How many noticed that the lines "If you wanted me to X" fits perfectly with the next time they say "Why X"? If you wanted me to speak Why’d you make my voice stutter? If you wanted me to think Why do truths never matter? If you wanted me to carry on our dreams Why’d you curse me with “you’re a natural born genius”? If you wanted me to live Why do deaths end my torture? If you want me to forgive Why can’t anyone feel my hurt? If you want us to pretend like we’re civilized human Why’d you crown the most violent to be champions?

I dont know what it is called in music, but whenever people are singing different lines at the same time? When they do that from 2:30 on (and then when they harmonize later but the Latin starts in the background) its *so good*. This swung in last second and became my favorite song of the year with just the ending. And the rest was absolutely amazing too!

Now that Limbus Company has come out, I would be surprised if this song isn't in some way related to Dante, or someone close to them. With lyrics relating to going back in time, reliving death, forgetting the singer, and even clock noises, there's no way that the song isn't something related to Dante. Not to mention the line "Buckled up on velvet seats" is taking about the LimBus, so it has to be one of the sinners at least.

I'm leaning towards it being from Faust, as apart from Yi Sang, she's the only one referred to as a "natural born genius", and we also know so little about her past. If the lines are to be taken literally, maybe she's carmen somehow, as it says she's in the empathic light, clearly referencing the seed of light project,

FELLOW CLERKS, AGENTS, LIBRARIANS, AND FIXERS: WE MADE IT THROUGH ANOTHER YEAR. Not all of us did though; maybe we had to cut ties with people who had our trust, or perhaps the lives of those we loved had to end... But regardless, WE are here, WE are the ones that managed to stand taller than others, and the weight of that realization will lie on our shoulders as long as we keep choosing to live. LET'S KEEP LIVING THEN, BECAUSE, EVEN IF WE HAVE TO WALK ON FIRE, FOLLOWING BLOODIED ROUTES, LIFE WILL KEEP IN MOTION BY DEFAULT, NEVER WAITING FOR US. Ques sej mentalle? Ques io fuocca? Ques qui Diavola? Cossa non naturha Via si violenzalle Bruschia sej diva Verha ignisa A! Lamenta, Lamenta Cis senza Lamenta, Lamenta, Lamenta Nell inferrna I tried to translate it, but I only got as far as: In Hell, What is happiness? What is insanity? What is my purpose? Who is the Devil? This is not natural This way of violence The divine are burning Watch them burn Oh! Lament, lament Without thought Lament, lament, lament In Hell

Some theory I cooked up after I noticed about some of the lyrics when the Lament part starts is that each of them corresponds to each sinner based on the order they're said and the sinner order "If you wanted me to speak" is Yi Sang "If you wanted me to think" is Faust "If you want me to carry on our dreams" is Don Quixote "Why'd you make my voice stutter" is Ryoshu "Why do the truths never matter" is Meursault "Why'd you curse me with you're a natural born genius" is Hong Lu "If you wanted me to live" is Heathcliff "If you wanted me to forgive" is Ishmael "If you want us to pretend like we're civilized humans" Is Rodion "Why do deaths end my torture?" is Sinclair "Why can't anyone feel my hurt?" is Outis "Why'd you crown the most violent to be champions?" is Gregor Now I haven't read any of the books the sinners come from but it kinda makes sense? Not sure though I'll read all of it for the next year for fun

On the fact Dante is inspired off of Dante's Inferno, the character doesn't have much backstory, so I thought that was the surface level of why Dante has amnesia and PM was just going to use it as a plot device to take creative liberties with. However, I then decided to take a peek at their source material because "Why not?", and "Maybe this will help with characterization!" It was far more than that. Firstly, it has to be acknowledged that Dante in the books is just a self-insert character for the author himself. Whatever backstory they can be given has to be inspired off the real deal. Secondly, the Divine Comedy (the book trilogy written) is set in a time not in the present of the author, but quite a bit before (more on this later). Theoretically, the manager we are seeing post-amnesia and are going to see pre-amnesia are just the equivalent of this relationship between character and irl Dante respectively. Let's call pre-amnesia Dante by the name Durante for short. Instead of actual time travel into the past or just seeing divine prophecies in the present, we're in a bit of a limbo (get it?). Dante themselves is back at square one, no memories and no progress to define themselves as a person-- an effective metaphor turned literal on the Inferno being set in the past. They could very well be the core essentials of their character before the City happened. But time waits for no one, and Dante is no exception. They "live outside of time" with their clock head, Serpent has yet to be relevant (yet), they clearly had enemies, but everything else remains in the present except them. Because the story was being written in that present about the past. PM are actual geniuses for being able to make such an intricate metaphor, but there's more. Technically, that present day is their backstory. Because pre-amnesia Dante is the author, with the way PM is handling this. And we already know that PM is not afraid to reference real people. Hermann is the irl name of the father of The Metamorphosis' author, Franz Kafka (who had daddy issues). We are following the character's journey to recognizing and rejecting sin, our manager of Limbus Company Dante, but are they the same person as Durante? They are *technically*, but **before** things went wrong. I went to read the Wikipedia page for the author, Dante Alighieri, and I was baffled at how well this could fit into a PM backstory?? Like, this man was living a drama, and for what? The plot? He fought (only in one battle, but it was an important one!), he joined a Physicians' and Apothecaries' Guild to sell books and poems (lol), and was engaged in politics. This was intense. I didn't know half of what I was reading either without going down a rabbit hole of links and tabs, because these aren't in my history or literature classes (it should be, it's crazy to the point it's interesting). And this isn't even the stuff PM could use as backstory. So I'm going to touch on it. Durante was considered a "bigwig" in the past, but no one knows what that means and everyone is theorizing about it. I firmly believe Limbus Company is still part of or relevant to the L District outside of the Golden Boughs. And by that, I mean a majority of their backstory or upbringing may have happened in the L District. It fits most with whatever was going on with irl Dante while still keeping them separated from the Smoke War (because Outis and Gregor would know them if that was the case- they were a big deal). They could have easily been caught up in the aftermath of the collapse of the Library as it was the equivalent of the Wing of the District, and people would be fighting over who got the power to... well, power the District. Political parties could form, turf wars could ensue, and it's *just* tame enough to not participate in after the first battle (to be more detailed, go to the Battle of Campaldino). This could also explain them being confident in taking down Wolf, Panther and Lion if not for their amnesia when even the Sinners' combined effort couldn't (on their own no less) while supporting their current not-knowing-how-to-fight circumstance. They weren't well-versed in fighting as a profession or commonality, but well-acquainted enough to fight in a full-blown battle for territories and Wings. It would be no wonder then that they thought they could solo the trio if well-equipped. Dante (irl) fought in the frontlines on horseback. They *could've*, just if they had *anything at all* to fight with. Keep in mind, we find them unarmed. They could have been inexperienced (fighting only once), but they could've been powerful too, and just caught off-guard. They fixed a head to themselves while running from the trio and (implied to be) fatally wounded. This could be exactly how they gained their notoriety. Keep in mind, one of Dante's thoughts is also something along the lines of a faint memory urging them to step in as a manager with dignity and grace. Durante could have been a manger in the past. Not for Limbus Company, but still a manager. It was either their participation, or their later leadership role after the initial battle(s) that made them so popular. And when the Wing to your District has fallen twice in a row, you tend to appreciate a good leader. However, this is where things hypothetically went wrong. They could've been exiled. At least, that's what happened to irl Dante (search up his wiki page!). He was exiled from Florence by, get this, a faction that branched off of the group he fought for. Talk about betrayal! This could also explain their UI being ??? in place of where we now see Manager. Durante wasn't Manager at that time-- not anymore. Though this is vaguely concerning. They could have just given themselves another title outside of "Manager", but they *don't*. This could also mean the way Dante pre and post amnesia could be foiling each other. After all, they seem to have gained confidence in themselves. Dante's main sin (as said in Purgatorio) is Pride. That's right, the thing they objectively lack most when they first interact with these people! Plot twist! But they may have both lost themselves. Recall Dante in Canto 5 taking a harpoon to the shoulder for Smee, and just saying the clock head was fine. They only see their worth as attached to their clock head and their role as manager, no matter how much necessary suffering it puts them through. Could Durante have been the same with the ways of the City, only seeing their worth as attached to their contributions- or worse yet- sacrifices? Is that why they have no title without their role? Because, outside of being a manager, they have nothing else to define themselves with? This could be an Outis ("I am... nothing at all"?? See it?) parallel, which leads into our next point. Their song (In Hell We Live, Lament) could give us some insight too. More specifically, through the verses several people have attempted to link to the Sinners. I believe there will be more than the song that will foil them and the Sinners. More specifically, now that we've got their backstory sorted, there's a glaring parallel I'm seeing. Gregor foiled them in terms of the helplessness and lack of confidence in the situations they've been placed in (lack of info and amnesia on Dante's end, Gregor literally having a filter with the apples and being controlled for war). Rodya foils them in terms of thinking they were special (Dante being manager- essential for revival- "special" but not seeing themselves as such, and Rodya *wanting* to be special). Sinclair presents Dante's inexperience with the world, the hatchling imagery, etc. Yi Sang lost his coworkers, Dante lost those they wanted to protect (in a less literal death way). Ishmael couldn't see a reason to keep going after Ahab, literally claiming she would just die after avenging the Pequod crew. Dante claims they are "the lost leading the lost", and the UI filled with question marks doesn't give any good impressions either.

Adding more bc my comment was too long: These are going to keep happening, and I've found something literal too. The chains both Dante and Meursault possess. Dante, when exiled, was to pay a fine alongside it. However, he refused to pay the fine, partly because he believed he was not guilty of what he was being exiled for, and partly because his assets had already been claimed by the faction opposing him. This led to him facing the risk of a death sentence and being burned at the stake if he returned there. Meursault kills a man who attacked him first (under the influence of heatstroke no less), but seems to be judged more for his character than his crime. He accousts the chaplain who visits him because they attempt to have him stray from atheism and "fix his relationship with God", and that is what seals his fate to the death sentence. Their chains are either a metaphor for being condemned to death by the hands of man instead of the universe (possibly God, in Dante's case), or isolation. And in regards to the Sinners, there's something else of note too. Their numbers. I don't believe they were sorted by the order in which they joined Limbus Company. After all, Outis and Gregor are both at the back, and they're both veterans of war. They have the highest kill counts. They are sorted by the severities of their Sins. Dante is the 10th. Now, the Inferno (all of the Divine Comedy, actually) follows a specific number trend: 10. It follows this trend in regards to the definition of perfection (talk about pride). In Inferno, there are the Vestibule and nine circles of Hell, making 10. Purgatory has 2 levels of Ante-Purgatory, 7 Terraces of Purgatory, and the Garden of Eden making 10. In Paradiso, there are ten regions, but one of them id different in nature from the rest, mirroring Inferno in the 9 + 1 format. Sinclair's number is crossed out, replaced with 11. One too many. This possibly shows how Sinclair will need to grapple with leaving his Realm of Light and seeing the City as it is to unlock his full potential. It could be why we are needed to guide him. But what does that say about Dante? Whatever their Sin was, to them, it was for closure- completion. And it was *bad*, considering how many people died in Rodya's chapter. Having a lower kill count than Sinclair is not a high bar, and it's frankly concerning. Another key thing to note too- these are not sorted based on direct or indirect means. Rodya directly axed someone, but Sinclair ranks above her through having more causalties even though he didn't directly attack anyone. Durante could've been a serial killer, for all we know. For a self-proclaimed "exalted poet" (see Canto 4 of Inferno), we probably should have seen this coming. And I believe they strayed from the path of Virtue during their exile. Why not the battles, you may ask? Well, the answer's simple. If Durante was anything like Dante in terms of action (and action alone), they may avoid unnecessary killing. Aka, they may have had a no-killing policy and only wounded people. This could be another factor as to why they were so well known too. They may not have wanted to kill people, seeing it as a mercy. In Inferno, Dante accidentally breaks a branch off a tree that used to be a person in the second ring of the Circle of Violence, and kicks the head of another sinner in the ninth circle of Hell. This could allude to their acts of violence in the past if the ring doesn't belong to another Sinner, like Sinclair's ring of Heresy. But somewhere along the way, this could have changed. "Please, a one-way ticket to Heaven" doesn't give many good signs, after all. Is it possible Durante could have started killing because they saw it as better than continuing to live in the City, hence the "Not so different from our Hell", "Not so different from our home" lines. Could their Sin have been killing people in a sick, twisted attempt to "spare" their lives? And if they are the manager to Sinners, are they not just a foil to White Night as well? Vergilius has already been shown with art where he's wearing a thorny crown, a reference to One Sin and Hundreds of Good Deeds. And in Inferno, Beatrice seeks out Virgil to guide Dante back onto the path of virtue. Faust recruited Vergilius. If White Night has an assigned Devil, does that not mean Dante has a "traitorous" Angel? Someone as holy as a Beatrice figure? What if Faust betrays the wishes of Durante, having previously made a "deal with the devil" as her Sin, to make them a better person in the present? TL;DR - Dante has a tragic backstory that foils them to the Sinners, has committed several atrocities in the name of good, and Faust is the Angel.

This song, again and again, has been linked as the theme for Limbus Company & Dante. However, it isn't just that- it actually gives us some insight on them. I have relistened to this song too many times & scrolled through far too many analysations & theories, so shout out to all you redditors out there! Green_Pucci, special credit to you for inspiring this & giving the translations of the chanting! However, this is my own take on what this song (& more) means for Dante and the fate of the City. From what we know of Dante so far, they are the 10th Sinner and the Executive Manager of Limbus Company. They don't remember their past, and seem rather passive. Because of this, they could be marked by the sin of Sloth. However, from what Vergilius and Faust say of Dante in the past, it seems like Dante wasn't as good a person they are now. So, we'll address that through the lyrics: "I walked down a path Leading to the past" Now, this strikes me as someone recalling the past, as shown by the verses. However, it's not stated whose past it is. This could be referring to the mirror dungeons showing the pasts of the Sinners. This is important to note. Just because this is Dante's analysis doesn't mean we should immediately discredit other characters. They are recalling events of their own and the Sinners. They are going to have parallels & similarities to the other Sinners, & see themselves in such heinous actions. That is how they realise their faults. I don't know if this is sung by Dante with their memories or not, but they will grow and develop from the Sinners. "Stole from the tree's hands A regretter's friend -- the forbidden fruit" Is that a biblical referrence I see? Don't worry, I'm going to be using them too. I have a lot of thoughts on how Christian imagery plays into Dante's story actually, but that's for later. The forbidden fruit could be a metaphor for the City. With the fact it uses so much knowledge to run itself, alluding to the Tree of Knowledge isn't too farfetched. Moreover, Dante can remember things the Sinners can't due to not being affected by the memory wipes. However, with how eating the fruit was the original sin of man, the City's system is also screwed. This is clearly comparing their sin to the events that transpired in Eden's Garden. They are comparing what has brought them to Mephistopheles, made them the tenth sinner, to the very act that condemned all of man from paradise. A very bold comparison, to make it sound so catastrophic. Could this tie into their pride, or is this a warning? With how they see the "regretter's friend" & "the forbidden fruit" as one and the same with an endash, I think they are using this as an allegory for someone they knew. This means the "regretter" is them. This also means their "friend" could actively be the Beatrice of their story, the same guide in the chapters through the end of Purgatory and Paradise. And another thing to note: trees seem to be allegories of sin and evil. Where does Dante wake up, both in the original Inferno and here? Literally in the Dark Forest. This could be representative of their previous lives of sin-- backed up by the fact the wolf, panther, and lion shown there are symbols of sin and Vergilius appears moments later in the same forest to take them to hell. The biblical imagery also resurfaces here. The Tree Of Knowledge was what bore the forbidden fruit that Adam and Eve eat-- the original sin of humanity. Not to mention the already existing ties of White Night to Dante as its E.G.O is called "Paradise Lost", and the parallels to Angela they may possess. Finally, this could even tie into the Golden Boughs. Yes, they're just individual branches. But "bough" as a directly used word has occured in a rather significant part of the Divine Comedy-- the final few lines in Purgatorio. The line reads, 'From that most holy wave I now returned To Beatrice; remade, as new trees are renewed when they bring forth new boughs, I was pure and prepared to climb unto the stars.' The Golden Boughs are represnting change after a life of sin-- "as trees are renewed when they bring forth new boughs"-- a chance at redemption for the Sinners. They are the embodiment of the Sinners' wishes and drive, their desire to become better people. "I bite off the skin Chewing on its tender flesh Quaff down its lukewarm pus" Okay, first off, what is this imagery??? It starts somewhat tame, but then the descriptors and wording make it so visceral and vivid you need to replay it several times over. The adjectives are what make it memorable. The "tender flesh" is described as if it was a highlight. Of everything, it was texture and consistency that is mentioned instead of any other thing. Even so, it can be dismissed as just descriptor. But not this. The usage of "quaff". By definitions of Google, it is to "drink (something, especially an alcoholic drink) heartily", or "an alcoholic drink". It's the former here, but this doesn't entail anything good. This implies Dante's sin could be compared to drinking alcohol to them. Gluttony, if you would. You could say they are aware it's a bad thing. "Alcohol is bad", "overconsumption is a sin", but this could also imply it would be an act of indulgence to them. Whatever pushed them to their sin, they didn't regret their actions in the moment, even if they would now.
@DoubleAgent05
@DoubleAgent05 2 ай бұрын
Then, the "lukewarm pus". Firstly, pus is formed at the site of inflammation during bacterial or fungal infection. If they see that as indulgence, they revelled in what could be compared to the infection of a body. Dante willingly indulged in what they knew was something that harmed others. "You became the "me" who you despised We swallowed the time Let us rewind" Does Dante have a thing for imagery in consumption, or is it just me? Wasn't their sin in the original novel Pride? This shows Dante isn't very content with someone. Who this mystery person is? Well, once again, it's Beatrice. They may see her as just as prideful and sinful as they are. For chasing her desires ("lust") and hurting others in the process, for being too "prideful" to notice their pain, for every mistake she made that led to their sin. They may even believe she "despised" them, considering they are literally here as the 10th Sinner. And Beatrice certainly looked down on Dante for his pride in the Divine Comedy. But there may also be a double entendre to these lyrics as well-- Dante may not like their past acfions, because it's the reason they have to relive death and pain over and over. And note how it mentions that Dante became 'the "me" you despised'. Their recent 5.5 notes seem to show them developing a... less than tasteful mindset. "- The LCCA don't seem to think so highly of me and the Sinners. They look down on pretty much the entirety of the LCB. - They probably think that the company's giving us special treatment or something. They think we have it easy? Maybe they should try dying over and over again if they really think we're a gunch of spoiled babies. - ...Or feel the pain of death again, again, and again. With no end." This implies that Dante thought this way in the past, as well as developing it in the now. Does this not feel like Envy to you? The "swallowed the time" line is also intriguing to me. They still refer to the things they do with consumption, but if this implies gluttony, perhaps what they have done to take away time is a bad thing? "We" also suggests the presence of others, so is Dante also saying Beatrice was involved in this? If so, it has to be Faust. Asking to "rewind" is obviously a referrence to their ability to rewind the injuries of the Sinners, but I wonder if it means more, here. Again, it says "us". Perhaps it might be a wish for the Sinners, to reverse their past mistakes, or for themselves and Beatrice depending on who is referred to? The latter would make sense if they were meant to resemble Adam and Eve. Beatrice's death was also apparently meant to lay out the path of virtue and salvation for Dante, but that ties into things later. "Lament If you wanted me to speak If you wanted me to think If you wanted me to carry on our dreams" Like the other choruses, people point out that this pairs the next few lines: "Lament Why'd you make my voice stutter? Why do truths never matter? Why'd you curse me with "You're a natural born genius"? " So let's step away for a bit. Some people noticed these lines correspond to the Sinners. While at first, I thought it took away from Dante's character to think of the lines in such a fashion, this may have been intentional. Both the Sinners & Dante have something to do with these lines. Inferno focuses on Dante & how he is capable of sin, thus allowing him to look past his pride & see his shortcomings. All the mentions of sin that isn't pride are a red herring, whether it be gluttony, wrath, or more. This is testament to what they are capable of while overshadowing their pride, as they cannot see their own hubris. Their capacity to sin overshadows their main sin. Ironic, really. Besides similar traits or backgrounds, Dante's struggles is going to be reflected in the Sinners as well. That is why they are the manager. In helping the Sinners recover and move forward, in helping the Sinners face their sins, Dante will face their own sins as well. That is why their own personal lament can reflect the other Sinners. However, where does their lament stem from, then? Easy- the City. Dante is forced to undergo the pain of death over and over for reasons they don't remember-- all that suffering having stemmed from those who felt the same pain in the City. Making "their voice stutter" and the fact "truths never matter" could be tied into each other. Sure they could refer to the fact Dante can only speak in ticking and the fact no one tells them anything respectively, but that would be too easy. In real life, he was a poet in a city filled with political unrest. Long story short, he was politically inactive and exiled by only affliation to another political party. Even if he hadn't done anything, it didn't matter. None of it did. His voice was not listened to, the truth pushed aside. I'm not sure if it's too much a a stretch to make his background derived from real life, but with Project Moon already making allusions to the authors of the books and literature they came from, I think it is very possible.

"Each loop we live through (Each loop we live through) The standards inside me The line I drew for me Lowers to the earth" Again, only vaguely hinting at Dante's pride, & something else as well. With every time they need to live through a loop, their morals and ethics corrode. Simple, right? Well, it is explicitly stated the standards & lines they drew "lowers to the earth". They once held their moral compass so highly they believed it to be above earth. This phrasing could entail unrealistic expectations & grounding, but it could also represent that they held pride in their virtue & saw themselves as above others as a result. What they could once pride themselves on is no longer something they can derive a sense of righteousness from. This could either help them or hurt them, but there's only one way to find out as we watch them progress. "Endless inferno (inferno) Counter-clock we rose Counter-clock we reload" Not too complicated either. Counter-clock refers to a motion going against the normal clockwise, which is imagery for Dante's ability to bring the Sinners back from otherwise lethal injury, "rising" from the grave, if one would. The mention of "reloading" is intriguing, but I chalked it up to guns that have spinning barrels, considering the word can't be used in any other context. Perhaps alluding to the ampules/bullets made by K Corp, for some reason? The mention of "inferno". Besides being a literary referrence & a title drop, it can also be used as a means to compare the City to hell-- the inferno Dante travels through in the original novel. It can't just be the mirror dungeons, as they are only reflections of emotions that already existed from the City. "Endless" only serves to hammer in the fact that it is inescapable; holding the entirety of the population. "Tick, tick, tock Re-played thoughts" This refers to the fact both versions of Dante are looking back on things or "replaying" the same thought process over and over again. The ticking could symbolize some sort of countdown, which I have a lot of thoughts on. Dante has a doomsday clock for a head. And in Canto 4, it ticks closer to midnight-- the end of the world as we know it. A doomsday clock & the forbidden fruit; two allusions to the end of man, which isn't a lot, but when do coincidences cease to be coincidences? They are a ticking time bomb, and I believe we know what they are counting down to. The catastrophic event in June 985 that will kill 300 million people. But even so, that isn't everyone. There is still another drop of 4 million before the drop begins to even slow. That is far more than just one district's worth of people-- which is mortifying, to say the least. However, we have around 27 chapters to get through in total if we take 3 chapters as 2 months until their June, so I don't think Dante's clock will tick down every time 4 Cantos pass. I believe it will tick down, ironically enough, when a Sinner shows that they can undergo redemption for their sins. Doomsday comes closer whenever a Sinner can be sent to 'heaven', when redemption is found. But why or how could Dante have a countdown to this; and what will bring about the end? Well, the answer is in the next few lines. "Forget me not I'm inside the empathic light" The thing is, the forget-me-not. This could be cruel irony considering Dante's amnesia, but what if their head was the equivalent of the flower? The flower has a story about a knight who goes to pick a flower for his lover, but his armour makes him lose his balance and so he falls into the currents. Before dying, he throws it to his lover while screaming "Forget me not!" before his death. Beatrice (or in other words, Faust) seems to be reaching out to a pocketwatch in the thumbnail of the video. If Dante had something to do with the reason she's here, this could be an obvious implication of their guilt. But what if she was throwing it? What if she, because she made the deal with him for knowledge, ensures Dante can never forget her as they will always have a reminder of what they did? Even in the video, the watch starts to gain focus at the aforementioned verse. And with the empathic light implying she would be in it. Perhaps because of the Golden Boughs, or perhaps the Seed of Light. Green_Pucci has a few theories about this that I won't go into, so that I can avoid this being longer than it already is. Again, there are implications of Gluttony from consumption. There are stated to be "angels on her ribs", which could actually tie into how Dante in real life described Beatrice as even semi-divine since he was a Christian. Though, that was just one of his many gestures of courtly love, but I digress. Saying that the angels "stared at them" could be referring to outside judgement, though it could also be the feeling of remorse they held for being caught, being watched. However, this could be an analogy to the Light being "divine", which could imply they (possibly) knew what they were getting Faust into. " "Hello, how may I help you today?" Please, a one-way ticket to heaven" Unlike its simple expressions at first, these lines have a lot to unpack. Assistance coming in the form of an angel and asking to go to heaven seems rather straight forward, no one wants to be condemned unless it's out of guilt. Perhaps Dante previously even had faith, believed in a god to save the world as they knew it, although it's just speculation. However, note the specifics of "one-way ticket". One-way, meaning Dante is asking for a direct and easy way into heaven, out of suffering. It may seem like a stretch, but this may be alluding to wanting death upon oneself, wanting to end everything and ascend to heaven- to die, if it meant escaping the hellscape of a city they lived in. They may have wanted to live, to try, but didn't know how else to cope. This would make them guilty of the sin of violence both against others, and themselves. They are guilty of one of the many sins shown in Inferno, alluding to the Wood of Suicides. Keep in mind, although the dark forest they first come to in is referrenced from the book, there was no need to allude to the forbidden fruit that comes from the Tree of Knowledge. That is at least two instances the woods have been shown, though this may be a stretch. But death and suicide are also hinted at in later lyrics. "Buckled up on velvet seats Sceneries were passing by Not so different from our hell Not so different from our home" The velvet seats directly reference the seats everyone sits on in the Limbus. However, it isn't all there is to the line. Beatrice, in the video, is also "buckled" or restrained to a velvet seat, with mechanical arms keeping her in place. If she's dead, considering the previous lines we can infer from, are the velvet seats themselves another metaphor for death or murder? The sceneries passing by seem relatively unimportant, just what they see as they travel in the Limbus. However, the other two lines are also quite interesting. The sceneries being "not so different from their hell" could mean that Dante sees the place as where they were raised and born in, perhaps belonging to, but not one of comfort or solace. Then the next line, referring to the City as their home in contrast to the previous statement. Could it be that this is how Dante sees the City, both a hell they reside in and a home they used to live in? "Then I realized Someone's heaven could be the source of my torment" These lines, unlike the previous few which were noted for Gluttony, could actively refer to the sin of Wrath, showing how Dante is capable of any sin. Feeling unfairly treated, wanting to exact vengence onto others, when they may not even deserve it. And this could also be another reason Dante gave Faust the information she wanted even thouh she would never find satisfaction again if she knew. Dante may have held feelings that it was only fair that she feel the same pain they were going through- to experience the pain they went through. Her heaven was their source of torment, knowing the light of his life had forsaken them too. They wanted to exact hell upon others, by taking others' lives with theirs- at least, that seems like it was the plan, with the Doomsday Clock for their head and all.

"Life is allowing yourself Allowing yourself to step on fire, (Life is to consume) Shed tears on bloodied routes (Life is to become food for each other no matter evil or good) Eternally in hell (Life is fairness, life is inequality) We live (Life is in the motion) By default" Now, I'm going to address some of the lyrics in brackets first. Once again, consumption. Yet here, where it once represented gluttony, indulgence, and desire, it now makes out the City to be a dog-eat-dog world where everyone is a part of the food chain-- "life is to consume". The phrase "become food for each other no matter evil or good" could imply either internal conflict on Dante's true motive, or them believing that Beatrice's death was inevitable or a natural part of the process. With how LoR talked about the cycle of the City, I wouldn't be surprised if the latter was true. "Life is fairness, life is inequality". This statement would seem contradictory, but perhaps that's the point. This could be referring to wrath, inflicting harm onto others as they had done onto you, but ultimately hurting the innocent; "fairness" & "inequality" becoming convoluted in the City's endless cycle. "Life is in the motion by default". This could refer to how things are everchanging, evermoving, in the City, & that no one & nothing will wait for you to catch up. This is a reflection- not just of time and clock imagery- but of how Dante views life and how the City has impacted it. "Life is allowing yourself to step on fire" could show how Dante views life as defined by suffering, because that isn't technically wrong. Suffering & sorrow are a constant in life, just more at certain points in time than others. To progress, you need to let yourself burn & experience that very pain, because running from it will only allow it to spread. The song saying to "shed tears on bloodied routes" could tie back into the fact, once again, Dante is said to be a "regretter". They could regret their sin, grieve over Beatrice, and it would be more unnerving if they didn't. But the song mentions "routes" plural. Could the blood also be a metaphor for paths and outcomes unable to come to be? "Eternally in hell, we live by default" is what it says on the tin. Well, sort of. Living is not a choice. People do not consent to living, and that sentiment is probably exasperated in the City. The City can be compared to hell over and over, but it is still justified every single time. "Lament If you wanted me to live If you want me to forgive If you want us to pretend like we're civilized humans" This chorus details more about Dante's past mindset, one they used to have and don't remember. Telling others to lament over even wanting them to live, as if they wanted to die. They would lament if they wanted Dante to forgive, with how they held so much against people, against the City, how they would never forgive others for the suffering they had been put through. And the last, pretending they are civilised humans. Because in truth, people in the City can barely get by, having twisted mindsets and harming others for their own survival. "Each loop we die through (Each loop we die through) The justice inside me, The ego fending me Rationalize my sin" Now, Project Moon's quote for Limbus Company is "Face the Sin, Save the E.G.O". It could be that with every Sinner closer to redemption through facing their sin, the closer they are to unlocking their E.G.O. This could also imply a newfound sense of justice, harder to go against than the first that allowed them to commit their sin. However, hell in Inferno accepts those who are unrepentant and attempt to justify their sin. One may see this and assume that "rationalize my sin" could be foreshadowing Dante being an unrepentant Sinner themselves, but I don't see this as the case. It could be that they themselves don't understand why they committed their sin, and are desperately asking someone else to explain it to them. Whether this is because of how their motive was conflicted or their amnesia, they cannot comprehend their own sin. "Lament Why do deaths end my torture? Why can't anyone feel my hurt? Why'd you crown the most violent to be champions?" Deaths ending Dante's torture could be taken two ways, either wanting themselves or others around them, who were the source of their torment, to face death. Moreover, a lack of understanding, a sense of Envy is shown in "Why can't anyone feel my hurt?" because everyone in the City feels the same hurt. They experience it through it being inflicted upon them and inflicting it onto others in turn, repeating the cycle. But Dante sees it otherwise even though the lyrics elaborate on the hell everyone goes through, envying others and dwelling in the pain he has to swallow for his own Pride. And the most violent winning in the end is true most times in the City. Because if you cannot fight, you will die. You have to come out on top, you have to be the most violent, to survive in the City. "In this inferno (inferno) We built for ourselves (Reviving) each other in this hell" Not only is this a title drop of the novel they're from again, but the endless emphasis on the City being the Inferno, the hell, really hammers in how dystopian it is here and that Dante is not free of struggles just because they have amnesia. They had them before, sins and struggles alike, and this will come back to haunt them. Not only that, the line "we built for ourselves" could imply Dante sees the Sinners' misdeeds as the cycle of the City the same way life was "to consume", continuing the making and prolonging of the City's hellscape. "Reviving each other in this hell" is straightforward though, referring to Dante and how they are able to bring the Sinners back to life.

Now, we've finally settled the last chorus! But are we done here, after such a lengthy analysis filled with theories? Not yet. We still have the chants of this chorus. Nell inferna (In hell) Ques te anim? (Those souls?) Ques sej mentalle? (Those minds?) Ques io fuocca? (Those fires?) Ques qui Diavola? (Those devils?) Cossa non naturha (Unnatural things) Via si violenzalle (Through a little violence) Bruschia sej diva, verha ignisa (The divine/angels watch me forever burn OR I watch the divine/angels forever burn) A! Lamenta, lamenta (A! Lament/lamenter, lament/lamenter) Cis senza (Without even this side) Lamenta, lamenta, lamenta Nell inferna (Lament(er), lament(er), lament in hell) Some have mentioned that it switches between Latin and Italian, perhaps even being its own foax language with some mentioning French or Portugese. Is this why Dante was able to say "merci" to Meursault?? The thing is, Dante in real life was Italian, and a lot of the lines are Italian. That was unimportant, but these lines also tie into Dante's potential development really well. They proclaim "those" souls, minds, fires, and devils, to be "unnatural things". To whom they belong to, it's unsure, but we can assume. Those belonging to the City. They see the City as a hellscape, proclaiming it and all those within it and condoning it "unnatural" (which isn't wrong, but...). Then, "through a little violence", and "I watch the divine burn/the angels watch me burn". The latter seems to be the one people are most conflicted on, so I included both variations since we don't know which language is used more prominently. In the next line, it is as if they are commanding whoever is listening to lament, as they believe there is more than enough reason to. However, the Latin suffix "-a", credit to Green_Pucci, makes the word translate into "lamenter". I believe this should have been intentional as it even references the song name, "In Hell We Live, Lament". Not only is the song a lament, they expect the feeling to be mutually shared by the audience, hence the "we" in the title. Both Dante and the listeners are the aforementioned "lamenter". "Cis senza" has to be unpacked in two parts. "Cis" translates to "without", which is rather straightforward. However, "senza", unlike Green_Pucci's version, translates to "even this side" when I ran it through a translator. I am not sure if this is inaccurate, but it further reaffirms my theory that Dante as a character from Limbus Company had to be based off the author of Inferno due to how personal his works were. [During irl Dante's exile, Dante not only grew more politically active, he tried to seize back control of where he lived from those who exiled him when he wasn't even that engaged. However, these failed mainly due to treachery-- betrayal of trust. He grew bitter towards both his enemies and the incompetence of his allies (which was honestly fair, he helped them a lot as a feditore), and resolved to be a one-man party.] "Without even this side" makes a lot more sense in that context, doesn't it? Even more so, Dante even appeared with the author's actual name- Durante, which we see on their jacket in the offical teaser and splash art. This could also allude to the fact Dante may not be their real name, seeing the way the font seems so messy compared to the original font. Once again, they tell the listener to lament, but this time specifically mentions that they are in hell. Putting the two together literally means "lament/lamenter in hell", end quote. Honestly can't blame them, but Dante's really just trying to drag everyone down with them, huh? They've just adopted the "one mold fits all" mentality and just decided everyone feels how they do, because why wouldn't they? This is the moment I have waited for-- where the Sinners' numbers come into play. I firmly believe that they are sorted based on the severity of their sin. Or, more specifically, the amount of people killed in their crimes as we pass killing people in the list. It makes sense with the source material and what we know of the characters so far, after all. Even just what has been revealed makes it seem likely. After all, the two people with war crimes are at the end of the list, and Canto 4 (Yi Sang's chapter) has shown us he hasn't killed at all.

So that means that Dante, directly or indirectly, has killed several people before. It just has to be more than Rodion, and less than Sinclair. After all, since Rodion isn't after Sinclair, direct or indirect means don't matter as long as Dante didn't kill more than a village's worth of people. It could be with the unjust treatment and their possible thoughts of entertaining death, perhaps even knowing more than they should've to be able to normally live in the City, Dante started killing. I assume they would aim for people who were involved in their suffering, even if it meant crossing between the districts. After all, perhaps they felt as though they were doing the City a favor. If living seemed like hell, why wouldn't one think death was the only way out? Everyone lives this way, whether they like it or not. I think this would also be why Limbus Company would have taken them in, and why Vergilius and Faust are familiar with them. They had already commited their sin before the rest of the cast had arrived. This is where I need to mention things outside the song. More specifically, Demian and his imagery from The Little Prince. This makes Dante the pilot who meets the prince in the desert- or here- their exile. The two still interact over the course of eight days, and I believe they would have helped each other. Dante obviously being offered means to cope without murdering, and Demian with wanting to help Sinclair. Demian still wishes to return to his rose after all-- Sinclair. The snake must be one of the few who appear in the background of the scene he is shown in the official promotion, my justification being the mark on his head. More specifically, the Mark of Abel. The Mark of Abel is supposed to allow him to inflict the pain that others inflict onto him sevenfold. What if this is the power Demian calls upon to strike down Kromer-- someone who had caused immense suffering, in an act of karmic retribution? What if he was given this mark through the "snake bite" here? In that way, then the constant emphasis with Dante and the stars would make a lot more sense too. Where Demian has the mark, Dante has the location of their star. After all, not only is "stars" the last word in every book of the Divine Comedy, but the prince tells the pilot in the original story all he needs to do is to look up at the stars to remember him. This gives me the impression that Demian gave Dante the ability for the pacts and revivals, possibly to offer a means to undo the things they'd done, albeit with pain. Either way though, this results in Dante being unsure of the true nature of Demian's departure, whether that be death or actually having returned home. All they knew was that he had returned to where he belonged. Moreover, looking at their clock head and two dots, it oddly resembles the Mark of Abel. But they could recover. Perhaps, they were on the way to redemption. They may have grown from those eight days, cherished the hospitable company and wanted to change. Even if living in the City felt like hell, perhaps they were going to learn how to cope with their new situation. The thing is, I've seen some theories that Faust is their Beatrice. Knows a lot about them, has guided them through battles before, and recruited Vergilius. One could even compare her deal with Mephistopheles for knowledge to Eve taking the forbidden fruit from the snake, which would fit the parallels Dante seems to have with him. There's also only one issue I can think of for this theory, but it is a major one. Characters can only take the place of other unnamed characters. And Beatrice most certainly has a name. There are only two ways Faust could be the Eve to their Adam. It's either Beatrice dies, or Faust is a fake name. Beatrice's death is described in Purgatorio as an opportunity not just to guide Dante, but laying down a path of virtue before him. If that was just the committing of their sin directly involving her, it would both be their path to virtue and their final sin. What would even be the motive to such an act in the first place? Well, the answers are unknown as of now, since they're still in the midst of development. Regardless of how, their sin would be anchored in their pride; their entitlement to how they live (even if they kinda just had everything else happen). The thing is, they now have their revival abilities-- but they made a pact with her. They could have made the choice to rewind, take back their deal and find her contentment, but they didn't- couldn't. This is what makes them "beyond saving", at least in the past. However, Dante (the author) described Beatrice as divine, even seeing her as his guide through Heaven. Perhaps, in some act to glorify her, they would have gone back to where it all began. Where they used to work; where the Light was. I don't believe they were a Fixer, since they didn't recognise the term, so this is the best I can think of. But whatever it was allowed them to have access to that place again. Now, Dante isn't a person who believes in 'misery loves company' or anything; they want to live, and they firmly believe in the preservation and continuation of others' lives as well. However, to not have to suffer, to not feel torment, which is so intrinsically tied into life itself, the City must be destroyed. That is why they would have wanted to cause Doomsday- not to make others suffer or to kill them all, but to destroy the very hellscape that the City was. Because even a wasteland was better than the hell they lived in. They lamented themselves, for all that was done upon them, and wanted to break the cycle of the City- by ending everything. They tell others to lament, because of how they live everday. Not by living, but surviving. And for everything that has been done to them, all they hold towards the City and life itself. But now, our Dante has been given a second chance. As a sinner, as a new self. And from what we've seen from the Cantos, their development as the Manager, it's plain to see that they are different now. Now, that they are no longer moulded by their experiences in the City with the Sinners. Instead of wishing to destroy their hell, they wish to make a heaven. After all, the song is called In Hell We Live, Lament for a reason. And there's no better way to describe Dante. Oooor at least that's how I saw this. If you actually bothered to read all this, thanks! I just did way too much research on this to let it go unknown lol.

LETS GOOO!!!~ Alright, Limbus guys, any theories taken from the full song now that it’s released? There’s a lot to be taken from this song now that we got more lyrics to it. Personally, I like the thought of the lyrics “Each Loop we live through” to be connected to how the sinners die and possibility of bringing them back they remember their death. Like the TT2 loop in lobotomy when a manager fails, a loop of trial and error. There may also possibly be a connection with the “identities” in game thing with that line also. “Why’d you curse me with “you’re a natural born genius”? Some real Yi Sang moment right there. The concept of time was already seen in the trailer but I’d like to see any interpretation of it haha.

I just thought of something weird, completely left field. But limbus company seems to have something to do with a train, and the title of this song is "in hell we live lament". Do you think it has anything to do with the express train of hell from lobo corp? You know, the worst thing in existence.
@Flygoniaks
@Flygoniaks 2 жыл бұрын
@@vinneythe14th68 The answer is no. The train is "Mephistopheles," the bus (that looks like a train engine) that the company uses to travel around the City. Express Train to Hell might appear in the game, but it is unlikely that it will have a critical role in the story.
@vinneythe14th68
@vinneythe14th68 2 жыл бұрын
@@Flygoniaks if it were to have a critical role, the only thing I could think of is: maybe the bus "manifests" ego? Which would then turn it into the train, that's such a far fetched idea I know, I just want to try to add to the shitty theory.

HEY GUYS I FOUND SOMETHING It has been a few months since I love this song, but somehow I always kinda skipped the first few sentences of the lyrics. while maybe it is just me thinking, It makes me think about another meaning of the song.... This song is about adam and eve who ate the forbidden fruit and got banned from heaven. "Stole from the tree's hands A regretter's friend -- the forbidden fruit" -This part literally talks about them "taking" the forbidden fruit. "I bite off the skin Chewing on its tender flesh Quaff down its lukewarm pus ~ You became the "me" who you despised We swallowed the time Let us rewind" - this part talks about how they ate it and regretted it, they want to go back in time. "Lament If you wanted me to speak If you wanted me to think If you wanted me to carry on our dreams ~ Lament Why'd you make my voice stutter? Why do truths never matter? Why'd you curse me with "you're a natural born genius"?" - If you replace the word "Lament" with "God", this part talks about how they protest to God about why He punishes them. Didn't the devil who is also God's creation swindle them to eat the fruit? why the humans get punished instead? "I bite off your skin Exposing the angels on your ribs They stare at us "Hello, How may I help you today?" Please, a one-way ticket to heaven ~ Buckled up on velvet seats Sceneries were passing by Not so different from our hell Not so different from our home" - I believe 'i bite off your skin Exposing the angles on your ribs' talks about when they die and they meet angels. they asked to go to heaven and they got it. but during their journey to heaven, they realize that heaven might not be so different than their home (earth) and hell. *And so on well, maybe it is just me 'overreading' the lyrics, but this song is beautiful. from my POV both Mili and Myth&Roid usually have some lyrics that sound strange at first but then you will realize that there is a story inside the lyrics. Damn, I love Mili and Myth&Roid so much....

Well, it's all about the Book of Dante, From Inferno, to Paradiso, passing by Purgatorio. The constant rumination on predestination is as simple as this: If there is destiny, does one have free will? If yes, how would that work. If you want me to make specific choice to go to heaven, and avoid eternal torture, why giving me a choice in first place? This has been the christian dilemma since the religion exist.
