I was about to give up on learning this stitch because I just couldn't understand it but then I discovered your tutorial. Thank you for explaining the three rows and when to do opposite stitches. I would add the last row of sc/ stitches to make both ends uniform but you don't have to I suppose ...cathy@ the crochet crowd help desk :)

I USED THIS PARTICULAR STYLE OF STITCHING TO MAKE HEADBANDS TO PUT AROUND YOUR EARS IN THE WINTER TIME. I HAVE SOME PEOPLE WHO DO NOT LIKE TO WHERE HATS JUST SOMETHING AROUND THEIR EARS SO THIS HELP ME WITH THAT PROJECT

I use to do this when I was younger but using 5 front 7 back, then switching after three rows. try it and see what I mean, another basket weave look. thanks for this one...I also did this when I was knitting by knit 5 purl 7 for 5 rows then switching purl 5 knit 7.

Ok after redoing it again and playing around, I figured it out. In case anyone else is having the same troubles, what worked for me was to NOT chain up three in the end when Mikey tells us to hold the chain second from hook and chain 3. When I chain 2 instead and go into that second stitch from the hook it works perfectly. I undid and checked twice, that way works. :) Quite confusing, but a great learning process haha!

I realize I am kinda late with this request it maybe helpful to many other crocheters. If you would be so kind and demonstrate how to increase and decrease when you teach new stitched and or patterns. I am about to try to figure out how to do both with this stitch. I guess to increase ch 5 and to decrease do a decrease by 2 on both ends till the group of 4 8s gone. What do you think

If you were doing this for a round hat would you still need 5 stitches at each end? Have you done a ribbing video? Would that look good to do a ribbing with a basket weave hat?

This is a great tutorial, but I've always made a mistake so far while trying and I can't figure out what it is. I've undone it three times already, starting over from the chain. I'm sure I counted it right, 5, sets of 4, 5 again, mark 2nd stitch off the hook, chain three, into that stitch etc, half doubles as first and last ones, and my first row of DC is also 5, 4..., 5, and yet I ALWAYS end up with one post stitch too many in the end, so I basically get 5 post stitches plus the side stitch.
