awesome video! thank you for taking the time to explain using the circle hooks. I'm getting lots of bites, but having problems hooking up. After watching that explanation I see I'm too impatient, and I'm not reeling enough before I take it out of the rod holder! also I was one who asked about the rod rails, and you answered that as well. thanks again!

When I live line like that I like to hook the bait behind the dorsal fin. It seems like I get more clean hook sets in the corner of there mouth. And in shallow water the bait stays on top flopping around till gets crushed.
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS6 ай бұрын
It definitely makes the bait more attractive. Both methods have pros and cons and I use em both. Dorsal hook is great in shallow water because the bait is near the surface, but not good in deeper water or hooking smaller fish. They almost always grab the bait headfirst which is great for bigger fish but small fish swim around with it only half down the pipe. Hook in the mouth keeps the bait oxygenated and more lively. It’s good for deeper water even without a weight, but it can’t compete with dorsal hook in water less than 15ft deep. It’s VERY attractive just under the surface. 👍👍. Great info brother!! I appreciate it! 😁😁🙏🙏

Hey Mike just wandering if you have tried out the new airmar tm185 medium ultra wide chirp transducer with 57-73 degrees port to starboard cone angle and how you think that will do for the striped bass in the shallower water compared to your 165 ultra high wide chirp 30 degree cone angle
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS6 ай бұрын
Not yet because the Simrad software needs an update.

Great video man. Any chance we will ever see 7’ striper stealth rods? I have one in 7’6” and it’s great, but too big for my rod locker.
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS6 ай бұрын
Great question. That’s a real possibility. I know that they can’t go longer because shipping prices are around double the price or so. I’ll forward your message over to them. 👍👍

I love watching your informative videos! I'm slowly building my Striper fishing gear arsenal. Snagging bunker on light freshwater gear was fun, but past rotator cuff surgery is hurting, so I'm ready to spend the $ for a cast net. For me, at age 69, do you recommend a six, right or ten foot diameter? You've helped me so much already! I'm hooked! I am though, not good with technology. How do I get to your links from your U-Tube videos? Mike G.

i completely ignore bunker that are in 30 foot or more of water , 15 to 23 foot is the sweet spot cruise down the beach with sidescan in that depth range.

Mike would you use spoons in fresh water lakes
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS6 ай бұрын
Definitely! 👍👍👍That’s actually where we started using them first. They were designed by a B.A.S.S. Pro named Ben Parker to catch Largemouth bass that feed on big Gizzard Shad. The top 10 for the following year or 2 was nearly all guys that Ben gave spoons to. 👍👍. Catch em all bro!! I’d love to hear your opinion. Thanks!!!!!🙏🙏🙏👍😁

I actually just use water on everything, but I sprayed Terragon ceramic spray on the outboard and it was pretty awesome. I think it’s called Mudslide. 👍👍

Is this method effective for Freshwater reservoir striper as well?
@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS6 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Just make sure the water is cool where the bait is popping on the surface. In the middle of summer you’ll see bait, but Stripers can’t handle 90 degree surface temperatures.
