This is the last video in the Turbulence build series. Finally able to get it out! For those wondering, Turbulence is still down. I am close to finding an engine for it, and then it will require a long road trip with tools and some long days swapping the engine out. I'm hoping after my house is complete to make it out there to do the engine swap. Don't worry though, we'll make a video of it! If I missed anything about Turbulence please comment below and I'll try to answer questions.

In the skies where winds do dance, A tale of Mike Patey, his plane's advance. Through turbulence, a daring flight, In the boundless blue, a fearless sight. Wings slicing through the chaotic air, Mike's spirit soaring without a care. His plane, a vessel, a fearless steed, In the tempest's grasp, a noble deed. Turbulence, a challenge embraced, Mike's courage and skill interlaced. Among the clouds, where storms do brew, He navigates with a heart so true. A maverick in the vast expanse, Mike Patey, a pilot, takes a chance. Through twists and turns, he finds his way, In the turbulence, a ballet in the gray. The air becomes a canvas wild, As Patey's plane, like a fearless child, Dances through the gusts and roars, Defying gravity, seeking more. In the cockpit, a symphony of might, Mike guides his plane through day and night. Through turbulence, a journey bold, A tale of aviation, forever told.

With Turbulence, you're not saving "just a little" each time you fly. You're saving several hours compared to flying commercially. On top of that, you can get into smaller airports closer to your destination, saving even more. All that while flying through the air at airliner speeds, except that it climbs to cruise altitude much faster.

Now the comment is " I'm willing to risk my life for a few miles an hour faster than the next guy and to feed my ego" I'm sure your lost friends felt overconfident in their planes and ability. I love all your videos, the engineering, the excitement, the fun. But something that you said here touched my heart and it wasn’t about aviation. It was about fresh water for the world. Our church adopted some villages in Gana, Africa, and when we first got there, the villagers were getting all of their water from an infested river. The digestive diseases they had were terrible. We were able to first supply water filtration systems, then rainwater harvesting systems, and finally fresh water wells. The change in their health has been amazing. Unfortunately there are places all around the world where the people are still drinking polluted water. Thanks to people like you, solutions are being tried to turn this around. Thank you for that, and for the great aviation content!!

Hey Mike! Love the extremes builds! Wondering if you'd ever consider a design challenge on something more approachable as a commuter aircraft? I've been thinking about how to build the lightest and fastest 4 seat plane possible with about 200hp. My fundamental thought process is to optimize for top speed and then add as much flaps and other retractable L/D as necessary to give it the largest flight envelope possible.
@TheJustinJ
@TheJustinJ 10 ай бұрын
An approachable commuter aircraft, and one of the highest performance possible on a given power, are mutually exclusive concepts. Four seats, instead of one will cost ~100ktas of top speed. An "approachable" commuter craft will land around 55-61ktas to be manageable, again costing substantially in top speed. If you want a 4-place, start with a Vans RV-10. Use a 4cl engine of 200hp. Reduce frontal and wing area accordingly to restore performance to original spec. Retract the gear or optimize laminar flow to exceed the basic 230-260hp Vans design.

It is always mind-blowing everything you do from an idea to its realization, the best inspiration in life, and "learning a little more every day until the day you die" has a very deep meaning. That's the beauty of this life. Happy holidays to you and your family.

Thanks for making this series, Mike. I've wondered many years of watching your videos about the details of Turbulence. Just got two "BACK TO WORK" t-shirts for my fiancé and myself, and they are awesome! Can't wait to see what you build next.

Congratulations Mike... And by the way, would you consider building a single turbo prop with two turbines (left and right sides close to the cockpit) racer? We love you!

He keeps pushing and pushing, sticking more and more power and going faster and faster, increasing his risk. He keeps spinning those pieces of cheese. Hope he stays lucky.

Mike thank you for sharing your life with us. I have been involved with the public address side of air shows since 1985 in South Africa. I have been told to leave in 2022 but have never had the privilege to see something like Turbulence. The fastest " Single engine" I have seen I have seen was a Lance Air. ( Excluding fighter jets of course 🤣🤣 I absolutely love your passion for aviation. Onwards to greater and better things from South Africa.

Forgive my ignorance as this vid just popped up and know nothing about this type of aircraft but some ww2 propeller aircraft went this speed (or close to) so is it that difficult as I thought turbo prop engine are 60years in developing speed and power ( I am not doubting this achievement I just wanted an explanation)

Mike thank you for letting us see a little piece of your incredible world. With the challenge that you have spoken of, of a airframe that has high speed yet can then turn into a slow flight aircraft in my opinion is the true need for the firefighting air tanker aircraft for the next generation. The modification of commercial jets to do the job is great for response, but speed reduction for safe application is the challenge. I can see your knowledge having such a huge positive impacts for the future of firefighting. And again thank you for all the positive impacts you have already done and continue to do. Back to work making flight safer.

I had always thought turbine were faster than piston engines. Steve Hinton has the piston record in his P-51 at 531.27mph (set in 2017)
