If 600 grit or equivalent scotchbrite is used, primer isn't needed to "fill grooves", just for paint adhesion. If the painti is scuffed instead of aggressively sanded, it can be repainted without priming using the same type of pain, just as you would co!orcsand an exterior finish beween coats. In this case, care must bde taken to limit overspraying the edges of the parts, as buildup may cause a tight fit and lead to chipping. If sanded down to bare plastic, you have two other options. Duplicolor has spray paint specifically designed for painting plastic. Several companies make vinyl paints aka dyes to match a wide variety of interior auto finishes.

Great job Milano. I did this on my dash and a few select pieces in yellow over gray in 2005, it is 14 years old. Still looks better than good. I may redo it because better products are avaiable today than 12 years ago. A quality paint, good color coordination, makes your vehicle uniquely yours, and I am 50 years older than you.

Great job, great video. Would love to know what your cost of materials is. Tools make a world of difference and the orbital makes the job MUCH easier but, I am more curious what the line up of chemicals cost. Great vid, let me just make a couple of suggestions. If your plastic trim piece is flat it is ok to sand however if you have a textured piece like out of a fox body mustang don't sand it; you will ruin the texture. Also, when you de-grease your piece prepping for paint preparation consider wearing gloves to protect your hands and the piece from the oils in your hand that you are prepping.

It is to make the panels 100% shiny and remove the orange peel that was created when spraying the panels.
@Jfresh557 жыл бұрын
Phly if you know anything about detailing, you would have known that. do you know what orange peel is? sanding levels out the peel, then to restore the shine, you buff it out

just a friendly suggestion when your painting dont just spray a half of it. you need to do long sweeping sprays and that will prevent any imperfections aswell as sanding by hand is a huge part. using a grinder even with the pad can still cause flat spots. Looks awesome though! nice vid

@nomadMik4 жыл бұрын
In US English, 'shop' means a workshop like an automotive place, not shops for shopping, as in standard English. So while you won't have to pay anyone to do the work in a 'shop', you will need to spend a couple of hundred dollars at a 'store'.
@nomadMik4 жыл бұрын
@hermes trismegistus It apparently wasn't obvious to 2T, which is fair enough… it's startling what a media bubble the US is in. I've lived here for over 20 years, and I'm still find things most people don't realise are unique to the US.

why are you using 2 primers? 1 is enough :P and you really didnt need that many coats of primer, its not a sandblasted car so 2 layers of primer would be enough. and also sand down the primer with a really fine wet sandpaper before spraying your collor :) and also dont do those small back and forth motions, do complete crossings over the whole peace, better results that way
@jasonwade39338 жыл бұрын
All he had to do was wet sand , the lacquer that he put on, he did not have to go all the way back to the silver, he had an existing red match all ready , all he had to do was Sand back some of the locker with wet paper and then go right over with the better lacquer that he, wanted totally made a meal of it , and not everybody has the money to be paid for more primer more red paint and so forth! Or he could have triad tried to buff it up with the compound in the first place he might of got the result That he Wanted ?

Did a good job explaining, but several suggestions having restored car interiors for over 40 yrs. One wear gloves, you don't want to get the body oils or anything else from your fingers on your cleaned surface. Otherwise you can have fish eyes and adhesion/finish issues. Start with washing and drying with mild dishwashing soap. then clean with wax/grease remover or similiar product. You then clean with isoprophol alcohol and 3M scotchbright blue pad to prep clean/surface of any remaining crap. Last after cleaning you really should use an adhesion promoter for hard plastics, it chemically and at a molecular level preps the plastic to accept the paint for better adhesion. If doing a textured surface. Also if your just re-coating or part is molded in the same color and using the same color you can skip the primer coat or just lightly fog a primer coat on. Same with the color coat thin coat to cover primer and give correct color to part otherwise you'll loose the original grainy texture and it'll look painted

Very well done. My only criticism is using different brands of materials on the same project. While primers, color and clear coats should all work together if they are the same type of material in real life it's not always the case. But... good job!
