I fitted a Lucas RITA ignition to my MkV. It came complete with a pair of brand new coils, and it took about 3 hours to fit and set up. The bike ran great!

Yes the Rita was a popular system. Unfortunately, I believe that it is currently unavailable.

And it doesnt have the correct ignition curve for the big valve engine.
@stewartellinson88466 жыл бұрын
The RITA advance curve wasn't really a curve as such, more a straight line. It was a good system in terms of reliability but was very much a first generation electronic ignition. I like mine but am not blind to it's flaws. I believe that they are going to reappear but that might be one of those rumours that circulate from time to time. It's certainly good enough, IMO - a Guzzi is a racing tractor at best!

I have a dyna 3 and 5.0 ohm coils on my Lemans 1000, and it’s worked faultlessly for many years. My only concern was with the single Allen screw that fixes the rotor over the old points cam. It looked somewhat clunky, but hasn’t given any problems.

I have a Dyna 3 on my Spada. Excellent.

Hi Mike. Recently purchased an 'unloved' LM III and finding in the restoration process that as you have said, parts are hard to find. However, I have enjoyed you videos and look forward to many more.

I have two questions: 1. How do you keep your garage so tidy? 2. I wonder what part of the world you live in? I've been trying to work out your accent but with no success. The Guzzi Le Mans 1000 is very nice. Many years ago I had the original Mk 1 Le Mans which of course is very collectable now.

It's a curse in some ways, my garage has always been that way. I just can't work in chaos... I'm in Melbourne Australia. Our accent isn't as strong as those from up North in Sydney.

I have a brother in Adelaide. I've been to Adelaide once, next time I am in Australia I hope to visit Melbourne and Sydney. I live in Brighton in the UK actually. I enjoy your videos, do keep doing them!

He doesn't have an accent at all. 😉 Thanks for the video Mike. I just bought a Monza from Victoria into Tassie and am thinking of fitting electronic ignition. Cheers.

It's been a while now Mike, how's the Dyna holding up? Any problems? No regrets?
@MikesMachines Жыл бұрын
I've had no further issues with the Dyna ignition. The bike is still running perfectly. The original failure of the black box (replaced under warranty ) I'm sure was due to a faulty coil. The replacement Dyna coils seem excellent and run much cooler.

Mike, Ive cooked my Dyna. First ride out on LM for 10 years and it blew a dyna coil that went closed circuit and has damaged the Dyna box. If I swap the the low tension fire lines from the box it fires the other cylinder so Im guessing one channel is fried. Dyna now specify 5 ohm coils i think?
@MikesMachines6 жыл бұрын
Yes, 5 ohm coils only are recommended now. A shorted coil could certainly cause havoc with the extra current flow so I'm not surprised the Dyna unit blew.

Hi Mike, I have had the #2 cylinder on my 850 T die in a manner similar to what you described only my ignition was stock. I haven’t figured out the cause but I’m planning to install a Dyna 3 system. Has the problem reoccurred? Helpful video thanks.
@MikesMachines6 жыл бұрын
No, the bike has perfectly since replacing the black box and upgrading the coils.
@stephenlohman33116 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply, good to hear your bike is running well. I had upgraded to the Dyna coils and was working on solving the problem with the points/condenser or what ever was the root cause. The more I researched the problem the more it seems that I would have to find someone with a Sun distributor analyzer to really understand what was happening. Not much chance of finding that unit here so moving on the Dyna 3 seemed the best way to go. Then I saw your video, big help, thanks again. I've ordered the Dyna unit the T should be up and running soon. Regards

Hi Mike, what HT leads are you running with the Dyna coils
@MikesMachines3 жыл бұрын
Nothing special. Just aftermarket copper HT leads.

I just bought a LM1.2 1977 vintage. It has a Dyna III installed. Is yours still running well with the Dyna?
@MikesMachines5 жыл бұрын
Yes, it has been running perfectly
@mikelast79186 жыл бұрын
hi mike.....wouldnt mind some current feedback on this dyna 3 kit......are you still using it and are you happy with it?
@MikesMachines6 жыл бұрын
It's been fault free since the ignition module was replaced under warranty. I've also noticed improved idle stability and less hiccups on the road. My Le Mans needs it's valve guides done soon so it burns a bit of oil on overrun. I used to get miss fires after a long downhill stretch when I was running points but the Dyna system with its hotter spark just keeps going.
@mikelast79186 жыл бұрын
thanks....contemplating on getting them for my 1973 - v7 sports..... i would have to get the entire kit with the coils i think
