When the war in Ukraine broke out, former Swedish Army Ranger and combat instructor "Chris" decided to join the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

_”I felt really small.”_ His humility + candidness about his true feelings about going into combat are not only refreshing, but an important reminder of what hundreds-of-thousands of 🇺🇦 civilians turned soldier almost overnight are feeling and facing and without the small comfort of prior training. It’s why it sickens me when ever I hear complaints let alone opposition to providing Ukraine aid.
@pmurnion8 ай бұрын
Pretty sure most young soldiers in every modern war, who are not ftom rich wester countries, felt the same. Pakistanis, Indians, Vietnamese, Egyptians. There's nothing special about the Ukrainian experience, except that they are white Europeans and they are getting phenomenal, lavish support which very few armies receive. Did you support the Palestinians when they stood up to the might of the IDF? Did you support Amy other poor country under attack? Probably not. So how dare you lecture other people who have decided that they fo not want to provide unlimited support to the Ukraine.
@Zedd0z8 ай бұрын
@@pmurnionIts a form a tribalism, people tend to care more about atrocities happening to similar cultures/countries because it feels more relatable. Im not saying that it's right, but it's nothing new. Human nature.
@TheMCmace8 ай бұрын
yep, it's in the nature of humans and i wouldn't even say it's bad because there's nothing someone can do about feeling any way@@Zedd0z

@@pmurnion well, of course if you just collect your thoughts you will recall that until recently the US supported the Afghan army on a much larger scale compared to the strength of the opposing taliban forces. And the country was and still is poor. So yeah, the call on the complainers to stop their whining is quite justified

@@user-xm6zs6ez6i Likewise you Russian troll! We stood firm when you were Soviet and good deal more powerful the you are now while we stood alone. The battle for control over the Baltic has been raging for a millenia and every time have stood firm. We will stand firm in the future. We know who you are and what you can do if you are allowed. You showed your true face in Butcha and with your storm-Z units you showed how high you value human lives. We know, and we reject it! Your threats only strengthens our resolve - and you better remember that we have always punched way above our weight. So the memory goes both ways. Europe will not forget, be so sure, but we might forgive if you change your ways.

A good no-bullshit description of combat. It proves that the better trained you are, that training 'kicks in' under fire and gives you something to focus on. I hope that Chris and his training team got some time and resources to get a programme established for his unit. 🙄🇺🇦🇸🇪
