Bhai Surjan Singh - one of the greatest Ragis and human being who devoted all his time to Golden Temple....such was his devotion that he didn't have enough time to earn by doing kirtan at private functions...eventually when time for his daughter's marriage approached, he let upon God to arrange for the marriage ceremony of his daughter's marriage....When his wife asked him to do kirtan for some private functions, so that they can earn better to arrange the marriage in a easy way, Bhai Surjan Singh denied and said that all of his time is for Shri Harmandir Sahib...When sangat came to know about this situation, they arranged everything in such a great and robust manner that the marriage ceremony of Bhai Surjan Singh's daughter was one of the greatest in Amritsar's history, which even the richest of businessmen coudnt afford.

I grew up in Punjab 50+ years ago when I first heard Bhai Surjan Singh ji's shabads and I was instantly hooked to his melodious voice, probably the best of all the ragis. I recently came across his Shabads on U-tube but always sang all his shabads anyway. I did not even know that this great voice had no sight. I felt really bad but then again I think Waheguru took his eyesight but gave him this great voice. Love all his Shabads, always have......always will.....

God blessed soul, melodious and a unique legend, who will be remembered for generatation to come by listening his mesmorizing voice, first thing in the morning by Sikhs and Gurbanis listeners around the globe. I wish we have more Raagi Singhs, with this much calibre to soothe our souls with Amrit Baani. I am really fortunate to enjoy Asa Di Vaar by Bhai Sahib Bhai Surjan Singh Ji and his Jatha. I had chance to listens to his other shabad Keertan, which is also very amazing.

I heard this shabad in my heavenly dream long time ago, and I didn't know who sung it. Then several years later someone gave a cassette for mp3 conversion at the Gurdwara. As I think the source of these recordings should be HMV, which was the only recording company of gramophone records at that time. We should be thankful to HMV for preserving our heritage. Bhai Surjan Singh, Bhai Gopal Singh, Bhai Bakhshish Singh have been very melodious Ragis.
