It's interesting IMO how standard Tal's opening games are. He almost always plays the standard moves in the openings. Probably hasn't finished his vodka yet.

Simagin deserves much credit for fighting so hard in the end, where most of Tal's opponents resign very early. Local newspapers wrote that the room became so excited by this fierce chess battle that other players began throwing their pieces at each other and even broke some chairs. The police were called in to quell the riot and allow Tal to finish the game. Okay, I made this up but it might have happened.

We had to guess the move 8 times, if I counted correct. Tal is probably the most impredictable Grandmaster I've ever seen. So many sacrifices, and moves that look like blunders at first sight, but they turn out te be pure attacking genius after all...

Delightful. I've seen this game is the basic positions we should start from. As Kasparov said in his first book "The Champion Teaches Chess": When studying openings, you have to start by using the open ones, then the semiopen & finally the closed. As the King's Gambit is hyper-open then we start with KG positions; in this game arises a KG-like position, so knowing KG is so helpful as we meet hyper-open positions like this one. Magnificent game for a beginer as this is the king of first positions he should learn.

A brilliant but not crushing win by Tal. After capturing black queen, material was still equal. Amazing how many times he pulled victory from the jaws of defeat. Often every other move than the one he makes are losing.

A great game and a great lecture! Just wondering (and there MUST be something I do not see): why, at 7:36, after Black's Re8, didn't Tal move his queen to g6? The only defense for Black would've been ...Bd4. c3:d4, and Black can do nothing to prevent Qg7#. What am I missing?
