How to paint a hen

This week, I show you how to create an acrylic painting of a dominiker hen also known as a dominique or pilgrim fowl. These black and white feathered chickens actually have quite a few subtle colours in their plumage that I've tried to capture. I used interactive acrylics for this chicken painting and this allowed me to readily apply thin watercolor-like washes and thicker layers to dinstinguish between bird and background.
Materials used: Daler-Rowney A2 mixed media paper, Atelier interactive acrylics: alizarin crimson, french ultramarine, cadmium yellow light, burnt umber, carbon black, titanium white, synthetic brushes (half inch and one inch flats, small round brush), water spray bottle

Hi Mike ! I was browsing through your Channel and found this adorable chicken painting which like the Warthog just stole my heart !! I love this! Would you do another chicken painting for me? I just adore keeping poultry and I love to see how others interpret them, especially in the form of art! I currently have 7 chickens (plus 4 ducks) and of them all my favorite bird is my Speckled Sussex hen, her name is Joy. I can only imagine how beautiful she would look on the canvas (or paper!) as she has those wonderful green and white specks that look like a work of art themselves. ❤️
