@@jonahkolell I think it's cool that the hologram is apparently a full personality, like a personality brain scan or something, not just the usual pre-recorded responses to common questions. Hence, he can actually have a real conversation with you, react, and emote. I really enjoyed his reaction to finding out that Rossman Prime died and that Bragg was Enclave. His tone is conversational and casual, which I did not expect from a hologram.

@@Toxic_Korgi I never understood the appeal of that, unless it's a fantasy story like Skyrim where it's critical to the entire story making sense. I loved the Battlefield 3 campaign specifically because you just felt like another Army grunt, not some god tier hero. That actually made everything I did feel so much more meaningful, because it felt like there was a serious struggle for it, not like I was going to do it no matter what because I was some super special super soldier or anything like that. I love those stories of average heroism, because that's what war is like. Thousands of small acts of heroism happening across the entire front

Actually much as i hate to agree with the hologram, yes West-Tek in association with Vault-Tec were indeed cooperating with the Enclave shadow government in the development of the Vault-Tec program. It's why way back in Fallout 2 the enclave had the data necessary to locate the vaults along with the access codes to get inside. This gets further expanded on and confirmed with Fallout 76 (as divisive as that game is for the fandom).

Which is precesiely why, despite its numerous flaws it is really difficult to accuse New California for butchering the lore. Some of it's story choices were questionable, but it is clear to me that the devs did their homework to the best of their abilities to ensure Lore is as accurate to official canon as possible.

It occurs to me how badly I played this mod. I went path of the warrior but got kicked out of it by Bragg for a failed charisma check, so I had to be maintenance. I shot the samurai on sight because I thought they were raiders. And now I'm learning all kinds of stuff I did wrong.

Which is funny because Zach is also fucking up in many many ways. I mean he chose Scientist without putting any points in Science or focusing on INT. Not to mention failing every skill check causing him to lose every single companion besides Ben who will never leave you unless you tell him too. Hell even killing the raiders when they ambush you at Pinehaven is a bad idea. If you talk to them and get captured it's an entire questline that allows you to either fully side with the raiders, or work with them long enough to join the NCR when they meet in battle.

Edit: i just realized, what if this was a joke in reference to the pipeline job he had before? 18:00 Having played factory games and knowing about industrial logistics, I can tell you that pipes are at least 10, if not 100, times more efficient that trucking water around. 1 you don't need containers. You also don't need the time to transfer water to and fro containers 2 you don't need tires or fuel or a driver for the truck 3 you don't need the return trip carrying nothing 4 you don't have to worry about traffic TLDR if you can pipe it, pipe it.

the enclave being in charge of the vaults is a sort of thing? The Enclave is formed from a bunch of old world rich people who did comprise of some Vault Tec people with the intention to build spaceships to try to escape the nuclear hellscape that was the world (the intention was never to try to make earth liveable again) and the Vaults were meant to be simulations for people being contained in cramped, claustrophobic environments. as to why they decided to do things like fill certain vaults with Hallucinogens and others with drugs, Vault Tec is made of sadists who like to see how long it takes to suffocate a person rather than actual scientific experimentation.

Vault-Tec is basically the personification of “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.” Except that they did think about if they should, and decided yes they absolutely should.

@@chickenpurple6704 This was a pretty far while back, but Bragg contacts you through the radio and you can either choose to be a spy in the raider faction or just destroy them and meet up with the enclave after doing some more ops. You need to go the warrior path and try to suck up to Bragg as much as possible to join up with him

tbh i dunno about that i mean the thing about Enclave run is that you're essentially doing NCR/ Raider run except as an Enclave double agent so the only real difference is that you get to back stab other factions at the end so Enclave run is basically the same as any other but with a different ending. Its still cool that you can at least work with the Enclave. In fact as it is right now New California is the only major expansion mod that allows you to join the enclave until Fallout Miami comes out. Frontier had a chance to implement joinable Enclave too but...yeah its not even worth bringing that one up. Bad memories.

I did not have nearly a high enough science score to solve this part. Thankfully the mod makers were kind enough to add a stack Dean's Electronics in the area where you find Rossman hologram. What's that, Dean's Electronics raises repair? That's right, so I had to go grind levels to raise my science to 70 to further that quest.

I agree thought in his defence the mod is structured in a way that most first time players will go through it that way so only returning players who decide to try different routes and choices will get to experience New california at its best. Kinda like in Frontier. Most first time players will chose NCR which as we all know sucks the most while Legion route which is the best is something that most people wouldn't chose on their first playthrough so unless you're the kind of guy who despite being massively disappointed on your first run still choses to continue playing to find out how the rest of the mod is like then you will more than likely quit and never return assuming that the rest of the mod probably sucks too

@@TomTom-yc5zc The other people from the vaults being companions for a start. Raiders have a whole section to themselves, same for enclave. He also only did like 70% of the stuff from the vault. In essence he made a build and played in such a way that he would only get the low points of this mod. *spoilers* First time i played it after I left the vault I got captured by the raiders and was taken to elsdragon. Then I got dropped into a massive hole where I united with other slaves to fight out of a pit for my freedom. After that I got sent to war on the other side of the conflict with the vertibirds. after I returned I chose a choice that let me kill elsdragon and basically start the wild card ending where I killed everything.

Considering this mode never got finished. They must have never got around to having the other companions appear in Union City. When they decide not to follow you after the cabin scene. Or at least appear out in the pass either having not survived the journey or still in route.

I'm starting to see where the direction problems are. The conversations are long chunky monologues, interspersed with very small mandatory dialogue trees that have to be exhausted before continuing. There doesn't seem to be an option to get to the point or direct the conversation into interesting directions outside of the limited presented narrative.

While its no longer officially canon, the Enclave was in charge of Vault-tec. Or at least Vault-tec had wormed their way into the echelons of the Shadow Government that became the Enclave, if they weren't founded by it from the get. Recalling that the Enclave is literally just the decedents of a bunch rich CEOs, politicians, a handful of other powerful people, and their families, so the concept of them owning a company in what was pretty much an oligopoly turned nationalist authoritarian corporatocracy seems pretty normal really. "I don't trust people who can't be bought. You never know where their loyalties lie." What dumb writing. If they can't be bought you probably know *exactly* where their loyalties lie because when you try to buy them they generally tell you. Its mercenary forces that swing on a better offer.

I wasn't a massive fan of the California Tribe's writing, mainly cause it just didn't gel with what I interpreted from other games. All the mysticism about technology seems like some idea one of the writers thought was just the coolest idea ever and absolutely had to include whenever any tribal had dialogue about it. It just doesn't happen anywhere else in the series as far as I'm aware; other tribes know tech isn't magic, probably, they just don't know how it works. I think the concept could work in another setting. Since it's not a bad one, just one that feels forced in. ...Also Zach's right on the money with the Kurtz and Star Player's backstory stuff. On the PC's part it gets worse (but I'll let you discover that later), but at least Kurtz Shadowheart Devil Blade the Bifurcator of Souls' story doesn't become anything big after this.
