Tal was such an imaginative and amazing player. His approach and style of play added fun to the game of chess. His daringness on the board is what drew me to studying his games. Fischer and Tal are my favorite GMs. I enjoy the style of commentary in your videos, MatoJelic. Your explanations are playful, yet simultaneously concise and helpful. I chuckle when I watch your videos because they make me think of the Count from Sesame Street teaching chess. Thanks for your videos, and keep up the good work.

Bd5 was not difficult to find because it's a common way to open the e file in this position when the king is still in the center. But the next move Nd5! is just amazing. It is not everyday that you see a bishop and a knight sacrifice themselves on the same square in turn !
@jessschwartz58559 жыл бұрын
Mato, i'd like to see a game where Tal loses. He always finds these sacrifice moves and never pays the price for his sacrifice....amazing

Tal is much like Afro Samurai in that his only movement is forward. I usually bring my pieces back when they are attacked and I have can't defend them properly but Tal just throws them into the frey and charge forward - that's what puts him in a different dimension
@landrover10129 жыл бұрын

I would have liked you to elaborate a bit at 2:35 and explain why the situation forthcoming would be decisive for white, what chances Tal'd have (as the world's least talented chess player among mankind (excluding the insane), I personally don't see that it is that straightforward) there must be a lot of interesting, challenging possibilities that would spring from this position, maybe including attacking over the King's side!

@joshmyer390610 жыл бұрын
I think this is my favorite example of what happens if u put a pawn on e6 before u fiancetto that bishop. its a wasted move against someone who knows what they are doing. For anyone who thinks this opening unusual -- this used to be a very standard line of play for black. This game totally changed the way Sicilian is played.
@pierforce1210 жыл бұрын
why at 0:52 black doesn't play b4 to push the knight back and win the pawn on e4?
@olojoh10 жыл бұрын
Maybe of Qf3 implications... pawn must move forward again to defend... No development.
@mickee10 жыл бұрын
there were a lot of variations where white could be having a hard time after those sacrifices. i just couldnt get into it too deep. im actually not satisfied with the variations you showed in this video. but nevertheless, i still thank you for posting this video.

Tal played with a fearless and ingeniously creative spirit. Today's top players simply play not to lose. Like Tal said "To play for a draw, at any rate with white, is to some degree a crime against chess".
@gulsenbello17897 жыл бұрын
By going over so many variations instead of just showing the game as it was, Mato confuses the play. Perhaps he should also not get excited at some places & move the pieces slowly.
@JoseSalazar-vs8zw10 жыл бұрын
With Mato commenting chess, anybody improves his chess skills.This is a good example of the Sicilian.I use to play this defense and it is a good one.I think it is the best answer 1. ...c5 against 1.e4.Black has to be very careful in the aperture defending right and then counterattack, I mean when both players have a good understanding of the game.
