Best way I've figured to make those cheapy ramen packets when I absolutely have to (I'm a student) is to break the packet in 4, put it in a bowl, pour boiling water until they are more than a bit covered and cover the bowl with something for about 3-4 minutes. Makes them more soup like with nice tender noodles , then if you want you can pimp it out with eggs, spring onions etc...

Yes I agree that aldi is definitely the place to shop. For three people, our bill came to £27 whereas when we shopped at Sainsburys, our bill was double that. Please note, this bill includes fresh produce and not convenience food which is not worth the money and is not as nutritious. Convenience foods are merely what I would regard as time saving supplements. For example, in sainsburys, I would buy for example, fish pie for £1 from the freezer section and to that I would add my own potatoes and carrots and voila, you've got a meal.

That egg's sunny-side up. Over-easy eggs require you to flip the egg over and cook the underside. Still has a runny yoke but a lot more solid. Very delicious.
@Lynxfan26 жыл бұрын
Although an egg is an egg and it is one ingredient, I can tell the difference in taste, especially with regards to the yolk, between a Free Range Hen's Egg and a Battery Cage Hen's Egg. Also the shell of a Battery Cage Egg is easier to break than the shell of a Free Range Hen's Egg.

Water and rusk sausages. Never mind the other ingredients. Soak rusks in water and heat them up, possibly with added flavors.
@ZipplyZane6 жыл бұрын
That egg with the (bad looking) sausages looks closer to sunny side up than over easy to me. Over easy is actually a cooking direction. You cook them on one side, then gently flip them on the other side, not to break the yolk, and cook for only a short bit of time. The result is usually that a thin layer of whites covers the yolk. This is the way my mom prefers her eggs. Sunny side up doesn't flip the eggs at all. You just cook the one side, and maybe toss some of the hot oil on top to try and cook the whites a bit on top. Another technique is to cover the skillet as they cook, and let the steam cook the top. Either results in there being a nice bright egg yolk on top. Dad likes over medium, which is like over easy, but you let it cook longer, and the yolk becomes kinda gooey instead of so much liquid. I tend to prefer over hard or any other hard fried egg. Either of these works better in sandwiches, I find, as the yolk doesn't run out.
@genorp6 жыл бұрын
The egg was sunny side up, not over easy. Over easy is when it's flipped over to set the white, but not long enough to set the yolk. Interesting point on the sausages, 42% is the minimum in UK law to call it a "pork sausage".
@EdgyNumber16 жыл бұрын
In those pork sausages the odd names are standard ingredients on all sausages. The 'anti-oxidants' are there to preserve them; ASCORBIC ACID is basically VITAMIN C. Presumably there to preserve the rusk content. The contents vary according to market position and production cost. Pure pork in Finest sausages significantly higher and will contain less fat based components such as pork rind.. thus would obviously have better texture. If you look at the ingredients it's actually mostly natural. All is edible but you pay for what you get .. 8:15 -without (Everyday Value) baked beans? Sacrilege...

Atomic Boomstick Yeah, I'm sure there was a bit of a fuss about the low meat content in sausages some years back, but maybe things have just changed as people have become more informed and companies have just had to increase the meat content in their products. Cheap free range eggs should never be a thing, farmers in the uk are going out of business because of shops like Tesco constantly forcing down prices on things like milk and eggs to the point that they either lose money or just break even so with the low prices, farmers have to try to make more produce with less and less money or just simply give up on their business which creates more strain on the other farmers and creates one vicious circle so it's ALWAYS worth spending the extra few pennies on more expensive free range eggs and if it's "too expensive" then you don't NEED milk and egg to survive, eat something else it won't kill you.
@raj1029456 жыл бұрын
Your taken in by what " they" say. There are plenty of extremely well off farmers who moan because they want more and more profit. Tesco, Asda etc etc have been selling cheap milk and eggs for decades. Its not a recent thing. Those farmers have supplied them for many years. They are all making good money. So many people feel sorry for the "poor" farmers, but in reality, they are far from poor .

i think sausages would be one of the only things i wouldn't go "value" on, think it stems from growing up in the 80/90's and finding random bits of gristle in sausages, just the thought of it makes me gag now. Richmond all the way for me, and based off this, i'd get decent bread, but seriously thinking about replacing a lot of my next shop with value range items, they mostly seem really good especially if you add in the savings

The US is really bad about letting companies put stuff that you wouldn't really call food in meat!
