batteries are great. Just have to keep an eye on pricing and actual value. And our website is up and running. Should be fine.

Is it possible with the power cable and port to charge lipo batteries?
@MikeBeard
@MikeBeard 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you wire the charge port to a proper BMS for your lipo batteries and your charger is the proper voltage everything will work :)

I'm in the process of building one right now :) Just can't find a good pulley system and yellow wheels (yes yellow is important for my theme). Anyone have a suggestion for yellow wheels and a fitting pulley system? (From Sweden, EU) ps. Great vid once again :)

Hey Mike, I've seen a few of your videos and played around on your website. Added all the items from your Kit list to my cart on Amazon and saw it was going to be at least $350 dollars just to make the battery. I understand that the price of an item on Amazon fluctuates daily, so the price for all the items I had could have been drastically different from the price you paid during your purchase(s). Overall, what sort of budget should I have for parts? I know the stock model you sell on your website is $800, so I'm guessing that figure includes all the parts + labor. My questions are: How much do you pay to make a 'stock' board (no additional extras)? Is your cost going to be lower than my cost because you're buying in bulk? What can I expect to pay?
@MikeBeard
@MikeBeard 6 жыл бұрын
+ACE3CGL Amazon does fluctuate a ton. And buying in bulk helps the price a ton. I’d plan on paying $550-$600 on a board.

Mike Beard Thanks for the answer Mike. It helped me come to the conclusion that while I may be able to build a better board or buy one from you, I'm going to purchase a Backfire G2 because it's a better fit for me on my limited budget.

Do you recommend hub motors or a regular motor with a belt?
@MikeBeard
@MikeBeard 6 жыл бұрын
+Dom T Depends on what you are looking for. You’ll get better acceleration and torque with belt driven. But you’ll get a more minimal, quieter, and simpler build with hub motors. I’d like to make a hub motor vs belt driven video in the future 👍🏻

Just curious, why use a pulley system for giving power to the wheels as opposed to just having the motor drive the wheels themselves?
@MikeBeard
@MikeBeard 6 жыл бұрын
Belt driven systems have better torque and braking power than Hub motors.
@ripetoad
@ripetoad 6 жыл бұрын
Dang that was the fastest response time I've ever seen. Another question, how does braking work with electric boards? Sorry if you answered that in another video, I've yet to check out all of them.
@MikeBeard
@MikeBeard 6 жыл бұрын
The polarization of the motor is reversed which creates resistance to the spinning motor which then slows you down.
