My experience of the fourth month Milan Art Institute Mastery Program, which is Part 2: Mixed Media! With 17 Tips along the way and I show you all the assignments that we did in Section 1, section 2, section 3 and section 4.
I started the program on January 1st 2024 and hope to finish by December 31 2024!
We learned different techniques for mixed media paintings like oils over acrylics, inks, mark making and spray paint! Aside from that there was a lot of soul searching of what defines us as artists, finding our style, our voice. I share struggles and successes - I hope you find this useful! Please comment if you have questions or requests for art tutorials!

I learned this trick with painting walls: to avoid the bleeding under the tape, try painting over the edge of the tape (the side that’s on the paper) the same color of the paper (most cases white), and wait till it’s dry.

That is an awesome trick - I totally see how that could work. Thank you so much!⭐️

Your work took the "darn" out over the thought of using spray paint. Very nice. Loved seeing the 3 stages.

Having just discovered you, I'm so glad you've just posted this new compil of tips, and yes, it's another really good one (I took notes). In answer to one of your questions, I find it's not so much about the price of the tape but the way you remove it. Use a hairdryer to heat up the glue as you are pulling the tape, slowly but firmly, so that you don't rip the paper. Instead of gloves, you can rub soap into your fingers and scratch a bar to get it under your nails before you start the session. Loved the advice about being selective when buying spray paint, I haven't got to that stage yet in my own work and it totally makes sense. Thanks again and a speedy recovery from the op. Looking forward to the next update :)

Thank you soooo much! The input on the tape is awesome and I will try it for sure! Also the soap, makes perfect sense, and it's a great alternative because I don't like gloves at all.👍😘

Hi Kate.. i use painter's tape. If it gets stuck, i use a blow dryer to melt the glue and it comes off. Love to see ur progress. Im still in part 1 sec 3, as i work FT. Thx for ur videos 😊

Hi😊...cover the edges of tape where it meets the paper with gel medium. Wait untill dry and paint as usually- no bleeding, guaranteed. Speed recovery❤.

What do you prime with before using arcyclic?
@katjart3649
@katjart3649 2 ай бұрын
I usually use a white or transparent Acrylic Medium, or simply acrylic paint diluted with water (acrylic matte medium or acrylic gels can also be used as primers). It depends a little how well pre-primed the canvas is that I am using.

I love your videos Katja and your paintings are so beautiful😍. I hope you surgery went well and that you are "running" around again. I am also an abstract lover and try to paint. But I also struggle with just paint what i want.... nope doesn't work. I have to have something to paint from and it bothers me so much. If I was rich, I would definately join the Mastery Program, not because I want to be a fulltime artist ( I am on pension because I have back problems) but I really want to learn. I have just started trying painting with oils on acrylics, how do I find out how much of the painting and where to paint oils on top???? Hope you can help me on that. Regarding you question on how to keep you drawings safe, in Denmark where I am from, we have a Portfolio breafcase. I will try to find your email and send a picture there.

Ooooh you are so kind, thank you! Yes, indeed I am running around and painting again, and the question of how much acrylics until you move on to oils is individual. But guess what - I will address it in the next video, because it came up for me as well. I would be interested in the Portfolio briefcase. I will google the term and maybe find something. Btw I looove Denmark! ♥️🇩🇰

Bless your heart, I hope the surgery goes well! Are you finding it hard to get out of your comfort zone?
@katjart3649

Thank you! The surgery DID go well and I can't wait to hit the studio again. Well... I think the more often we get out of the comfort zone the easier it gets! And it is a bit of a personality question - are you an adventurer who needs new input frequently, or do you like to rest in your safe space and prefer not to be "shaken up" all the time. I am somewhere in between that I believe. What prompted you to ask that I wonder?

@@katjart3649 So glad surgery went well. Hope you heal quickly. I asked about comfort zone because of something you said in your video. Some days I feel adventurous but most of the time my comfort zone wins out. I don't care for acrylic paints and actively avoid them. Not sure if this program would work for me. I have never done collage or abstract either. Oils are my comfort place.

Oh well then maybe you really don't "need" the program! I think a lot of people who are drawn to the program are so because they haven't found their voice, and with that comes also their preferred materials. It was one of the big plusses for me that I would get to try out everything. But then maybe for you it would make more sense to take an "oil painting mastery program" of sorts, or maybe you don't need a program at all! More power to you! I think there is a difference between having found your yumm-place and staying in that zone because it is authentically you, and staying in a false-comfort zone out of fear and laziness. Only you will know 😉

Hi, I appreciate you sharing. I started the program late and then we moved after 35 years in the same house. So I'm so behind. And I planned on being ahead of the game. life happens!

Oh well you know, it doesn't matter!!! I wanted to stay on track for personal reasons and the fact that I really need to find out what to do with my life (financially, especially). I also know that once you get off track it is much harder to keep going and actually finish it - but not at all impossible. It is also great because you don't loose access. So I'd say consider it on hold, but come back when you are ready...
