Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference: 0:00 - Intro 1. 0:40 {Are Soul Ties Biblical?} What are “soul ties,” and are they biblical? 2. 18:00 {Has Jesus Always Been God?} Our pastor said on Sunday that Jesus wasn’t God here on Earth until the baptism of John and descending of the Holy Spirit. It sounded really bad to my ears. Can you comment, please? 3. 22:46 {Honoring God Regardless of Feelings} When I feel "good" I find myself doubting less, being more loving, and sinning less. How do I know if I'm growing in the spirit or if it's just my antidepressants making me nicer? 4. 26:44 {Witnessing to Muslims} How do you convince a Muslim that Jesus is more than just a prophet? 5. 30:31 {Did Jesus Overturn the Tables Twice?} Why is Jesus overturning the money tables in John 2 and not later when He enters Jerusalem (around John 11 or 12)? Did He do this 2 times and not just in His last week (Matthew 21: 12; Mark 11: 15)? 6. 35:06 {Did God Foretell Something that Didn’t Happen?} In 1 Samuel 23: 11-13 (ESV), the Lord says David will be handed over to Saul at Keilah, then David leaves town before Saul gets there, so he was not. Why did the Lord foretell a future event that didn't happen? 7. 40:28 {About the Cruciform Hermeneutic} What are your thoughts on the cruciform hermeneutic or cruciform theology? 8. 45:20 {Advice for a Tough Marital Situation} If my wife committed adultery against me and a child resulted from the affair, am I bound to care for the child? Why or why not, and how would I go about handling the situation after finding out? 9. 46:48 {Should Couples Promise “Till Death Do Us Part”?} In many modern weddings, people promise before God "till death do us part,” or something similar. Doesn't that biblically preclude the option of even a biblical divorce? 10. 50:16 {Why was the Cross Necessary if God is All-Powerful?} I have an agnostic friend who can’t accept that the cross was necessary. They believe God was not all powerful if He could not find another way of saving humanity without sacrificing Jesus. Thoughts? 11. 52:59 {About Jacob’s Wrestle with God} How do you interpret Genesis 32, when Jacob wrestles with God? 12. 58:50 {Having Insurance = Lack of Trust in God?} What are your thoughts on having insurance and medical aid? I've heard it said that these things are rooted in fear and keep us from truly trusting God. Is that a biblical/wise perspective to have? 13. 1:01:25 {What Kind of Jokes Fall Under “Jesting”?} I'm confused about “eutrapelia” and I don’t know if it is just crude joking or all jokes that word speaks of in Ephesians 5:4. I use the KJV and it just says "jesting." 14. 1:06:47 {Can We Rebuke the Enemy Ourselves?} Can we rebuke the enemy? 15. 1:08:38 {Are Flashy Lights Inappropriate for a Church?} My church recently renovated our hall to be more upbeat and have flashy lights. I'm extremely disheartened by this. Do you have any advice? 16. 1:13:25 {Slavery in the Old Covenant} How do we reconcile the treatment of foreigner slaves (not Israelite servitude) under the old covenant (bought as property, handed down to children, etc. - Leviticus 25: 44-46)? 17. 1:19:36 {Should we Only Have One Teacher?} Please, can you talk about what we should do when a spiritual leader wants you to only take advice from them and no one else, especially when the Bible says to have a “multitude of counselors”? 18. 1:20:55 {Why did Some Men in the Bible Have Multiple Wives?} Most of the men in Bible had multiple wives. Can’t you then say they lived in sin their entire lives? Many people say that continual sin doesn’t equate to being a true Christian. 19. 1:24:32 {Respectfully & Effectively Witnessing to a Boss} My boss is a leader in the LDS church. He is a good and friendly boss but calls himself a Christian. Do I have a responsibility to confront him, and if so, how do I do this respectfully since he is my boss? 20. 1:27:16 {Does 2 Kings 2 Challenge God’s Goodness?} My brother brought up 2 Kings 2: 23-25 to challenge the goodness of God. He saw an imbalance of justice when bears came to maul 40 boys for making fun of Elisha. How would you respond to this?

14) Luke 10:19 "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you." Amen Pastor, we have authority in Christ’s name only and through His word like Jesus did when He was tempted by the devil. When we submit to Christ like James stated the devil flees-that's in praying in His name and in reading His word and in praise and worship. We must stay in right relationship with God to claim our authority, glory to King Jesus. 1 John 1:9 🙏

QUESTION 4 - MUHAMMAD’S CATCH-22 Given the following set of claims: (1) Muhammad claimed to be a true Prophet of Allah. (Surah 33:40, 47:2, 48:29, 7:157, etc.) (2) Muhammad claimed Jesus was a true Prophet of Allah (Surah 2:136, 3:84, 4:163, 5:46-47, 5:56, 5:110, 19:30, etc.) (3) Muhammad claimed a true Prophet can not speak a falsehood (Surah 3:161, 6:93, 16:116, 29:68, etc.) (4) Muhammad claimed Jesus did not die on the cross (Surah 3:55, 4:157, 19:33) (5) Jesus he would die and be resurrected (Matthew 16:21, 17:22-23, 20:18-19, Mark 8:31-32, 9:31, 10:33-34, Luke 9:21-22, 18:31-33, John 2:19-22) Muhammad created quite a Catch-22 for himself. After all, *whether or not* Jesus actually died, Muhammad proved he could not be a true prophet. To see why, consider each case: Case A - Jesus did not die. I. Claim (4) above would be true. II. Claim (5) above would be false. III. Given Claim (3) and II. above, then Jesus could not have been a true Prophet. IV. Therefore Claim (2) was false. V. Given Claim (3) and IV above, Claim (1) was false. Therefore, Muhammad could not have been a true Prophet. Case B - Jesus did die I. Claim (4) would be false. II. Claim (5) would be true. III. Given Claim (3) and II, Jesus could have been a true Prophet. IV. However, Given Claim (3) and I, then Muhammad could not have been a true Prophet. Therefore, Muhammad could not have been a true Prophet. The interesting thing is, the only thing that must be established to draw this inescapable conclusion is Claim (5). You don’t even need to prove Jesus actually was resurrected OR died. All it takes is to show that Jesus claimed he would. Which only leaves a few options left, in order to avoid concluding Muhammad was a false prophet. 1. Deny the Gospel accounts completely. However, that doesn’t work, because Muhammad himself stated the Gospels were the word of Allah as well (Surah 3:3, 3:48, 3:65, 5:46, 5:66, 5:110) 2. Attempt to prove the Gospels were “corrupted” at some point after they were written. But this begs the questions, WHEN, and WHY. Note that Muhammad claimed that references to himself were found in the Gospels “in their possession” at the time Muhammad lived (Surah 7:157). So he endorsed what was in the Gospels in the 600s. If it was done after Muhammad made his claims in the Qur’an because Muhammad contradicted Jesus’ death, then there is clear historical evidence that these passages were not changed from manuscripts that predated Muhammad. These passages are found in the earliest manuscripts. If before, then the “when” and “why” questions become even more important. If by the original authors, then the Qur’an’s claim that the Gospels were the word of Allah was false, and that the disciples themselves were inspired by God (Surah 5:111, which would again be discrediting Muhammad as a Prophet if the disciples lied). If by anyone else, why? The earliest manuscripts have these claims, and the central focus of Christianity was always centered on the fact of the resurrection. Not on Jesus’ predictions of his death. It would add nothing to Christian theology or beliefs regarding Jesus’ divinity not even better established by the Resurrection itself.

I was on anti-depressants for 7 years, always feeling guilty as I was a Christian. However my walk was very compromised, so I rarely studied the Word. The Lord brought a Christian into my life that said, "My Bible states God hasn't given me a spirit of fear but power, love, and a SOUND MIND! Ask the Lord to show you His Will in this. Later I heard the Holy Spirit for the first time in a long time, say "Its time to listen...throw the pills away, trust in Me." I did, with no fear or side effects, and was delivered in one day of 7 years of depression, the last 3 years included suicidal thoughts. I have never felt so free, and I really know my Bible now! His promises are true, we have to trust!

I lost my husband to suicide in 2020! The pain I felt as a result of that abrupt and gut-wrenching ending to our life together was so profoundly deep that I could only describe it as having a part of my soul ripped from me, leaving a gaping hole where a part of me, ( my soul mate), once resided! All i could do for the first week was curl up into a fetal position and cry so hard that my heart actually ached with physical pain! I don't believe it's unhealthy to love your spouse so deeply, nor is it an unhealthy obsession to feel he was my soul mate. The scripture that says the two shall become one flesh took on a profound meaning after my husband died! I am recovering from my loss, but I will never stop loving and missing him or the bond we once shared.

@@jlev9513 Until you get a reply I'd say: So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. -excerpt Matthew 6 - words of Jesus Also: Now on the day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, a messenger came to Job and said, “The oxen were plowing and the female donkeys feeding beside them, and the Sabeans attacked and took them. They also killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” While he was still speaking, another came and said, “The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” While he was still speaking, another came and said, “The Chaldeans formed three units and made a raid on the camels and took them, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, and behold, a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people and they died, and I alone have escaped to tell you.” Then Job got up, tore his robe, and shaved his head; then he fell to the ground and worshiped. He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, And naked I shall return there. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Despite all this, Job did not sin, nor did he blame God. -excerpt Job 1 ***************************** The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. I’m so sorry, Angie! My sister also committed suicide in May 2020 just before her 48th birthday. When I heard about it, my heart beat so hard I felt I might have a heart attack, and my connection with her was, of course, not like one of a husband and wife! I can only imagine your pain. Though I think the ontology of spiritual soul ties is debatable, it seems obvious that we “connect” with people in our lives, some more than others, and when we lose those to whom we were connected more deeply, it certainly is going to hurt us more. But God, who heals, can bring healing and restoration and peace. I still sometimes think about my sister and ask why, and emotions spring up. She died having turned her back on Christ and pretty much was an atheist during the last years of her life. I don’t have assurance that I will see her again. That is what bothers me and my family the most! Let it be a reminder that each person has his/her own free will, and God does not seem to open the door of their heart, though he knocks, even if the door is even slightly open, I have now heard many testimonies where God came through.

To the question about taking care of the child that came from unfaithfulness, I had this exact same thing happen to me. I raised my daughter and dont regret it in the slightest. She is 14 now and she is also the baby of my children. Her biological father came back into the picture when she was about 5. When her mother came to me and told me that her biological father got in contact with her and changed his life in many ways and really was hoping he could get to know his daughter. At this time almost no one but family knew that she was not biologically my daughter. My thought was I did not have a father and I would have given anything to know my biological father, so I would not take that away from my daughter either. I allowed it to happen and now 9 years later she has a decent relationship with her biological father but still has a much stronger one with me. As a matter of fact she just left the house to go get a manicure done with her grandmother and she walked up gave me a hug and told me she loved me. Unfortunately me and her mom divorced a long time ago and it was the last thing I wanted to accept in the world but hey you cant make people do things. I do not see her any different than my other kids even in the slightest and I would never have done anything different.

It makes my heart sad anytime someone says they're on anti-depressants. I went through bad depression for 3 years and I never took them, because when I finally started leaning on God and re-dedicated my life to Him, I found that God is the best anti-depressant. I just wish every Christian who's struggling with depression could draw closer to God 😢 Believe me, He is the cure 🙏
@miekelenaerts9841

Not every depression has the same origin. Some depressions come forth from certain characteristics or ways of thinking, from bitterness,... . But there are also people that have a genetic/physical predisposition to become depressed. Of course one should always search their heart for possible causes for depression, but we should always do that anyway, depressed or not. I think it is wise to approach people in a careful way, that we should try to look at their life/circumstances/story/testimony , without projecting our limited knowledge and experience upon them. God is the Great Healer, but He does not always heal, or not always fast. Sometimes He needs to heal your heart/mind so your body can follow, and sometimes he uses doctors to do so. There's not one story or way here.

I fought taking antidepressents for over 10 years and just about offed myself trying to tough it out through prayer and my own steam. The AD's helped a lot for a few years and I wished I hadn't waited. It's still been a terrible struggle w/ decades of yearly depressions. I'm not sure what it is? My faith and resolve to serve God is very strong. God has suddenly healed other things. Mostly he hasn't. I just trust that God is sovereign. I can't help but wonder when I hear about miraculous healings from depression, why it doesn't happen for me. It is usually early in a walk w/ God, and most often right after coming to Christ though.

My understanding of soul ties has always been in reference to the "soul" (emotions,) not the spirit. An unhealthy connection that causes dependence, sometimes to the point of it being a disruption in our relationships to God. My husband's father died tragically when he was 2 and was raised by his aunt. His aunt was very close to her brother and transferred that to an emotional dependency on my husband as he got older. She was a believer, but really grieved her brother until the day she died. There was a lot good in her relationship to my husband, but it did create a subconscious expectation in my husband to be something to her that he wasn't. We would consider that a soul tie. On her part, repenting of that may have helped her live in more peace and freedom, and on my husband's part, understanding it released him of those unrealistic expectations he carried. It doesn't require any mysticism, there is a practical Godly way to deal with it like you said. I think we evangelicals just like labels and they always sound hyperspiritual. Simply, we should always be wary of anything that causes us to be more dependent on a person than on God, or to love anyone more. As far as having a soul tie with a child, even with all of my "spiritual understanding," that is something I had to repent for and make steps to resolve. As my children became adults and I saw them go through a season of doubt, it exposed my own heart. I came close to rejecting God if He would let my children go to hell, since they continued to struggle despite my prayers. The Holy Spirit showed me that I was loving my children more than Him. I repented, knowing that I had to choose the Lord no matter what my children choose. I then changed the way that I prayed, giving Holy Spirit more room to work in their lives and focused more on my own relationship with Him. Did I need to call that a soul tie? No. Anything we overmethodize or overspiritualize is dangerous. Most things can be resolved with true repentance when we are wrong and forgiveness when we are wronged and then live in accordance with both.

Yes, Mike defined soul as spirit and then treated it as something transcendant and real rather than a creature bonded by emotion, fear, false love, or idolatry. I could pray for God to deliver me all day from a compulsive disorder, but the healing won't come until I release the judgment at the root of the "necessary" behavior. I have walked with people out of so much bondage. The name "soul tie" is just catch phrase for being held captive and held in bondage. It is very biblical and the only cure is laying down our life for Jesus and discovering it in Him. The Blood applied saves us completely: but if we don't walk in this, we don't know it.

We apply it by asking God to heal our unbelief. Submitting to the Truth and being willing to strike down every lie that exalts itself above Him. When the judgment is struck down, the lie has no power and falls off. We are saved by Jesus but we can keep many of our bad judgments that lead us into suffering and foolishness. We have a choice in the matter that will effect our fruitfulness and closeness with Him.

For me, I found the deeper in the Bible I got the more I wanted to read it. Then continue to seek answers to any questions you have.

Even though a "soul tie" might not be the perfect definition, there is a form of bonding that happens when a couple has intercourse and sleeps together. They even went as far to tell me I had a darkened area in my heart, leading to a "demonic" deliverance of sorts.. the individual cast out the .. "demon"....I played along .. as they questioned and rebuked the demon, this and other manipulations of others in the "Program" lead me straight out of there.. In Christ our hearts are filled with the Holy Spirit and sealed. And what God calls clean is clean. There are individuals there to this day trying to get delivered after 5 years. 😢

Sorry you went through that deception. Deliverance ministries are not biblical. If you're saved and born again with the holy spirit inside you you cannot be demonically possessed and when you were born again the holy Spirit is inside of you and you're already delivered through Jesus Christ. Now as Christians we can suffer some oppression or spiritual attack and all we need is Jesus for that. We just pray to the Lord for help and protection. We don't need a minister any Deliverance ministry etc

My sister had just told me to break soul ties with a believer friend who'd had open heart surgery, because my blood pressure was high (I was just sick, nothing major). I said I'm not sure I believe in them. Two of my sisters advise cutting soul ties often and I know one does deliverance. I'm not saying it's wrong, I just want to understand. Examples are if they speak to my Catholic mother or a friend or family member or anyone you've ever had sex with. I could only find the David/Jonathan connection, which seemed weak. The topic of soul ties was brought up, so I started asking questions. from the "ABC Test" (Affirmative, Biblical, Christ-like) it seemed okay, so I went for it. While they were praying over me, the prayers seemed more like a spiritual renewal. It was less about breaking ties, and more about Inviting Jesus' healing spirit.

HI Mike - Interesting that you are tackling this question this week. I was just thinking about this issue last night. My understanding of Soul Ties is that the soul that is referred to in Soul Tie is our emotional selves not referencing necessarily our essence that outlives our physical bodies or our eternal selves. -- My experience is that sex is a very powerful connection - even when you don't want it to be. Even long after I ceased to have sexual relations with an individual I was convicted to have a spiritual authority break the spiritual/emotional connection. This was before I had ever heard any teaching on the Soul Tie doctrine. I don't understand the spiritual mechanics of this and I can also understand why it is challenged from a biblical standpoint. I know at least one epistle talks about inordinate affection and perhaps that is where a "Soul Tie" is born. I also think that the Saul of the Old Testament had a soul tie with Samuel as he depended on Samuel for his spiritual life rather than depending on God Himself as David did as Saul feared men rather than God. I think any time we are connected more or dependent more on men than we are on God repentance is needed. The question also touches on a Spiritual Authority. I vacillate between whether Spiritual Authority is biblical or not. An epistle also references "You who are spiritual restore such a one." I do think letting go of things and people are difficult ~ It is very difficult to abandon yourself to an unseen and often silent God. It is much easier to incline our ear unto people and hold on to practices or relationships tighter than what makes us wholly yielded to the God of Heaven.

6-12-24 Mike, Jesus has gifted me with the ability to see into the spirit realm. I can see inside my spirit and outside like in the air so to speak, when HE opens up the spiritual side. This is all for warfare and awareness issues? Not for play. Anyway, I’ve seen many demons on like quarter mile running tracks stacked 3 high in the blue sky. Another story. Soul ties. Someone desiring you to some degree or closeness is all I can discern. I got close to a lady and in the spirit realm in my bedroom I could see my room filling up with smoke or fog. After I asked GOD for forgiveness and stayed away from her in the natural the fog went away and I didn’t think about her like before. And I could also tell from which direction the fog was coming from entering my room. I can see angels, demons, and the presence of GOD as he moves. HIS presence changes forms as needed. If people are praising Jesus HIS presence will rest ontop of the people, etc. or during prayer in a room HIS presence will start to increase. Demons a whole different story. I’ve had multiple encounters , but let it go for now. You’ve got great preaching. J

I first heard of that concept in a book I read and then I attended a church service a few weeks back where the pastor did a whole sermon on this however he didn't give too much scripture to even back up Where the idea was coming from. I still really wasn't understanding it because without the biblical foundation for it it wasn't really making sense to me. I started to think that it may not really be biblical but more of a made-up concept but I didn't know if I was the only one thinking this.

“For man is going to his everlasting house, and the mourners turn round in the market. Until the silver cord is snapped, and the golden bowl is smashed, and the pitcher is broken against the well, and the jug smashed at the pit. And dust returns to the earth as it was, and the life-breath returns to God Who gave it.” (Ecclesiastes 12:5c-7) Interestingly enough, a ‘silver cord’ connects the spiritual to the physical body. One might think of it as an umbilical cord between the physical body and the spiritual body. In physical death, the silver cord disconnects from its insertions into the physical body. When my cat died, I could sense a very real connection from my heart to his spirit. Whenever I think about him, this connection is immediately felt again. We still share a very strong bond, except now I am the only one who can sense it, as I am still alive.

When kids get hit directly by God’s judgment or are seemingly collateral damage it becomes easier if you understand God knows all so he already knows what the outcome of their life will be even with their free will because God is beyond our understanding of time. God already knows if someone is going to be Godless their entire lives. God also knows if they are believers and even if God takes them early their reward is Heaven and thus not a bad thing.

About ten years ago at a church my husband and I had been a part of for about 2 years the pastor said during a sermon: "Jesus did not become the messiah until he was water baptized. That's when Jesus was accepted by God the Father." Red flags went up immediately in our minds. We began to search this out this out and found the Adoptionism teaching. One of the Scriptures that helped us with this was in Luke 2:26-32 about Simeon who was in the temple at Jesus' circumcision at 8 days of age: 26And it had been revealed to him [Simeon] by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ/ Messiah. Luke goes on to quote Simeon as he holds Jesus that He has now seen the Lord's salvation and can depart in peace. We explained to our small group leaders our concern and exited that church (about 500 people attended).

I wouldn't be surprised if some people use the term "soul ties" in the context of attachments. There are many kinds of attachments people may have... often a combo of emotional, psychological and spiritual. These can be good or bad, depending on the context. I am careful re: praying alone with guys for this very reason since prayer can be a very intimate thing. In a group context, it's different because of the nature of any attachments that may or may not be there. It is entirely possible some people use it in strange and unhealthy ways. There is something to be said for recognizing attachments and evaluating whether those attachments are healthy or unhealthy for our spiritual, emotional and psychological well-being (and for those around us) and then sorting out how to or not to manage those matters. Seems more like a counselling management issue and sorting out how to deal with certain relationships than something that is specifically biblical. Whatever the case, it seems like something where discernment would be necessary and much would depend on what it is one defines as "soul ties". There is definitely a different level of connection between someone a person has had sex with and someone a person has not. That could be an issue. Fortunately, God can help people work through that.

What if the tangible thing is co-dependence and the spiritual thing is a soul tie? I become hesitant when people define the logistics of the soul tie because how would we really know? I think sometimes our conscience can tie itself to things that maybe aren't healthy for us and we can begin to have adverse effects because of that. Getting a prayer for deliverance from a soul tie could be beneficial in just resetting the conscience to say "ok i keep thinking i have this soul tie but it's not true because i know i prayed that prayer in faith to be released from that" I think that's why it's dangerous to teach extra biblical things and traditions as if they are commandments because if my conscience is suffering for something that it shouldn't be, then it's easy for the enemy to keep me bound.

Witnessing to Muslims: 30:17 Lloyd de Jongh is the best source for understanding Islam at a higher level than the average Muslim. From what I've seen his information is at too high a level to be directly employed against Islam, but it's very useful for understanding the underlying worldview in which Islam can survive, which can be helpful in poking at underlying issues instead of a direct approach. From my observations, trying to get a Muslim to convert is a long game, and not one that everyone needs to win. Just get in the game for a few plays and see what a difference you can make. You don't need to know what they believe, you need to know what you believe and why. Once you know what you believe and why, you can ask questions and answer questions. Even if your answer is just to say, "Let me ask my pastor," then you do it and get back to them, that helps. I was raised nominally Christian on Sunday mornings and agnostic the rest of the time. I was completely agnostic by the time I was 20. It took me about 5 years to believe that Jesus is Lord and the Bible is true once I started applying my autism to trying to figure out why existence is. I already had a Christian morality and grew up with a vaguely Christian worldview. When you're reaching out to Muslims, you're not just asking them to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, you're asking them to reject their entire worldview. Everything they've been told about Christianity their entire lives is a lie. Everything they believe about right and wrong comes from a dude who, by his own words, couldn't tell the difference between the words of God and the words of Satan (see the Satanic verses). You also have to keep in mind that if they leave Islam, they are apostate, and the punishment for apostasy is death. Even if they're in the west, and their family won't physically kill them, they'll likely never speak to any of them again. In trying to save them, you're asking that they give up everything. In Matthew 10:34-42, Jesus says that's a good thing, so do it, but understand how hard your goal is before going into it so you have proper expectations for the work it will take.

Pastor MIke, thank you for this one!! It might be worth noting that "soul" in the OT is translated from the Hebrew _nephesh_ , which is the literal word for "throat", also translated in different contexts as "living being", "creature", "heart", "persons" and more. It's a concept distinct from "spirit", which is translated from _ru'ach_ for "breath." This is what God "breathed" onto/into humans to make them alive in His complete image as the crown of creation. When the Shema tells us to love God with all of our soul, it's not talking about offering our whole immaterial self (although that's certainly included in the entire picture); it's a charge to love Him from the depth of one's _person_ . (Note that the throat is also the gateway for what comes into the body and what proceeds forth from the body in communication.) I'm thinking of this regarding Jonathan's soul being knitted to David. It doesn't have to be spooky, does it? If we conflate the terms, we wonder if this means that an immaterial core of each man was somehow tied to the other, but if we honor the language we might say that Jonathan's affection for and commitment to David was so deep, that part of his fundamental sense of self became linked to honoring and serving his dear friend. So sure... call it a "soul tie" if you want. But if I have a "soul tie" that needs breaking, it's not going to be about superstitious rituals to free my spirit. It's going to be about properly reorienting the core of my person toward what is good and right. As in, don't allow your marriage to be threatened by flirting with a private obsession over previous romantic interests. Let them go and be fully committed to your spouse with integrity from the deepest part of you. Don't worship your kids, but love them as a proper steward, keeping the Lord as the highest One who orders your other loves appropriately. It may take deep work, pastoral guidance, and even responsible therapy to separate your "soul" from the wrong aims, but it won't take a spiritual ritual.

In case anyone finds this helpful or is interested in praying for our Christian ministries/leaders/shepherds/evangelists/apologists like Mike Winger: 16 prayer points you can pray for them: 1 You can pray that they will always have a good walk with God (that they will not forget their first love), that God will bless their daily private Bible reading and prayer life, and that they will have good sound doctrine. 2 You can pray that they will be full of the Holy Spirit and that God will bless their ministries so that many more people will come to faith in Jesus for God’s glory, and that they will feed God’s sheep and disciple them properly. 3 You can pray that they will be humble, that they will remember how many Christian leaders in the past have fallen, and that they will have a very healthy fear of the Lord. 4 You can pray that God will protect them and the ministry God has given them from: Pride Love of fame Love of money Desire for the approval of people rather than the approval of God Being worried about offending people Compromising God’s Word Sexual temptation Demonic attacks Persecution (from outside the Church and inside the Church) 5 You can pray for their PHYSICAL HEALTH and that God will heal all their health problems. 6 You can pray for their MENTAL HEALTH. Pastors and Christian workers often have stress and battle discouragement and depression. Please God touch them and heal them of all mental and emotional problems and distress. They can also sometimes be hurt by the people they serve or by other Christian leaders - so we can pray that this won’t happen but that if it does that God will heal these wounds and strengthen His servants to forgive each other and that God will restore unity for His Glory. 7 You can pray that God will bless and protect their families. Satan often attacks Christian workers by attacking their loved ones. So you can pray that their family members will all have a good walk with God, have good sound doctrine, that God will protect them all from demonic attacks, that God will also bless and protect their physical and mental health, heal them of all infirmities, and that God will bless all their family relationships so that there is peace and love in their families. You can pray that God especially blesses and protects all areas and parts of their marriages, so that they will not be tempted to look elsewhere. Also please God bless their marriages especially so that they can be a model and example for other Christians. 8 You can pray that God will abundantly bless and protect the finances of the ministries and also the personal finances of God’s servants (especially finances needed for health or medical expenses). You can pray that they always have abundant finances so that they can always do every good work God wants them to do. 9 You can pray that God blesses and protects the relationships between Christian co-workers in ministries - so that no jealousy or strife or bitterness takes root. That they will all have Christian unity and that their focus will be on God getting all the glory and rejoice in any and all work for God. 10 You can pray that God prevents any technical or logistical or legal or any type of problems for their ministry, but if they have any such issues/problems that God will help them resolve/fix and totally solve and remove these problems. 11 If it’s an internet (e.g. KZbin) ministry you can pray that God will help the videos spread on those platforms and get many views and that God will use the videos to bring many people to repentance and faith in Jesus. 12 You can pray that God will help Christian leaders be good shepherds of Jesus’ sheep and continue to feed Jesus’ sheep, and that they will not only convert people, but also disciple new converts so that they can grow and develop and mature in a healthy and supported way. 13 You can pray that God will give them the heart of a servant. 14 You can pray that God gives them wisdom and helps them and powerfully guides them when making all decisions and plans. 15 You can pray that if they make mistakes or sin that God will grant them humility and repentance and restore them. 16 You can pray that more Christians will pray consistently for Christian leaders/pastors/shepherds/workers/ministries. *********************** You could make a list of pastors/ministries you want to support and pray for them regularly. Jesus said: “ when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:6

13 more BIBLICAL prayer points for praying for the LOST: Jesus and Paul actually told us specifically what to pray for on several occasions: 1 “pray for us that the word of the Lord will spread rapidly and be glorified” 2 Thessalonians 3:1 ------- 2 Jesus said we should pray for more labourers. "Then Jesus said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore PRAY earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”" Matthew 9:37-38 Jesus said: “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore PRAT earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." Luke 10:2 ------- 3 We can pray for more opportunities to share the Gospel, and for God to open more doors for effective work: "pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains." Colossians 4:3 “because a great door for effective work has opened to me” 1 Corinthians 16:9 ------------------------- 4 We can pray that God will give us all the right words to say. "Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel," Ephesians 6:19 ------- 5 We can pray that God will give all Christians the boldness to share the gospel. "Lord... grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness... And when they had prayed... they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness." Acts 4:29-31 ------------------------ 6 We can pray that Christians will speak boldly RELYING ON THE LORD: “they spent a long time there speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord” Acts 14:3 ------------- 7 We can pray for God to draw more people to Jesus and to grant more people to come to Jesus. Jesus said: "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them" John 6:44 Jesus said: “No one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.” John 6:65 -------------------------- 8 We can pray that God will REVEAL the reality and truth about Jesus to more people. "Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not REVEALED to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in Heaven." Matthew 16:16-17 "At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and REVEALED them to little children." Matthew 11:25 --------------------------- 9 We can pray that God will teach more people. Jesus said: "It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him COMES TO ME." John 6:45 -------------------------- 10 We can pray that God will open more hearts to attend to His message. "The Lord opened her heart to attend to the things being spoken by Paul." Acts 16:14 ------------------------- 11 We can pray that God will open more eyes to see and open ears to hear so that they would turn to God and God would heal them. Jesus said: "I send thee (Paul), TO OPEN THEIR EYES, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me." Acts 26:17-18 “while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand….. OTHERWISE THEY MIGHT SEE WITH THEIR EYES, HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART, AND RETURN, AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.’ But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.” Matthew 13:13…16 “The hearing ear and the seeing eye, The Lord has made both of them.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭20:12‬ ---------- 12 We can pray that God in his mercy and generosity will bring more prisoners out of spiritual dungeon into the freedom and light of Jesus Christ. “proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.” Luke 4:18 “a light to the nations, To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the dungeon And those who dwell in darkness from the prison.” Isaiah 42:7 ---------- 13 We can pray that God will grant more people repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth: “in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth” 2 Timothy 2:25 --------- 14 We can pray that we will have more of God's love in our hearts for the lost so that we will not be afraid to share the Gospel, but that God's love in us will override any fears and make it automatic that we share the gospel in love. If there was a frozen lake, you wouldn't want to go swimming in it. But if a small child fell in, you would automatically dive in to save them. We can pray for love that will cause us to act. ------------------------- "Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful." Colossians 4:2 Jesus told us multiple times throughout Scripture to watch and pray always.
