@Hiro-7503 жыл бұрын
I mean you can do that right now!
@TechSupportDave3 жыл бұрын
@@Hiro-750 yeah. but unfortunately the experience will be underwhelming as i believe some plants are really disgusting. but i personally oddly enough like strong flavours, no matter how good or bad, so I think I could try it. it's actually super interesting, because basically, with enough practice, you can become an extremely efficient forager. meaning, you can find lots of edible plants, collect them quickly, for a low amount of effort and time. ok i realise i sound a bit funny but can't you learn to live on this stuff? of course, supplementing the forest diet with store-bought foods. but i think you'd be saving a lot of money feeding on insects and plants.

One thing you can also quite easily forage (might required some effort, though) is palm tree. To my knowledge, there are no poisonous palm trees, and they all have a soft core, white to off-white color that is incredibly nutritious. The hard part is that the yield is low and it is right in the middle, which means you need a way to take the tree down and open it. And also palm trees are more of a tropical seaside plant so it mostly grows close to tropical forests.

Not gonna lie this would be relatively easy here in NE oklahoma. On my 1.5 acre land there's mulberry trees, mockernut hickory trees, black cherry trees, persimmon trees, a slippery elm (Only one sapling), black walnut trees, a black oak tree, redbud trees, apple trees (we planted these), peach trees (planted these as well), some kind of grape vine, and last but certainly not least, a somewhat regular population of genuine morels. Disclaimer - I don't know much about edible plants, I just like trees. There's probably more ground plants that you can eat, and there's loads more mushrooms that I don't know about. There's also very abundant populations of squirrel, bunnies, and deer. And that's not getting into how productive the rivers around here are. I was literally eating some white bass that I caught this afternoon while watching this.
@DH-xw6jp3 жыл бұрын
Clover, dandelion, and lamb's ear grow in abundance in Oklahoma. Cattails too if you are near water. The lower stems of young cattails are sorta like celery and the roots are hard and crunchy very similar in texture and appearance to ginger (i would suggest boiling like potatoes). And of course the cat tail puff itself when it is still yellow with pollen (and after it has dried and turned brown it makes great firestarter)

foraging in the uk does work but the problem with doing it on paths is that dogs pee on them.. a good way to find what is clean is with another dog; if you get the dog to sniff a plant and they show interest in it like they keep sniffing it, then it is not clean, if they sniff it and then move on.. its clean!
