Side gun fact about the Desert Eagle: When they were making the first Robocop movie they were originally gonna have his Auto 9 be a Desert Eagle because of how big the gun looked and was at the time. But when they put the suit on Peter Weller they noticed the gun looked small in his hand. So they changed it and used a modified Beretta 93R to make the Auto 9 handgun.

Not only that, but the gloves that Peter wore were too bulky to fit in the trigger guard. And the Beretta 93R has an enlarged trigger guard that you could fit your trigger finger and thumb in when holding the front grip. Then they bolted a bit old slab of aluminum onto the front end and called it a day.

Caps made sense in Fallout 1 as a stopgap currency. There's a limited supply, they're easily recognizable and portable, and they're backed by a tangible resource (clean water). In Fallout 2 they were mostly replaced by NCR money which I believe was backed by precious metals. Fallout 3 brought back caps probably just for brand recognition, same as super mutants and the enclave, and never bothered to explain how the economic model works. IIRC Bethesda mandated that New Vegas had to use caps again so the official explanation is that the Brotherhood set off a dirty bomb in the NCR's treasury and devalued their money, so lots of people are going back to the cap/water standard. And then by Fallout 4 they *had* to have caps In Service To The Brand. This is all off the top of my head so feel free to Um Actually me in the replies.

I do know that the limited supply claim rings true, especially in that sidequest that Alice in New Vegas gives you to destroy a counterfeit cap press. I also think that is the reason why things tended to be so expensive in the game as well, inflation and lower cap value must've happened because of it.

I do like the Um Actually reference, but my one correction was already mentioned (the side quest for Crimson Caravan). My one addition would be to comment that the bottle cap already has a ridged edge (or reeded edge) that makes it harder to make a counterfeit version, and metal having its own intrinsic value in a post-apocalyptic setting

@@username1660 there was some talk about how the NCR/brotherhood war included a suicide mission on the bigger reserve of the former, btu I believe it's ancillary media flavor text rather than in-game proper altho, the thing with the rate being lower away from the core territories also makes a lot of sense. hell, pretty much only the casinos uses them directly a currency, for everyone else but the NCR main questgivers is pure trade items!

a big thing is that in F1 and 2 the big thing was that pure barter was the main form of trading, camps were intended as shorthand for traveling merchant so that they didn't have to move around much stuff on less effective runs (the original in-game system of value trading even works like that). 3 is the first where caps are the direct currency, and by then using them as the money, rather than as a trade filler I would say something about BoS, but everything from that game reads as a bad fanfic in the first place...

the idea behind the glowing sea and the buried bus is that a bunch of earth and debris got flung by the nuke that landed there resulting in the area being buried.

That would only occur with a subsurphace detonation, a level impact explosion will push at things mostly in the direction that the impact happened the earth is curved and no missle will come stright down always from an angle, a in-air Detonation will cause a more or less equal amount of force in all directions. Only a subsurphace detonation would cause clots of dirt to spew into the air, the glowing sea could have been something if they just make a bit of Institute lore about their own shadow war with the enclave during the events of fallout 3. Litterally just make that area the sight of a Institute engineered Nuklier Meltdown in Not-Ravenrock

Man, it's uncanny how I watched this after just having a conversation with another soldier about the NATO phonetic alphabet. The change from the Able Baker system pretty much came in full effect in the late 50's with some minor changes after. Able Baker was great as a standardized system when it was only used by the US, Britain, and the Commonwealth as it was during WWII, but it had too many sounds unique to English to function properly for NATO. So the simple answer is any change that was made, was made to make it easier for anyone who didn't speak English as their native language.

Bottle caps as currency was used by water merchants as currency, and was used by the common people for trade because it was backed by clean drinkable water. In california at least, idk why the east coast is using them other than bethesda being unoriginal. Also the legend of El Dorado in real life was born because the european saw the natives with gold jewelry and thought it must be so plentiful even poor people have lots of it, instead of just their culture not assigning value to something with intrinsically no value. In their mad crusade for gold spain found tons of platinum, which they dumped in the ocean because their own culture didn't assign any value to it.

Zach, the 429 DE is based on the 50 AE necked down to 429 caliber. The 429 mag has a larger case capacity than the 44 mag and uses the same bolt as the 50 AE. The 44 mag version needs a different bolt, and since it's rimmed it has more difficulty feeding from a magazine. The 44 mag is already a 429 caliber, they just called it the 44 mag because it sounded better; it sounds better than 43 mag. I grew up in Alaska, I saw quite a few Desert Eagles being carried in shoulder holsters because we have large bears and people that didn't want a revolver often picked the DE in 50 AE. The 44 mag version wasn't carried as much because those jam more often.

Basically, in the very first game, caps had value as they represented bottles of clean drinking water, which was very rare when FO1 took place. The idea was that you could walk up to the water merchants, hand them a cap, and get a 12 oz bottle of water in return, and people started trading the caps as a form of currency. By FO2, clean drinking water had become common place enough for caps to lose their value and the west coast settlements needed to switch to a new currency, which in that game were NCR dollars minted from gold.

You can download mods to make the Glowing Sea actually deadly...I think the one I use starts with +6 rad damage and goes up from there. Speaking of mods, 3/4s of my power armor and weapon mods are located in the Glowing Sea or have Legendaries that're in the area...it's like Doc Mitchel's House for Fallout 4. :P

What pisses me off the most about Power Armor is that it’s the only armor with health. Your basic armor can take millions of bullets without issue, while PA (which is supposed to be stronger) can only take a couple hundred before falling apart.

Bethesda retconned caps back into existence because they had probably only played a few minutes of fallout 1 before making fallout 3, judging by the level of disregard they handle the lore with. By Fallout 2 caps were worthless, having been replaced by the NCR dollar and even having a joke quest reward involving their worthlessness. The NCR dollar and cap situation in fnv was an attempt to explain bethesdas stupid retcon.

I may have commented on other videos where Zach mentioned Deagle, but yeah. Whole Deagle thing started as proof of concept; make a handgun design capable of handling big caliber stress. Tests showed that the Deagle could indeed handle .50 AE flawlessly, but Magnum Research initially planned to just commercially sell .357 and .44 versions. It's just.. people WANTED that .50 AE and MR delivered.

Because every bethesda made fallout no matter the time or state has bottlecaps as currency and it is hella goofy. Atleast New Vegas kinda made it work by adressing leigon and NCR money, but even then it would be neat if the "caps" were just a bottle cap coin or something

One thing that always bothered me about this game: They made it basically mandatory to pick up all the junk you find, because there is no vendors or anything to create armor/weapon mods, but at the same time, all (or most) of your followers will give you shit every time you pick something up. "Ew, why you picking that up? It's junk!", this shit is the reason you're walking around in fully upgraded power armor, insta-killing everything with a laser rifle.

SO many trivia notes tonight! They ask about the buried bus. High-yield nuclear explosions will cause the ground near the epicenter to behave like liquid for a brief period. Vehicles that aren’t blown away may well sink, and large buildings will capsize. The other benefit of the newer phonetic alphabet is that almost every letter is two two or more syllables, improving the odds that a letter can be understood when spoken by a non-English speaker. When I was a pilot a few years back, you would occasionally hear wilco and will comply (I used both). More often you heard amateur pilots misusing roger, and then hearing air traffic controllers keep having to reissue directives to these idiots until they read back the instructions properly.
