Here, Crash demonstrates some classic programmer screwups: 1. Assuming the player will never manage to get *more* than 100% of the boxes. Result is that someone who does accidentally stumble upon an extra box is punished (they can't get the reward for 100%, even though as far as they knew they did get them all) and annoyed and assumes you miscounted. A simple "boxes >= total" instead of "boxes == total" would have solved this. 2. Allowing game state from one mode to carry over to another mode. In this case, controller state from "title screen" mode can be carried over into "demo" mode, allowing the player to take control of the demo that's supposed to ignore inputs. Similar bugs can be seen in Mario Land 2: the "Mario is in a pipe" flag isn't reset when using start+select to exit a level, nor when entering another level, allowing that state to be carried over (it should have been cleared in the "map screen" or "level loading" modes), resulting in Mario suddenly dropping through the floor. 3. Failing to consider all possible state transitions: the combo count resets when Crash is in the "standing/walking" state, but it's possible to go from jumping -> crouching -> jumping states without ever entering "standing" state, thus building endless combos. (#1 applies here too: don't assume players will never reach whatever insane combo. The counter should have had a limit.) 4. Simple failure to enforce constraints in all situations: the lives counter overflow. The 99 limit is enforced by the "give 1up once animation finishes" routine, but not by the "give 1ups for any 1up animations that haven't finished yet" routine when exiting the level. (That routine ensures you don't get ripped off and lose a 1up because the animation hadn't quite finished.) Of course, when you consider that Crash used literally all available memory (4 bytes of RAM free!), it's not surprising that some glitches slipped through, since there literally isn't room for even one more institution in the program!

MikeyTaylorGaming a lot of games have glitches involving changing game mode (e.g. entering/quitting the title demo, getting a game over and quitting, exiting a level) at the exact same time as doing something else (pressing a button, using an item, dying, hitting reset), because they fail to clear the state associated with that action. Other examples: Back in Time in Zelda games (reset + game over), small Fire Mario in SMB1 (take damage + clear the level)

Rena Kunisaki As for #1, I believe it's coded that way because in Crash Bandicoot 2 there was one level you got a special gem in for breaking 0 boxes. In that case, a specific value may have been more appealing. That over 100% box count glitch is also possible in Crash 2, which makes me think they share the same code.

Spyro, crash bandicoot and bomberman are some of the very few games that i simply can't forget. I still have the first three spyro games and also the three first bandicoot games in good condition. Even though i can't play them anymore they hold so many childhood memories that i can't get rid of them. Had Saturn bomberman but the console broke down, realy sad moment. Games in the 90s and early 2000 were quite something else. Sure a few good games are still released but back then there were too many good games to afford buying. As of now i will wait for doom 4, seems to go back to it's roots and a map editor built in which is cool. Great video, so much nostalgia!

In Crash 2 there was a glitch for me where I would get stuck under the ground on those levels where you can spin and drill yourself into it. I couldn't be hit, and could travel across pits and go into walls. When I pressed jump to get out I'd fall under the map and die. It was a really long time ago.

there's a sawblade glitch in lights out and fumbling in the dark I can't seem to find it on youtube but bandipedia states : 'There is a glitch in this level where if Crash enters with 2 Aku Aku masks and does not die, then towards the end of the level one of the swinging blades will be swinging backward and forward instead of side to side like normal. This does not always happen however. Fumbling in the Dark has a similar blade in the middle of the level.' would be interesting if someone documented that

You can also gain 2 bonus crystals by completing the first polar bear run over and over again, the crystals are sent to the next two levels un-done, regardless off the stage, I have done this twice, one by accident when farming for lives and the second on purpose. I have not tested it at max crystals though.

The spin-jump glitch exists on all three of the original trilogy. In Crash 2, you can combine it with the High Jump (slide/crouch + jump), and in Crash 3 you can combine it with the High Jump, Double Jump, and Tornado Spin.

JoeyGaming no. You can do this in Crash 3 as well, and one of your double jumps can be it. Spin while you're jumping to get extra height.

You can use a double spin jump (or maybe only a regular spin jump is required; I don't remember) to get back up on the Triceratops ledges (it doesn't do anything, not even hurt you, and you can't go back because it's in the way). A more useful application for the spin jump in Crash 3 is to get over Dingodile's crystal barrier before having the double jump (since, of course, you don't get the double jump ability until after beating him).

For the tribesman fire glitch - The reason you can move while your on flames is because the game dosent expect you to die because the tribesman pushed you , and they asume your still alive but when you become into dust it recognizes that you lost a life.

There is one more glitch. I was a tester for Sony on this game in 97 (yes, my name IS in the credits) and I told the coders about it but they didn't fix it. In the Warp Room, If you Slide Jump into the left side of The Pits (Level 4) doorway area where the rock is over hanging at the bottom, you can again, get onto the outside of the Warp Room. You can actually jump up ONTO THE TOP of the Warp Room and even drop down into the hole in the middle. Pretty fuckin nifty!

One thing to point in the Bye Bye Blimps glitch, if you grab the box gem but not the crystal before leaving the level, you'll still keep that gem even when you're booted back to the start of the game. Just finish another level to see it added to your total, thereby saving you a very slight amount of time the next time you enter Bye Bye Blimps.

There's another glitch I found in Crash 3. Normally, once you get all the Crystals in a Warp Room, those levels become closed off until you beat the boss. This is because the developers only thought of two outcomes of a boss fight: Victory or Game Over. However, if you enter the boss level and then quit from the pause menu, the previous levels will reopen despite the boss not being beaten! This means you can get the 100% ending without watching the any% ending! I can confirm that it's a glitch because Wrath of Cortex doesn't do the same thing. Those levels won't reopen without a fight... literally.

I had distinct memories of reaching the red gem without going through the secret portal as well as making that wide jump to the left at the beginning of the ruins level. What's interesting about the Powers glitch is that you still have 0%. The extra 5% actually comes from defeating the bosses; the Powers themselves are worthless in that regard. This is also true in Wrath of Cortex, where there are 6 Powers, but the Super Belly Flop is on a Gem Path and doesn't contribute towards your percentage.

Some Snow Go infinite combo hints: ~The combo total you have to reach _I think_ is 375. I double checked with a memory editor on an emulator ~You can move while crouched and your combo will not go down ~If you accidentally jump early and do a spin and crouch to land again and hit the 3 seals, they will not go towards your combo but the combo will not break ~The first seal does not contribute towards the combo. Just the last two. Good luck!

An interesting note in the Crash 2 200% glitch: if you look at the pause screen, you'll notice there are 58 clear gems tallied, and 64 gems total. Yet 58 clear + 5 colored = 63... so where's the extra gem coming from? This, to me, suggests that the orange gem from Crash 1 was originally intended to return, but was cut pretty early in development (as evidenced by the fact that it's already gone with nary a trace by the time of the earliest available prototype, a full two months before the final version). However, the devs never bothered to remove its special coding, figuring the player would never be able to collect it legitimately, and so this "ghost orange gem" remained all the way up to the final release.

the extar box gltich can be done in cold hard crash, play the level up to the bouns round but NOT get any check points, while the bouns total is still adding die and you will be sent back to the start with all the box you have so far and you can re collect those boxs and if you do it right, you will get the box gem and have no need to go backward threw the death route in order to get the box gem

It might have been mentioned here already but there was a glitch in Crash 1 where in Lights Out, instead the axe swinging from side to side, it swung backwards and forwards. Also, I had the too many boxes glitch in 'The Pits' level in Crash 2 once. No idea how I did it but I remember it not being from a bonus level.

In the second Crash Bandicoot game, my sister and I collected all the diamonds apart from the last one. We played through the level, and completed it. But something weird happened.. We didn't get the diamond we had collected. Has this happened to anyone else?

thank you for this video and you are right crash warped has so much back tracking wtf the first video game i ever ever owned for the crash series was warped the greatest game from the crash Etmology of the 7 main core crash games crash bandicoot 1,2 cortex strikes back, 3 warped, 4 cortex wrath, 5 twin sanity, 6 crash clash of the titan's and 7 mind over mutant. i enjoyed 3 very much and this glitch defiantly helps beat crash warped on the playstation 1 and playstation portable.

I saw many glitches (and knew about these) but it's a very good video (You showed glitches in details, some of them I didn't know and, plus...) and it even contains new info: 1. You can keep combo sitting/crawling (spinning before it, of course) 2. You can make camera move in bonus glitch in Piston It Away by super jump. I reported to Bandipedia and probably I will post it on CM forum (already posted in .ru community group). Don't know should I say or not about my channel, there's glitches and hacks, but maybe it's too deep for man who knows some more games than the crash bandicoot trilogy contains.

I never managed to spot the glitch regarding the Green Gem in Crash 1 on Bandipedia either, the one where you can jump through the ceiling of the 'Castle Machinery' level. The Castle M. glitch is known - search in KZbin "castle machinery glitch". Is another Crash video possible? There's also exist rather epic, but not very known glitches, as: cb2 - you can ride jet board not only on the water cb2 - you can play jetpack levels without jetpack cb3 - you can play one Egypt level as squashed [flat] crash cb3 - you can go out from Cortex Boss arena and see it from a distance or an angle.

Jetboard glitch - search in KZbin "air crash massive glitch". Glitch with walking without jetpack - search in KZbin "rock it pack attack epic glitch" (it's my old video). About playing one Egypt level as squashed crash there's no info yet.

The tribesman making you rotate in the fire might be because you're knocked back and given velocity without player input, if the fire is programmed to stop player input but not to get rid of their velocity maybe that could case the rotating to happen. I'm not good at programming and this is just my hypothesis , what do other people think?

I think it could be that when you get knocked back by a tribesman, player control is disabled for the duration of the knockback, and enabled again afterwards. If getting burned uses the same variable to disable player control when burned, it could be that the ending knockback animation can enable player control again even after getting burned.

Hey Mikey, I did some experimenting and discovered you can finish the demo of Bye Bye Blimps, and when you do you're awarded the Crystal/Gem and thrown out of the level in Warp Room 4, forever trapped because the Warp Room doesn't open up. There's also another glitch that I heard about from someone else about a week ago: if you start the game fresh, and when the game finally loads up and gives you control, immediately turn the SFX all the way down to 0. Then, go into Bone Yard and intentionally Game Over. On the Game Over screen, Uka Uka will never show up, and if you wait 10 seconds once the screen appears and then press Start, the game will begin to enter the pause menu, but then freeze. Long post, but I thought I'd let you know!

There are other games you can control the demos in as well, you're not meant to but you can. I can think of Doom off the top of my head. Guess they figure moving game assets is easier than a recording, but that just leaves possible way to take control. They can't think of everything I suppose.

+SMALTV Yeahh Back when I made this episode there was still no real direction! I was making a whole series of games fit into one video which limited what I could show off quite a lot. Admittedly, even now I don't include every glitch in a game even if it's one game per episode, but that's just because they'd end up being wayyyy too long, I like to keep them between 10-20 minutes to stop anyone getting bored! :) Thanks for the feedback and I hope you enjoy if you're sticking around! JeraCyclo Daniel I actually used an Emulater for the PC called 'ePSXe 1.9.0' and recorded the screen using Camtasia Studio I believe! The screen is 1080p so it defaulted to that for the recordings, just as I planned :) Glad you learned some more cool stuff!

oh wow i had considered it was a rom being played on PS1 emulator hence why when i tried to use my capture card with my PS2 and crash 1 the quality wasn't the best but i never thought the it had amazing quality, ill have to look out for it some time soon thank you for the names of the emulator and the screen recorder, i will have a look to see if i can download them thnx again

That's ok! I have stopped using Camtasia Studio though just so you know and started using Bandicam as it's not as hungry for processing power, allowing the games to run quickly whilst recording still! :)

I found a glitch in crash 2 its hard to do tho so backtrack where the spinning moving platforms then on the second or first anyway slide spin jump and you will fall and you would usually die right? (yes) but you will still be alive you can even get back on to the platforms by slide spin jumping it's Also very important to not go back or left or right or u dead (the level is ruinator

not sure if its been comentated but you missed so many. in crash 2 there is the box dupe as well and the neutral slide spin. in crash there is the neutral slide spin and neutral slide jump. in crash ntsc and ntsc- there is a glitch in the two secret levels than gives them the time trail time of there level where you enter it. the 200% glitch also exists with the same method. in this case it can be done in tiny's boss arena. there is also glitches to makes levels buttons spawn for the secret levels and a random extra level

You know the seal glitch when you get all crystals? You can do that in warped when you fight tiny tiger, all you need to do is jump on the tigers and kill enough so that you start getting crystals. You obviously don't kill tiny tiger or the mission is completed.

There is a pretty easy glitch in level 17 and 20 dig in to the ground and sometimes you can go into the wall on the sides and you can go through pits and if you go back to the dirt and jump up it sometimes kills u

I have a glitch to add for crash 2. So in the level bear down, I would be playing normally and then go to jump over a pit. The first time this glitch occurred, crash "whoahed" and the whole game hardlocked (froze, but the music/sound effects were still playing). Don't know if it happened because my disc is scratched or what, but it's infuriating because I cannot complete the game because this happens every time I try to play the level.

There's another, not-so-helpful glitch in Crash 2. After a bonus level, if you get a Checkpoint Crate before the Box Count has finished updating, and then lose a life before the next checkpoint, some of the bonus level boxes will not be recorded as "broken", and it will be impossible to get the gem until you go back to the Warp Room. The easiest level to do this glitch in is Diggin' It (17), but any bonus level with a lot of boxes and a Checkpoint immediately after it will do.
