The mod matrix is amazing as are the effects (I also love my Take 5’s reverb), and as you saw the effects parameters can be modulated. One feature you didn’t discover yet is Low Split, which makes the smaller keyboard less of an issue. It’s a great feature I wish more synths/keyboards had. Next you need a Take 5. The teo-5 is my personal choice for the breakthrough synth of the year and we had a lot come out this year. I prefer this unit to the ob-6 for several reasons. 1. Waaaay better oscs that are more harmonically rich than the ob-6 due to multi selectable fixed osc vs the variable design found in modern machines. 2. The envelopes are modeled a bit better on this unit due to the ob-8 modeling. I still prefer the x/xas exponential curve but the ob-8 has nice envelopes and I’m glad they chose it. 3. The mod matrix on this unit really encourages the Oberheim ob lineages sonic aesthetic to be pushed in ways that have never been touched. I’m glad you got your hands on this unit and I’m sure you will put to great use. The take 5 and teo are the best beginner synths for someone that seriously wants to get into synthesis.

You might want to look inside the synth too..😉 The OB6 build quality is better and has separate discrete Voice cards for each voice so very easy to replace and higher quality.. The TEO 5 is like a very cool small OBX8 sounding Oberheim with interesting modulation.. The OB6 is very sweet and unique in its sound it´s a different modern version of Oberheim and Sequential combined thats we love it. I´m not saying the TEO 5 is bad its fantastic! Its just that the OB6 will remain a modern classic that was a once in a lifetime collaboration between Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim.. Very Special! and because of that collab and influence we get the birth of the little TEO 5! everyone wins!
@MrCowfood4 ай бұрын
@@nagchumpalot I’m not sure I agree entirely. I’ve owned an ob6 desktop for years now, and I think based on solely YT demos the teo 5 might actually top the ob6. Firstly, it has through zero frequency modulation or tzfm I guess peeps are saying. This opens up a lot more timbre options vs the ob6. 2nd, if by discreet voice cards it becomes a better build? Cards are replaceable when or if in stock no? Same with full boards etc. As you mentioned, modulation is off the charts on this thing…. All this to say I also have an obx8 - I am going to sell my ob6 for a Teo-5, I think it’s that good!

UBXa is an abomination when it comes to that keybed, and yes it's not always about voice count when you have a SEM filter and all that modulation to play with. Let's not forget that horrible red display on a flagship synth. Fwiw they've dropped by almost 20% here, they can't get rid of them.

I haven’t played a UBxa yet so can’t confirm but from KZbin demos I agree!
@payt014 ай бұрын
I have an UB-Xa, and after the last update (V2.0) there have been a lot of improvements. Being a clone of the OB-Xa, it is a much simpler synth with just an LPF which you can switch between 2 and 4 pole. It does sound very lush though, and having 16 voices gives you a lot of freedom to play what you want without having to think about voice stealing too much. The polyphonic aftertouch is the icing on the cake. The keyboard does feel light, but it's entirely playable for me (though I usually play it through my master controller, which is the hydrasynth 49). If the keyboard is a big concern, then you can always get the module, which saves space as well.

@@danielguerrero5122 no it's a poor synth with poor quality keybed that Behringer calls a flagship synth, they got the T mixed up with the P. It should be called "flagshit" synth. Man, this is a great sounding synth. Part of me wonders whether I'd be fine with selling my OB-X8 and having this and something else for the same money. I imagine the 5 voices would feel like too much of a limitation. Definitely would have been a genuine option if this had also been available when I was considering my OB-X8

I was in the same situation, that is why I went MUSE / TEO-5. But will wait for the other OB comparison videos. I can still get the desk version of the OBX8 instead of the TEO-5.
@devinbelangermusic4 ай бұрын
Yea I thought the same thing. But nah, 8 voices of OB is just too good. If they made a 16 voice polyphonic Pro 3 style synth with this filter and workflow, then maybe I would be tempted to sell the X8…
@justaregularrobloxplayer56784 ай бұрын
@@devinbelangermusic that is good to know. Thanks, I think the TEO-5 is or was an opportunity to test the waters. But as you mentioned if they would have made this into a proper 61 key, 8-16 voices poly with split/layer, bi-neural, poly AT. The OBX8 would have been in trouble. I love the OB sound, and the reason why I am on the fence of getting an OBX8 is, yes due to the sound, but also nostalgia. I used to own an OBXa, Yamaha CS60, Jupiter 6 (with the Europa mod), and a sequential Pro 1. Sold them all about 15yrs ago. Do I regret it, maybe but mostly due to the resale value and the collector aspect. But the reality is that the bench time and money to fix them + the months you have to wait was more of a hassle than enjoyment. Too expensive, big and heavy. The reality of all is that I only used the OB for pads, sweeps and some strings. That is my nostalgia. On the other hand seen what the TEO-5 can do despite not having 8 voices, and the shortcomings of the predecessor including the OBX8 makes me reconsider if I want to go back to the limitations of these synths or do I want to go and beyond and explore more rather than a nostalgia flinch. That is quite a dilemma. And No the obx8 does not sound the same as my old OBXa. Nice recreation of having all 3 in one box and the closest we’ll ever get to the real vintage ones. These are wonderful times for synths, there is so much out there to choose from. Can’t wait for your comparison videos. Thanks

@@devinbelangermusic I'd say the place to start is looking at images of their internals and then the signal routing. I'm sure you know, but others may not: the OB-6 has an independent circuit board voice card for each of the six voices, whereas the TEO-5 is "all on a chip". As far as signal routing, like the Take5, the TEO-5 has digital VCAs (and the analog distortion is also digital in the TEO-5 - still sounds good on the TEO-5, as it doesn't narrow the signal range as much). It's just more of modern hybrid, whereas the OB-6 is more of a "classic" analog synth design. The TEO-5 sounds amazing. If they had a desktop version I'd be tempted to get it vs. the GS e7 to compliment my OB-6 desktop. The TEO-5 is far more suitable for deeper sound design than the OB-6. But it doesn't seem to sound as "alive" or as beautiful as the OB-6 unless you apply effects. Having recently applied a Meraki and Mercury X to the OB-6, I don't miss internal effects except for the ability to include them in modulation. Also, I'd get that mega synth you mentioned! I'd also sell most everything to get it.
@SpacehotelMusic4 ай бұрын
OB-6 sounds different and WAY better. This doesn't do much for me. It sounds more VA like. OB-6 is one of the best sounding synths of all time, including vintage. Trigon-6 is great too. TEO-5? Sounds small and the Digital VCAs definitely hamper the sound.
