Never forget that you can kill 9 enemies in a row with the Blue Candle without taking damage on yourself - and kill the 10th enemy with a bomb to get a bomb drop! So if you are "low on bombs" (1-3), you never have to buy 4x bombs for 20 rupies in the overworld. And in the overworld, try to kill the blue enemies with the blue candle - they are more likely to give bomb drops. Love to watch other people play Zelda 1. So amazing game. It's not TOO complicated but still a perfect challenge!

Congrats! The wand is definitely the only way to play with no sword. The wand is equal to the white sword.

I find the second quest to be easier without a sword only because you get the wand earlier. The wand can strike the enemies as if it were the white sword.

Mike Ive been watching your streams for a long while and this was one of my favorites. It's for many reasons, the fact that this is the second quest (which I never had the courage as a kid to play), its a no sword run (even cooler), you really struggled and it was fun to watch you figure it out (like we used to do), you really let loose on your chat (fuck em), and you played fuckin hard the entire time like a boss. Love yer shit man.

Mike really needs to learn the rules of the "10th enemy has the bomb" programming in this game. If you're counting the enemies you've killed (without taking a hit), killing the tenth in a row WITH a bomb is a guaranteed bomb drop, provided that enemy can drop bombs. Generally, the enemies who drop bombs are the blue variety in the overworld and the red ones in a dungeon. In addition, dodongo can be killed with one bomb and is a guaranteed bomb drop if a bomb is dropped to his side to stun him, then a single sword slice to kill him.

Nintendo desperately needs to remake this game, keep the difficulty but add a map and maybe a few extra hints so new players are less likely to get stuck. Like instead of saying “grumble, grumble,” the guy says he’s hungry or something to let you know you need to give him the meat. Also add a randomizer option for the game so you can play it like a rouge-lite or even a few more quest would be cool. Nintendo really could make this game the best 2-D Zelda experience by fixing some of the clunkier elements of this game.

There are some enemies that drop more hearts and fairies (peahats, zoras, and red lynels in the overworld; blue goriyas and blue darknuts in dungeons), some enemies that drop more money (ghinis, blue tektites, and red leevers in the overworld; ropes, wallmasters, stalfoses, and pols voices in dungeons), and some enemies that drop more bombs (blue octoroks, blue moblins, and blue lynels in the overworld; red goriyas, red wizzrobes, red darknuts, and gibdos in dungeons).

Oh hey I was playing this the other day and found a better way to deal with Dodongos. You feed them one bomb, and then you just put another bomb next to them once the first bomb stuns them. The second kills it, and it drops bombs. Sorry if someone brings this up later in the stream, i just had to write it before i forgot to.

I did a 3 heart run on 1st quest awhile ago... that was a huge challenge. Wondering if doing a swordless run would be easier or harder? I'm not doing swordless 3 hearts or minimalist run that's for sure.

Mike I had a Zenith wood tv growing up as well. Slightly different model than the one you showed. Used to play my Atari, NES, and SNES on it. Good times. I remember one time it broke so I had to play Mega Man on a black and white TV we had till we got it fixed.

You can still do a sort of swordless run on Link to the Past. You have to pick up the sword, sure, but just don't use it.

When they programmed the game at first they were only given half the code by mistake, when the guy that developed the code noticed this and gave them the other half they decided to make a second quest. The second quest is the second half of the game and the real game in my opinion. When you go to dungeon 9 in the first quest and rescue Zelda that didn’t really happen, the real one is in dungeon 18.

I've cleared 2nd Quest ONCE. Wasn't overly difficult but for the sake of my sanity I deliberately used a map on Level 9 because of how confusing that level is the first go round.

Hi Mike, I watched this video like if it was my favourite movie series. Actually, you should do a no-wand run, the wand literally killed the run. And with that I mean 2nd quest, no-sword and three hearts. But you can take the bow, nobody ever uses the bow. I think it should still be possible to complete the game (up to Ganon) with the bow only. That would be very interesting to watch from the beginning to the very end. I think a no hit run would probably be impossible, that would be like a world record.

I guess if you wanted to do a legit complete swordless quest of the game, get to Ganon, die, go get the sword at the beginning, go back to level 9 and Ganon again (still without using the Sword) and defeat him. LOL less than a minute until the video ended someone asked why don't you just get the sword and go kill him......

my fave game of all time for the nes i played the shitt out of it lol also zelda 2 as well just never played Gannon as i did not kno about it as not many of my friends had nes they got master systems and mega drive's i was the only kid that got all systems apart from ONE hand held system and a master system also never had an atari or a comador or old tape cassette systems either or floppy disk lol ans i had to save lot's of pockit money and had a few paper rounds to afford it lmao :) in order it was NES-SGA MEGA DRIVE-SUPER NES-SEGA GAME GEAR-SEGA MEGA CD-SEGA 32 X ADD ON-SEGA SATURN-NINTENDO 64-PLAYSTATION ONE--NINTENDO GAME CUBE-SEGA DREAMCAST-PLAYSTATION 2-X-BOX 360-NINTENDO WII. Mike, I don't understand why you're so angry during this stream! 😳😅 The point of this challenge is to prolong the game's lifespan for you, right? By getting to explore and learn new strategies? Sure, you have to redo a lot of things because you don't know everything from the beginning, but that's what you're setting yourself up for! ^^ It's not like you have a time limit in the game, and I don't think you're losing ANYTHING career-wise by streaming for longer! Rather the opposite! Of course it's also pleasing to many of your viewers when you get upset, but I mostly get a chest ache! 😅 I'm only halfway through of the video so far, but just had to say this!
