Prologue 8 unit arrived today. No tuning issues. I’ve specifically been using Uhe’s Repro 5 as my go poly and general synthesizer lately. The prologue’s filter and general design is a perfect balance. Using slight modulations such as vibrato in the chorus section and the flanger is nice way to add some vibe when you’re using the LFO for something else specific. I’d be interested in hearing the 16’s compressor but this 8 was priced so well. Awesome Synthesizer just as it is.

I agree. So worth it still in 2022. Epically underrated monster of a 16 voice analog synth... WITH user digital oscillators and user effects. Those are what seperate the beast from the masses. Go warm analog.. Go metallic digital.. Go both!! I chuckled when you compared to hydrasynth. All digital hydra.. had one and sold it... the p16 tonal wise is in a totally different league. And the new Fusion digital oscillator with 24db filters. .... a whole new universe opened. The p16... better with age...

Great video Miles. One layer/bitimbral mode i wish it had would be 'Series': passing the main layer through the sub layer e.g as the sub layer's multiengine voice. Absolutely stunning, eclectic, warm sounds, that integrate with music in almost magical way. Great review... Thank you! I own a P16 and I have to agree with pretty-much everything you spoke about. I also agree that there are few things which could have been easily included in this synth (or a possible "Prologue 2") such as a filter selection switch, drive control knob, aftertouch, and the ability to use delay and reverb together. Sure, another LFO would be nice too, along with a sequencer, but these are not as essential and possibly detract from the simple, vintage-modern design concept.
@devinbelangermusic Жыл бұрын
Those are all fantastic suggestions! I really do hope they make a Prologue 2 but sadly with how this one flopped I kind of doubt they will :/
@dvamateur4 ай бұрын
Now, the Prologue is going to have a competition in the form of the 16-voice Behringer UB-Xa, with polyphonic aftertouch. I personally prefer the Prologue, the main reasons being the keybed feel, fit and finish, and of course the sonic possibilities. I heard that a Prologue Mk.2 is on horizon, but I don't know if that's true. My wish list? Move the mod wheels from the top panel to the left of the keyboard, as it is in the Korg Polysix from 1981.

Thanks for this excellent video. Something I didn't anticipate when I bought the Prologue is, for want of a better phrase, oscillator drift. It's so "organic" sounding. In fact it (mine) has a kind of unpredictability about it. It takes around 5 minutes to settle into tune from start up. I would say it's like a true vintage synth because, well, it actually is now that it's discontinued.

Thanks for watching and congrats on getting one! I agree, everyone was surprised when I did the shootout against the OB-6 with vintage mode, Prologue holds its own. I`d say that my Prophet Rev 2 was more of a Jack of all trades although I got my Prologue in 2020 to add to my setup and I think it`s great and was a bargain for 16 voice VCO`s. Seems like a pretty rad do-everything synth. On the other hand every video I’ve seen of the Prologue I adore the sounds it makes. What do you think? As a side note, it will serve as a midi controller for vst synths sometimes. Though I’m sure they both handle that just fine.

Thanks for the sub! I actually did a full comparison of those two synths on my channel, check it out! My honest opinion, though I like the sound and character of the Prologue maybe 10% more, the Summit is by far more versatile and therefore a better choice for your first major synth, it also has a slightly better keyboard as a midi controller :) both are awesome though and if you love the sound of the Prologue get it! Prologue has been on every single Miles Away release since I got it in 2019

@@devinbelangermusic Thanks for the reply. I did. watch your comparison a while back and just watched it again. Of course, still. can't decide . I may even come down to dimensions! The Summit can fit perfectly on the stand under my desk ,but the Prologue is too tall by about half an inch! I want something that I can really start playing and get lost in, which I can imagine could be either. The simplicity of the Korg I see as advantage. I like simple synths that are easy to master, but I think you said something in one video that you wouldn't recommend the Prologue as your ONLY synth, and I can imagine why that would be the.case. It's like a Juno in that it's instantly satisfying and simple to operate, but it has its' limits. The Summit looks like it almost has no limits, while still looks intuitive to get right into it. Would you say the Summit is easily accessible in that it's intuitive and easy to get going without quickly becoming overwhelming?

sorry for the late reply! Both rock for simple knob per function sounds, and sound great! @ghost mall they may have misunderstood the market. They offered a simple and powerful synth that hits the tone just right but keeps it simple like vintage synths. A lot of people are superficially obsessed with tons of modulation options. Korg was absolutely right to offer a VCO synth with this amount of polyphony at the price range. They couldn't have guessed that people would be so superficial and sleep on it.
@rui54212 жыл бұрын
@ghost mall a lot of people are fans of brand names or spec lists. They’ll criticize an unpopular brand for making clones, but praise new brands for making “classic inspired” synths. The most common criticism I see of the prologue is it’s lack of modulation, but those same critics will turn around and praise the purity and simplicity of classic synths from the past that didn’t have a broad modulation matrix. It’s a superficial standard that changes with their tribalism. The prologue is not a perfect synth but what it aimed to do, it did extremely well. Because it’s korg people were overly critical because they thought a big company should do something more than a simplified synth. Much like Behringer and the Deepmind, it’s synth that handles more than its price tag implies.

@Wilderness Music mm if it was a design decision based on an unresolvable problem perhaps the multitimbral modes of the prologue as created issue with the current design they use for the sequencer. The other just as likely possibility is they misjudged how important the sequencer would be to users of a full size 8-to-16 voice keyboard.

the mini xd actually gives the 8 and 16 a run for their money with its sequencer

why wouldn't it be? it is an instant classic. sure there's no sequencer, no after touch haha but this synth is amazing. it makes the best of the dark soundscapes. i use it alongside my pro-3. match made in heaven

Totally agree! Great combo, I love the Pro 2 and I can imagine the Pro 3 is even better!

@@devinbelangermusic I just updated my firmware from 1.32 to 2.10 on the prologue. So lazy of me and damn it sounds so much more lush and richer and it even seems louder

Still having a hard time forgiving Korg for only making 5 with Aftertouch....

Aftertouch is overrated in my humble opinion but I get that lots of people like it and it should be a standard nowadays!

still worth and happy didn't grabbed a matriarch instead. great panel and a dark ambient and pad monster with nearly OB6 OSCs. and now discontinued and rare to find in 16v. tuning issues? = i never found a synth in germany with it at stores. and for the classic 24db filter i got a g'mum dark. and before i get a moog one - if i could - i prefer a schmidt's 8 voice finest handmade german engineering tool instead - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXrQoIaZltNphpo, kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaSrh3h6erqal6M.

I’ve owned synths since 1987. Ive been pro since 1989. In 1999 I started enjoying the ease of soft synths until I didn’t. Yes I still use them. But I got tired of mousing around, dealing with updates and computer upgrades and due to assholes thinking using cracked software isn’t THEFT, forced so many softsynths out of business. I still prefer a real PHYSICAL instrument. My prologue ALWAYS works. No internet tentacles strangling the fun. I own a prologue 16, iridium, sequential pro 3, and Roland JDXA. No mouse! And lately I got a new Apple Mac Pro tower and Lo and Behold! My synths still work! I owned native instruments komplete 10 ultimate and the new Mac Pro isn’t compatible. So I had to buy 13. If you think using soft synths is cheaper, You just be using an older computer.

Totally agree Brian! Nothing beats the tangible feeling of playing a physical instrument. Thanks for watching, new synth videos weekly
