As someone who's a motorcyclist and also photographer, I doff my hat to your commitment, I always found it such a pain getting off the bike, getting the camera out, setting everything up and finding the shot, to just do it all again in reverse then ride a few miles down the road to do it all again, it might sound lazy but I always found the photos a bit lacklustre for the effort that was put into them, having said that, I've got some very nice ones along the way, living in a rural area does have it's advantages for being surrounded by natural beauty.
@MikeBrowne2 жыл бұрын
Thanks @Northern Ride. I agree it is a lot of messing about to use the bike all the time. The intention of these Photo Biker vids is to help folks make the best of what they have available. For instance I can't do very early morning, late evening shoots because it's too dark for the video camera and nowhere to carry lighting. Thanks for your understanding ... MIKE🙏😊

Excellent tips as always Mike. I liked the second one of the Trumpet as 16mm made the bike look normal instead of a banana. One thing to remember about fields; It's not always a good idea to hop over a gate to have some photo fun with the flora. There are land owners out there who will shout "Get Off Moi LAAAAND!" and nail you for trespassing. Always follow the country code. Keep to the footpaths, keep your dog on a leash, dont feed the animals and close gates behind you. A 70-300mm lens will easily get a decent photo from the road side of the gate. I learned the country code when I was a kid and for some reason it stayed with me all these years. One day I might just get to ride my Kawasaki again and get out and about with my camera.
@MikeBrowne2 жыл бұрын
Fair point Jim. Though as a country boy myself I've always found farmers are fine provided we don't damage crops. Some even stop for a chat. Of course some, especially in places next to a main road like this can get really pissed off when hundreds of folks are doing all the time. And get that Kwaka and camera out together. It's great. BTW did you know I've set up a facebook page for Photo Bikers? Link below... MIKE🙏😊 facebook.com/mikebrownephotobiker

Second shot on Thunderbird, Third shot on Cottages, purely because you brought in the roses, that increased the interest, Poppys thought it would have been better with a longer depth of field and the other two? I thought of Flanders and Wordsworth, a host of. Would like to know the route. DG New Forest 🤙

Hi @David Green. I tend to navigate by sense of direction, taking roads that look interesting and go roughly the right way. Google maps is last resort if I can't find it. It was roughly Salisbury - Amesbury - Calne - Lyneham - Cricklade - a few tiny roads to avoid Cirencester and into Bibury. The poppies were somewhere near Stow-on-the-Wold. Sorry I can't be more specific... MIKE🙏😊

Bibury, archetypal English village. Aren't the row of cottages the most photo'ed buildings in Britain? Yet they can still they can yield fresh images. Both the bike images have their place , but if I was going for impact then I'd have got closer to rear of the bike and have it as "fish eyed" as possible. As a standard establishing shot then the 2nd one was the winner. You're saying you're travelling and this was a place to come back and explore more closely.

Watching it on a small screen first I preferred the 10mm shot because the slight distortion on the bike made it more interesting to my eyes. Watching again in full screen on my monitor I preferred the 16mm because of the tighter field of view (cut off unnecessary background on the left) and the better sharpness of the background.

You're so right @SM1960. Making my online Masterclass course took months because of this. Cameraman, model, location all arranged because the weather forcast said conditions would be perfect to demonstrate a particular situation, so we'd book it in the diary, arrive to shoot and 5 minutes later weather changed and we'd have to cancel and start from the beginning all over again. I don't run many workshops in UK for this reason. Best light is in autumn / winter when it's not overcast or raining, which it does most of the time... MB
