Restaurants should know better than to tell Mikey that something he orders is "too big" for him to finish 😂
@Goldenkitten12 жыл бұрын
It's a big thing is South Korea (a lot of pan-Asian nations really but Korea is extreme about it) to have no food waste. Restaurants will literally refuse to make an order they think is too large for the party no matter how much the customer protests or how much they stand to make. There are exceptions of course but most sit-down restaurants like that won't just suggest you can't eat that much but outright deny access to it.
@Peyton12182 жыл бұрын
@@Goldenkitten1 I like the idea of no waste, but I always order more than I want for leftovers and that'd make me sad.
@MinecraftMasterNo12 жыл бұрын
@@Goldenkitten1 Haven't been to Korea personally so I can't say much about that but this is definitely not a thing in Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore or Philippines. People might look at you weird if you waste food but restaurants are still businesses, they'll still sell you the dish lol.
@Goldenkitten12 жыл бұрын
@@MinecraftMasterNo1 South Korea is the big one where this happens. However I've experienced it in Thailand and Vietnam as well, particularly the latter where it happened at least 5-6 times we went out. Edit: Though yeah it's definitely not a thing in Japan.
@MinecraftMasterNo12 жыл бұрын
@@Goldenkitten1 I was born and raised in Vietnam. I have never in my life ever been denied food in a restaurant because they thought I couldn't finish it. I don't know where you went to eat but I suspect there was some misunderstanding on your end.

Italian food, especially pasta, has been on the rise in South Korean since the 2010 hit drama "Pasta," starring Les Sun Gyun and Gong Hyo Jin. One of SK's premier Italian food masters, Sam Kim, was not only the technical advisor to that show, but in many of the close-up shots, those are his hands making the food. HIs restaurant, Buonasera, is considered one of the best in the country, and every chef in the country wants to top him. Professional pride, you see. All that has meant you've got tons of cooks going hardcore into honing their craft for years, and that makes for a dining paradise.

I find that sometimes the Koreans overload the pizza with toppings and it all just slides off. I watched one last week where every square inch was covered in overlapped pepperonis. It's kind of a fun food fantasy but in practice it's simply too much. 😐

Can confirm. In SK since like the mid 2000s pizza franchises like Dominos and Pizza Hut in the forefront started this trend of putting the most ridiculous toppings and coming up with new concoctions like every other month. I remember eating a pizza loaded with king crab and monster prawns dubbed the Poseidon pizza or something. I think these all evolved from that.

Asia is not all the same you know. If you slurp pad thai in Bangkok or mei fun in Singapore the locals will definitely think you’re crazy. Korea is similar, they don’t like slurping either. Koreans are always telling me that I'm ordering too much food. One time I was meeting my friend but I was early so he didn't come yet. But I got a table for 2. I ordered a large pizza, Caesar salad, buffalo wings, and a coke. The waiter was shocked saying "that's way too much food for 2 people!" And I had to explain "uh that's just for me. My friend will order his food when he gets here" and sure enough he arrives a few minutes later and ordered a large pizza and salad and beer for himself. Of course we finished everything...

@uho35782 жыл бұрын
For most people it's helpful to know that you won't order too much and waste food and money. I think it's quite considerate for a restaurant to give you portion suggestions. Of course they would make more money if they let you order however much you want, but they're looking out for the customer this way.
