@@vengbanana you'd be surprised, even mike who has done a lot of measurements of stuff screws up often, the average person is really bad with portion sizes and being able to extrapolate how healthy/unhealthy something really is, that's why we need to change the law requirements so companies have to put "per 350g" and not have the consumer either 1) not make the consumer calculate the calories in a serving or 2) making the meal upon first glance seem healthier than it is in actuality.

I tend to agree with this. I'm reasonably well paid, but have financial commitments that mean I'm spending about £15-20/wk on food at the moment (although to be fair, I've never been a breakfast person and I rarely lunch). Aldis fresh meat is good, cheap sides (50p/pack microwave rice, sod all wrong with it either) and they have dirt cheap pizza for when you want to be a bit slobby.

The thing i feel mike doesnt take note of is the fact that total cvost is how much he has spent ( i assume) for all the food, while he clearly doesn't eat the whole lot such as the Indian selection, im sure if he tried to work out roughly how much he ate per item and the cost it would work out cheaper, still not necessarily cheap though.

I've never understood those that say you are making fun of poor people when you slag the meals off because even though what you buy is cheap it is far cheaper to cook at home from scratch and make healthy food than it is to eat that crap , the people that feed that stuff to their children arent poor they are just lazy or dont know how to cook. I've just made chilli con carne with rice and flatbreads from scratch and it probably cost me about £2.50 altogether and there is enough left for another meal so £1.25 a meal , that's cheaper than most things you have been eating on this week on. Farmfoods is a decent place to get certain foods for cheap. Avoid the ready meal/microwave stuff (as you should everywhere else) and you’re alright! Their 3 for £4 own brand range of potato products is good, can mix and match between a variety and they last ages. Often offer unique stuff too. It sounds like a faff but we typically go to different shops for different things to save the money. Might go to Farmfoods for this, Asda or Tesco for that; but the amount you can get for your money from here is insane. Had like 3 or 4 bags worth of stuff for about £14 recently, can’t get that sorta value anywhere else. They even do vouchers to get money off your shop, but I find it difficult to spend the amount necessary to even use them. It’s that affordable.

For some reason this appear in my recommend videos so I decide to watch it and am I missing something? If buy cheap pies, ready meals, frozen chips etc from any supermarket are they not all bad? Farmfoods stocks plenty of staple food items to cook from scratch, like frozen chicken breast, mince meat, stewing beef etc along with fresh and frozen veg, and store cupboard items like tinned tomatoes and pasta. If you wanted a healthy, balanced diet on a budget you can certainly do at farmfoods like you can from any UK supermarket, just requires you cook rather than reheat rubbish. Like I said this is the first time I have seen one of your videos so if I have missed the point then sorry but it does come across a bit unfair on farmfoods to me.

I’ve never understood why there’s so much in frozen food when freezing is a method of preservation. 😕
@AWriterWandering4 жыл бұрын
@@mgthestrange9098 For flavor mostly. Not only is salt objectively cheaper, but you also have to factor in the fact that the reheating process actually causes a lot of the flavor compounds to break down. Now you could compensate by adding more seasonings before hand... or you can just use salt, which won’t break down (its a mineral after all) and has the effect of enhancing other flavors. Another factor is just that our culture is just so used to consume lots and lots of sodium. To the point that things often taste “wrong” without the addition of salt.
