Funny. When Mato asked at 2:06 "what is the best square for the bishop?", I was like "well, I would have to think about it a bit. However, I think the bishop may have gone to take the pawn on e6. Just because that's something I think Tal would do.

The bishop sacrifice is quite common in the Sicilian Najdorf. Tal continued his attack with precise moves and the belief to checkmate the opponents king with reduced material.

That variation at 4:05 - Wouldn't Nec7 fork both rooks? And even if Rc8 to pin the knight, you would take the rook on A8 and be up on material by the end of the exchange.

Your videos have changed my perspective on chess somewhat, never played official chess or something only personal friendly games. Always thought it was more about how many pieces you had and trying to corner pieces to take them at low cost, but this is all trivial. I see now that I always played way to defensive and lost a lot of games due to this. Only 2 things appear to matter the most, developing all of your pieces into open play and exposing the king of your opponent by knocking down the defenses or not allowing him to protect his king. Very interesting, will try to play differently from now on.

@Gamer2O12
@Gamer2O12 9 жыл бұрын
You pretty much have to sacrifice the bishop, its for 2-3depending on variation(lets say 2.5 pawns) and bringing the king out in the open is totally worth half a pawn, especially since white have lead in development. Doing passive move like Bishop b3 is a mistake i think, he will trade all he can trade and castle, and your lead in develpoment will dissipate into thin air. Black would have won the opening this way. This lead in development its going towards possible sacrifice out of the opening.
@Gamer2O12
@Gamer2O12 9 жыл бұрын
if you wouldnt sacrifice the bishop then instead you could consider playing f2-f3 instead of Rf1-e1. Its much safer and stronger central structure, with all your pieces being free to move wherever you want, and it costs only 1 move, where Re1 doesnt cost a move(since you are develpoing a piece), but weakens f2 and removes f2-f4-f5 attacking possibility(among other things), basically its an inferior move to f2-f3 with exception that you get an extra tempo. So if you dont go for sacrifice bishop vs 2.5 pawns(or something similiar) youre losing most of your initiative.

Tal has taught me to disregard the safety of my pieces. let those bastards die for the cause. just recently trapped my dark square bishop to open up a massive advantage for me killing pawns and regaining pieces i've lost already. it's fun now because I don't care whether my pieces live or die
