Thank you sir. I use dynamics processing cause that is what you told me to use in an earlier tutorial! I use all my effects in multi track and not in the editor that you use because I do not like to render the audio because I can't get the original back if I need to. I like using the curves they just make more sense to me but I will try to use dynamics now. Four years ago I had never mixed audio. Now I do all the time thanks to your tutorials. My mixes on a project was so good I actually got more work because of it so THANK YOU!!!!! My clients just love how my videos sound now!

I use both, processing to duck the music and dynamics noise gate set to the amplitude statistics scan value of the average rms. Both learnt from your good self, along with so many other great tips. Many thanks for all you do.

do a lav mic video as most creators use lavs to record audio
@MikeRussell2 жыл бұрын
Lav mics have their uses but you'll find a lot of content creators use full size mics

After the loudness wars, I die a little inside when people say, "compressor". It's not you, and I know there are plenty of legit uses for compression. It's just a "trigger" for me or something. Great video.

Your audio speaking and effects processing sound great. Can you set up a preset for me in Adobe Premiere? So I can record my voice and put your presets into the audio clip I just created? I'll pay for you. thanksI see on your website there are so many Adobe Premiere presets and I don't know which one to buy. and how to use them

Hi can I also use the same dynamics processing method onto a song?like all instruments already mixed then put the vocals on top of it?thanks
@MikeRussell3 жыл бұрын
You can apply the same but you'd want to apply it to the vocals only and then master the final mixdown of the song.

Hi Mike, love your channel and your videos. You're my "go to" man for all things audio. I have a specific question. I have a Shure SM7B going into a Cloudlifter. From the Cloudlifter I'm going into channel 1 of a Zoom Podtrak P4, and from there into my computer. I have a gain boost activated on the P4 which gives me my audio signal. My dilemma is that I use this setup for podcasting and for recording ACX files. The noise floor for ACX is a minimum of -60. If I set the gain on the P4 low enough to meet that threshhold, the audio signal in audition only goes to about -15 to -12, this seems to be too low for my podcast. If I increase the gain on the P4, I produce a higher floor noise. What approach would you take to resolve this issue so that I have sufficient volume for my podcast and but not an excessive floor noise for my other recordings? Thanks.
@MikeRussell2 ай бұрын
Thanks for your question! It sounds like you're dealing with a common challenge. I’d recommend experimenting with your gain settings while using a noise gate during editing to help manage that noise floor for your ACX files. You could keep the gain on the P4 set low enough to meet the ACX noise floor requirement and then use post production techniques to boost the audio signal for your podcast. Things like a limiter or compressor to increase the volume without raising the noise floor or use noise reduction tools to clean up any noise.

So i noticed in a past video you did for noise gates you scanned the audio to find average dynamic range, and bumped the threshold to that number. In this video i get its not a noisegate tutorial but i noticed you only touched the "hold" and bumped that up. Wondering what the go is there
@MikeRussell11 ай бұрын
In the past video, I focused on using a noise gate to reduce background noise, but in this video, I specifically wanted to demonstrate the differences between Adobe Audition's built-in Dynamics effect and dynamic processing, hence the focus on adjusting the "hold" parameter.

This is SO SO GOOD! IO was going to ask you about how I reduce the sound of my breathing in between phrases… but sounds like THIS is where I need to do this! Incidentally, Mike, is there a way to “tweak” the settings on the male voice in your presets? I bought them last week, love them, but can’t seem to tweak them (to reduce the volume of my breaths). Thanks!
@MikeRussell3 жыл бұрын
You can tweak any of the elements on the presets but I'd suggest taking a copy and working on that in case anything goes wrong

@@MikeRussell I saw the video but think i misslead you when i said "side chain" what i really was talking about was the icon in the dynamic prossessing (at the upper right corner that when selected/clicked in turns yellow and when fully side chained it turns green)... thats what i dont have...even tho i have the same settings applied here
