You need to make a checklist, have it laminated, and keep a dry erase marker with it that way when you prepare for "the move" you know it's all done...as long as you don't have to do it in the rain.

Zip ties and ratchet straps to the rescue! The newer generatons black tape and baling wire. I think alot of us would have to quit farming if they didn't exist!

Those new'ish tyres on your drill are amazing, all that weight at 50mph says to me that they're military specifications or something very similar. I remember the state of the previous set of tyres after just one trip to the North Farm, so the tyres you have now should be just fine.

Why do you choose not to grow cover crops? Seems like with the lower yields for consecutive years, your OM would be withering away. Also, I'm under the impression it can help conserve soil moisture. Nevertheless, it could be an informative topic of conversation on a long equipment move 😂 or during the off season.
@clearskiesranch13625 ай бұрын
Because that would require Mike to gain an understanding soil biology, plants, the carbon cycle and how they all interact instead of throwing chemicals and synthetic fertilizers at barren soil in hopes of forcing it to grow crops in a monoculture setting
@clearskiesranch13625 ай бұрын
To be fair I used to think the same way but after a few conversations with Gabe Brown and others I began evaluating my practices and changing them accordingly.
@P_Rund19525 ай бұрын
@@clearskiesranch1362 As one in the midwest US that has been using cover crops and NT for many years, it looks to me like the situation is very different there. Cover crops might use moisture needed for crops, and establishing a useful cover crop in the short season there might be very difficult. There might be other ways to build OM, but with the type of growing season they typically have, it might take something like years of rotating grass crops. Or even that might not work.
