Sorry, but the small wheels look strange and don't fit! They are too small and make the truck look like a toy. I really like your videos and have been watching them regularly for a long time, but the small wheels are, in my opinion, a bad decision..

hey mate when you get it with windows in just remember primer is not waterproof so don't leave Smokey outside when its wet till you get some paint over cab. Speaking of flat black I would throw on a coat of Black paint as a base coat to protect the primer..............paint it outside while the weather is nice (I used to paint my cars outside here in Oz in the evening during summer once the temp was around 22 to 27C)

First off I apologize for the long comment. It seems like once I start typing, I just don't stop LOL. What seems like small ideas in my head turns into REALLY long comments. He's lookin better. You can see the progress now. It's a roller, the glass work is done, and primered... It was a big project fixing all of the fire damage. I commend you for even taking on the project. It's been a long time getting here, but not only did you take it on, you have it pretty much finished, except for the small stuff and the paint. I've done similar kind of work before, and honestly I really don't think I would have wanted to tackle it. Maybe when I was younger, but as I've gotten older and have been dealing with health issues the last 5 years or so, I don't have the same energy level or enthusiasm that I used to have... I don't like saying bad things about peoples choices, but I think the front tires look way too small, and looking at it in the video, it doesn't really look like it has any rake, just really tiny tires. It might be more pronounced because it has the set back front axle, but I could be wrong... Didn't smokey already have polished Alcoa aluminum steer wheels on it when you got it , Or were those wheels 24.5's ? I agree with your choice for semi-gloss black. I use it on just about all the small parts that I paint black. The stuff I get is called satin black, but it's the same thing. The spots that were painted that were nice and smooth came out really good. The front side of the big panel should be smoother than the back side, but if you aren't getting the finish that you want, I would sand down the bad spots, and put a few coats of sandable primer on the parts that will show, and sand them smooth, then it should look really good. I know it's extra work, but considering the amount of work you have already put into it, it really won't take very long and I think you would be a lot happier with the final result... Better to spend a couple extra hours now, then looking at it after the interior is all put back together and wishing you would have done it, because your new interior is going to look really nice. Unfortunately you have to be really careful what you use to wipe down a surface prior to painting, because sometimes it will remove part of the paint but not all of it and make a really big mess... I don't blame you for not wanting to paint it in your shop. You have a really nice shop. That's a lot of material being sprayed. Especially when you figure the primer, and then the color coat, and it will be even worse if you use a base/clear paint. You could build a makeshift paint booth, but that's a pita and no matter how hard you try, you will still end up getting overspray on your walls and ceiling.

I don’t care @ all for the low profile tires and rims on anything. I would stay with the 1100 22.5 series on the front, but only if you have the same size on the back! If you have the 24.5 size in the back, I would keep the same size on the front! As far as the rest of it, it does look a whole lot better than it did- for sure! Keep up the great work!

I agree that paint should be the last thing you do. One of the things I like about trucks is that they're large, heavy and tall massive machines. I never understood wanting to lower a truck. Bigger is always better when it comes to machinery. I don't even like lowered pick up trucks. Good video, always like seeing progress. Thanks.

Hi Mike, Smokey's cab is looking great! That was a big accomplishment for someone who has never done body work and you should be proud of what you have archived. I'm not a big fan of low profile tires however. To me they work better on bodies that have been chopped and the K-100's wouldn't look right chopped. In fact the tall cab makes the tires look smaller than they really are. I would keep them on it to make the work a little easier, especially during the engine work. But after that I would go bigger. I think the rims look good but when Smokey gets painted I would swap them for the one's on Low and Slow. Those all red rims would would look great on Smokey! Keep up the good work and I'll catch you on the next video!

Hi Mike those look like the really lo pro tires. I think 11 22s myself. Ya know if you go to the dealer you work at they might give the friends and family discount, that would be a score by itself. You know they do great work. Always sounds like they can take whatever you want and paint it up and looks great. I see dad is there working on the Pete and helping out. The square bumper works for it but I think it is too low. Unless y’all got smooth as glass roads anyway. It’s coming along 👍

When you go for paint might I suggest keeping the current color scheme but do a stripe from grill around headlights back along sides under the doors all the way back but make that stripe Black or Bule if Blue then you would have a Red White and Blue truck get it.

Yes, lose the low pros before it hits the road. Also primer is NOT water proof, spray some inexpensive paint for the color you are going to psint it. Another point spray the window sill before installing the glass that way your paint won't have to reverse mask them when painting

Mike, like your work but - the body shop guys are not going to like you putting the glass in areodyne or will they like the windshield glass in and they will take to doors of to do a proper paint job so you need it as a shell only. If it was my truck I would get it running like you said and fit the drivers seat so you can test run it on the road, no interior, strip all the exterior parts of so it just a shell then paint it and get the body shop to paint the interior too. Then when it ready for collection fit the drivers seat, bring it home and then fit the interior and exterior parts. Cheers Paul (UK).
