Israel has vowed to retaliate against Hezbollah after blaming the Lebanese group for a rocket attack Sunday in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights in Syria that killed 12 children at a soccer field. Hezbollah has denied responsibility for the attack in the village of Majdal Shams, home to members of the Druze community, an Arab-speaking minority group. Israel claimed the victims were Israeli citizens, though many Druze in the area do not have Israeli citizenship and are in fact Syrian citizens. The deadly attack has further stoked fear of a wider regional war. Palestinian American journalist Rami Khouri says that while the rocket attack looks as though it could have been an accident, there is still risk of more violence. “The danger is always there that an accident could spark a bigger confrontation,” he says. “Militarism isn’t a solution. Militarism is part of the problem.”

There is an Iron Dome battery very close to that village (just over the mountains) and apparently it's not uncommon for those weapons to go off track. There is a video I have seen from March of this year that shows several rockets going off in different directions, any of which could have ended up hitting people in the village.

This was an Israeli Iron Dome missile gone off course, nothing to do with Hizballah or Lebanon. The children who were killed were Arabic speaking Syrian citizens of the Druze faith (which originated as a branch of Shia Islam). They were residents of a Druze village in the Israeli occupied Syrian Golan Heights, but were not Israeli citizens. Most Druze kept their Syrian citizenship following the 1967 occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights. Hizballah would have known he exact location of this village and who lived there. There is no reason for them to attack it. On the other hand, Iron Dome missiles misfire and go off course all the time, so this is obviously a case of Israeli incompetence and they are trying to use as the incident as a pretext to attack Lebanon.
