It is stronger. Attacks, just like transformations have power multipliers. Tri-beam is among the strongest non god attacks in the entire franchise. Take a look at how Tien held back 2nd form Cell who is stronger than an unevolved SSJ by a wide birth. I don't see Kamahemeha, Mashenko or Light Grenade doing that. Oh wait Piccolo did use that on Cell... in his 1st form and it did nothing.

The Kikoho has to be the strongest ki blast by far. For Tenshinhan to hold Cell down for so long and to deflect Buutenks's blast (buutenks was ragdolling Mystic Gohan, mind you) that thing has to have at the very least a 200x multiplier. The Kamehameha is peanuts compared to that.

I just realised that dbs goku could've used the tri beam to beat jiren without accessing ultra instinct considering his ki control got better in the series I mean in gt the reason he can't use majority of his techniques is because of his child body that limits his capability and capacity to fight at his best also dbz goku in his fight with kid buu this could come in handy although goku haven't had better control of ssj3 at the time also if dbs goku did it it would actually make sense considering he started tournament of power and having him die for it to end would be a nice way to give redemption to gokus character in dbs I mean back when tien use tri beam against cell despite the difference in power he's manage to cause some impact on the villain imagine if someone like goku do something like that perhaps he could've beaten jiren with it without relying on ultra instinct

I really dislike how most techniques in Dragonball are completely commodified after their first use. Tien goes from “Life or death technique that I’m only using as a last resort” to “Ay lemme blast a hole in this iceberg real quick” way too quickly. Not to mention using it against YAMCHA during a SPARRING SESSION. A bit more respect is brought to it against Nappa and Cell, but it was too little, too late.
