She retired as a highly acclaimed officer in public health and mass media. However, I never demanded gifts n toys from her. I am a 20 year veteran of the US Air Force ... I did two tours (27 months) in Vietnam from 1970-73, and I disagree with your statement 100%! If a father can be deployed, why not the mother? She signed up the same way I did, gets paid the same amount of money, and has the same chances for advancement that I do. If you, as a mother, feel this way, then you need to get out of the service and find something else to do. Obviously, you are entitled to your opinion, I just don't agree with you.

The women all volunteered for military duty. Nobody told mothers who joined that they wouldn't go into combat. They were told the opposite. Nobody told the women who didn't have children that they would be exempted from combat once they got pregnant and become mothers. They were told the opposite. Women who entered as officers and women who joined as enlisted personnel were told more than once before they signed their names and gave their sacred oaths that they could be called into combat at any time, children or not. Women who do not like that equality should not join the military. We are all equal -- we're soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marines.
